"OCCUPY WALL STREET"

I think that dynamic has causes. The first being the fact that Wall Street has completely co-opted the federal government. Wall Street investors may not be intentionally waging class warfare on the rest of society, but they have removed the means by which the citizenry can protect itself from Wall Street maleficence. When people can not convince the government to regulate Wall Street because nearly every member of both parties is financially beholden to them, it's going to create an adversarial sentiment. This is compounded by pundits and politicians who are in fact waging a PR war against the poor. So while it's true that there is no organization to the class conflicts that are occurring, the effects of formal class warfare are being felt. To paraphrase Warren Buffet, there was a class war, and the middle class lost.
People say that but they don't vote like this. How many people on GAF alone support the government subsidizing green tech by giving green companies credits, breaks, loans, grants etc etc etc. Even after disasters like Solyndra how many will still vote for things like that and not blink. How many people supported Obamacare, that mandates you buy coverage?

How many Americans will vote for the next "home ownership" deduction or break. the next break for automobile companies(as long as they are american). It's hard to buy that Americans are against wall street when they vote hand over fist, on a state and federal level for corporate welfare all the damn time.

We don't vote for things like that. We vote for politicians. Both parties are guilty of such handouts (even though you clearly want to blame the left for all of it) and voting for a third party might make you feel good, but they aren't going to win.

Certainly not all of the blame- just a majority of the blame. ;)

Uhh yes we do. Citizens vote directly for politicians that run on giving out corporate Welfare. Case in point: Obama and green tech. These politicians don't hide their corporate welfare. They advertise it.

Or we vote for propositions for construction projects and infrastructure done by private companies. Case in point CA high speed rail. New Jersey tunnel into New york. Boston the big dig project. Private sector companies worked on all of them with the bill being mainly carried by state and federal dollars.

There's a difference between government subsidies and full on corruption. You seem to be conflating all government stimulus of the private sector with corrupt politicians taking money from investors in exchange for removing regulation.

how thick is the line and really what is the difference? Is it corporate welfare or not? Is it our money being wasted or not?

Also, this is not true. 95% of the time the public has no clue about it.

Allowing companies to legally commit crimes by changing the law, only because they donated money to your campaign, is quite a bit different then giving money to corporations to build solar panels. The latter results (hopefully) in services being created for the public, the former resulted in a crime wave that triggered the collapse of the world economy. I understand where you're coming from, but you seem to be underplaying the level of crime that occurred on Wall Street. The article I posted earlier would be a good starting place:

some of you sure are trying damn hard to make it seem like you're fine with people fucking you over. someone steals 50$ from you and you'd probably go apeshit, companies and politicians screw you a hell of a lot harder and all of a sudden you're fine with it?

cats and dogs! living together! that's the part I've been stuck on and still don't fully understand. how people can fuck up their jobs, have other people clean it up for them, and then keep the job and get a raise. that's the thing. :(

edit: kame-sennin says it a lot better than I do.

Was this new Taibbi article posted? Nice to know he's gonna check it out and write something about it. http://www.rollingstone.com/politic...wall-street-drawing-the-battle-lines-20110927

For other people who are entertained by these fools, here's an embarrassing youtube vid of Cornel West's Wall Street Chant... wheres the mace when you need it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H31XN8zgXlI

I just heard on Democracy Now that the police barred the protesters from using a PA system, so that's why they came up with that "human microphone" chanting system. The restrictions on public protests are really getting out of hand.

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 27: Over 700 hundred Continental and United pilots, joined by additional pilots from other Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) carriers, demonstrate in front of Wall Street on September 27, 2011 in New York City. The pilots want to draw attention to the lack of progress on negotiations of the pilots' joint collective bargaining agreement ahead of the one-year anniversary of the corporate merger close date of United and Continental airlines.

You're such a weirdo, I can't believe you are discussing the merits of a protest based on how they dress and what stock paper they use for signs.

Doesn't matter if they are associated with them or not the protesting in general is growing and for all you know the other protest could have lead way for this one.Even if not man it's just more protesting cause alot of people want change.Interesting seeing this I wonder if this will trigger more groups to come out who knows altogether this is all interesting to watch.

These squatters could a little from history.

This was tied closely to a specific date from a year ago. If the squatters weren't here I think it's reasonable to assume this would have still occurred.

I'm sure this has been brought up, but CNN did a little piece on the occupy wall street clowns. The best part was when they spoke to one of the organizers and pointed uot that it was particularly ironic that she was there protesting big corporations when she herself brought her macbook with her.

Definitely a c-word if i ever saw one. God bless America.

You're so bitter that every single post you have made in this thread contains a grammar/spelling mistake, including the one I have quoted. I know it's difficult to type with gritted teeth and clenched fists.

Oh no, I've made a grammar mistake, whatever shall I do. Please travis come and gently caress me while I cry into your chest because you have discovered that I have shitty grammar/spelling online. lol

You've freaked out so many times in this thread it's been hilarious. It drives you nuts that others besides me don't give a rats ass about these squatters and their pathetic attempt at a protest.

Yeah but they're union people. Unions suck! They should be happy to have a job.

Not really a good fit, at least with me. Most I ever said about Unions was I didn't like mandatory membership for a grocery store in high school.

Uh, everyone being a union members is kind of crucial to collective bargaining - if scabs can undercut the union, there's no reason for an employer to collectively bargain.

Aren't you angry at these guys for driving up your airline ticket prices? I bet some of them even have iPhones, the hypocrites!

I know, I know, but it still bothers me that a person can't choose themselves.

Nope, I'd blame gas increases more than their contract.

I bet some of them even have iPhones, the hypocrites!
I don't think any of those guys have problems with money and capitalism or desiring more.

Just for clarity, you're in support of the idea that people should be allowed to make their own choices about their futures?
