So I've gone full retard and picked up a brand new Quest Pro as the successor to my failing CV1 Rift. I'm guessing these things weren't as popular as Meta hoped, since they're now *half* the original retail price if you shop around. Seemed like a better deal to me than going for the older Quest 2, and it has the added benefit of looking similar enough to the Rift that I might be able to fool my wife into thinking it's the same headset. I'll probably be using it wired, I have one of their outrageously expensive USB cables and the full light blocker on the way.
Tried it out via Air Link and it looks completely amazing. Way better than I was expecting. I knew there'd be a jump in resolution, but not to the point where it's actually a viable replacement for a monitor. This is like HD VR - I can read text in it and there's no tilting the headset to find the tiny sweet spot, the entire field of view is crisp. Sound is nowhere near as good as the Rift, though. I wish it had an attachment point for the Rift speakers.
It's not massively comfortable either. The visor just hangs in front of your face, so it needs to be clamped down pretty tight to stop it wobbling, and that means pain and a big old red imprint on my forehead. I've ordered a velcro strap that's meant to divert a bit of the weight to the top of the head. Are there any good softer replacements for the pleather pad at the front?
Yeah, but Quest 3 is not out yet and I bet they make it bright white like the others, which I don’t really like. Plus the better straps (and controllers?) seem to be extra with the main Quest headsets.I think the safe bet is Quest 3. Same resolution, more powerful processor than Quest Pro, super small size for around $500. I do think the Quest pro is a solid PCVR headset though.
I'm not sure if this will help at all, but here is a list of all the things that were/are cross buy and you should be able to download for free from the quest store. It's crazy beatsaber isn't one.One annoying thing I noticed is that almost all my purchases from the Rift are only available in Quest when it’s linked to the PC. For example in standalone mode it agrees that I’ve bought a few Beat Saber music packs but not the actual game, which I’d have to buy again to play unplugged. I appreciate it’s a new “generation” of headset but it’s still not the most consumer friendly approach. I was thinking of taking this for some fun with the family over Easter, but I won’t now because I don’t own any games for it.
It also works in both directions, which is nice when I realized I could download the PC versions of the Vader games since I have them on Quest, and play through it with more enhanced visuals.I'm not sure if this will help at all, but here is a list of all the things that were/are cross buy and you should be able to download for free from the quest store. The Beat Saber DLC is, though, just not the game itself.I'm not sure if this will help at all, but here is a list of all the things that were/are cross buy and you should be able to download for free from the quest store. It's crazy beatsaber isn't one.

Thanks, that's really useful. Turns out I do have access to Robo Recall and Keep Talking, they just weren't showing in my Quest purchase list. Weirdly, Lone Echo II shows up there, even though it can't be installed on the headset. There's nothing else in my list bar the Beat Saber DLCs.I'm not sure if this will help at all, but here is a list of all the things that were/are cross buy and you should be able to download for free from the quest store. Haven't had time/mood to twitter crawl as much the last couple of days but here's some stuff.
Meh, I hope their Aliens game bombs.
It's updated on Quest so, no. They probably just can't bother if their games sold the least on PC. It seems it's too much to have some devs optimize their processes with OpenXR and whatever engines/apis and what not so they can provide one version for all platforms like every modern game, no, we gotta go to the ol too-many-different-specs crap. Oh well, it's okay, The Thrill of the Fight was the less fancy but better boxing game and we'll hopefully be seeing the sequel soon as the previously solo dev has been working on it with Halfbrick Studios for some time now. Fingers crossed.Hope this isn't a Sony exclusivity deal. Really can't afford to have the VR market segmented.
Interesting, they'll probably be unhappy with the psvr2 sales if they arn't happy with the pcvr ones. Only a few of all the oculus/pcvr ports are going to do well on psvr2 just because of the sheer amount they are releasing so close to each other with such a small market it currently has. Some are probably going to rerelease the psvr2 version on quest 3 aswell, stuff like the updated starwars game or walking dead 2 one should work fine with the extra juice in the quest 3 soc without much effort and is probably why some of those updates are not as flashy as they could be.It's updated on Quest so, no. Pretty sure greenhell is supposed to be getting a psvr2 port. Would expect to see breachers get ported aswell, although that's pure speculation.Too many great looking releases for a day again (I think I'm finally done editing the above post, just about ran out of embeds anyway so anything more will have to get a new reply - or just a link if it's not big enough). I'm sure some of this stuff will appear on PSVR2 if that will make more folks care.
It really is, When I saw quest 2 trailer I thought they must have been using the pc version. It didn't look too far behind R6 siege graphically once inside. Some pretty solid work there considering what they have to work with.the Quest 2 port is punching above its weight and runs fantastic.
I think Quest 2 is great for a PC VR setup. If you get something like the index, you're stuck with a much more complicated set of wires and pieces every time you want to play. With the Quest, it's at most 1 wire (I prefer wireless mode though) and it does all its own scanning of the area from there, no need for extra boxes and cameras and all that complication.I've never used a VR in my life. I watched Jerma play Hitman 3 in VR and now it has my full attention. I am thinking of getting a Quest 2 as they seem to be incredible value? I am looking to play Hitman 3, Skyrim, and probably Dirt Rally 2 with my VR. I have a pretty good gaming PC which I would hardwire to. Ryzen whatever and a 3080Ti. Should I be looking elsewhere? I don't want to spend a shit ton of money but would entertain a Index if it's really worth the extra.
That sounds more appealing to me. I only worry about tracking with the Quest 2- I have read that the tracking can get spotty when you put you arms down to your side. Is this something you find to be troublesome? Would those Pro controllers do the trick as they track themselves?I think Quest 2 is great for a PC VR setup. I've never really had trouble with the tracking on mine at all, unless I have a bright window open with sunlight which can confuse the camera in some rare cases. A quest pro would probably be a better option than the index at the moment if you really wanted to get in right now. I think if you could wait another month or 2 to see what the quest 3 brings would be the wise move. If you want in now and don't want to spend index/pro amounts the pico 4 and the quest 2 are pretty much your options.I've never used a VR in my life. Good to know. I may just grab a kit on Amazon and see how it goes.I've never really had trouble with the tracking on mine at all, unless I have a bright window open with sunlight which can confuse the camera in some rare cases. But I don't know about how the Pro controllers compare.
I wonder how much effort it will take for him to update it for ue5 once that starts to transition into releases and what kind of hardware will be needed to make it viable.Even with just 3DOF motion controls Praydog's VR injector is transformative for gameplay in Unreal Engine 4+ games. This kinda seems somewhere between Wii Red Steel 2/COD/Metroid Prime 3 type stuff and true VR FPS. Still damn immersing and fun with the headtracking and everything on top.
