Just bought the Quest 3. The audio (both the speakers and the awkwardly located headphone jack) is extremely mediocre and also, this is quite possibly the most uncomfortable VR headset I've ever tried. Despite those two things however, it's probably the best headset I've used as I loved the Rift S and this is just a mega improved version of that headset. I was worried about the visuals because it doesn't have displayport but trying out a few high end games to compare it to the Reverb G2, it basically is a toss up while having way better controllers, tracking, interface, etc.

Slightly annoyed that my $500 purchase turned into an almost $700 one because I felt like I had to buy a new head pad to make the horrible headstraps not dig into my skull, buy both Quest Game Optimizer and Virtual Desktop and buy the official $80 link cable which bafflingly isn't included with the headset purchase unlike literally every other VR headset.

But playing Batman last night made all my gripes go away. The game looks amazing and feels incredible to play and actually feels like a system seller. If Quest 3 had the Reverb G2/Valve Index audio, it would be the GOAT VR headset.
New head strap is unfortunately necessary, but you don't need the official link cable, any high speed USB-C cable will work fine, I bouyght one for like $15 on Amazon. You also don't really need Virtual Desktop as there is now an official Steam Link app and it can work wirelessly.

I think the audio is fine myself.

tried the pcvr metro game last night. Kinda bummed out. My experience so far is incredibly mid. The graphics are ver inconsistent. Most textures are confusingly bad. The enemies don’t have proper shadows. The interactive elements are second tier and I hear it’s all front loaded.

Also I’m really considering holding off on games like this and Batman where black levels matter. The next quest HAS to have oled panels. The grey shadows look awful. I’ll play some more tonight but honestly I’m a little more interested in modding Skyrim vr.

For Batman, I suggest turning on the experimental contrast and then accessibility settings/contrast. Even having PSVR2 its not a big deal to me really, but it closes the gap. If you have quest optimizer, you'll really see a where the lenses excel. Even with Batman I was able to really push it.

Played more metro. Now that expectations are tempered a titch I’m really enjoying my play through so far. The stealth gameplay against humans is fun and I find myself replaying if I don’t do it “correctly” always a good sign. The monster fights are tense and they do a lot of things I love. For example the game doesn’t cheat with the lurkers, they don’t teleport and you can track what they are doing by sound accurately. Overall it’s getting better as I go along. Some other minor gripes

1. The charger should have been in a quick grab spot, left hand somewhere and put the crank on the right side so it’s an easy single action. Rather than left hand, right hand grab it, then drop your backpack to crank with left, it’s a little silly.

2. Textures are so inconsistent, need an hd texture pack

3. The gun sounds are all good but the 50 cal turret sounds weak af. And it’s the first thing you fire in the game, not a good first impression.

3. I wish there was more guns and blood where you shoot humans and animals. Feels a little empty with the animations instead of ragdolls

4. More puzzles. Puzzles in vr are the best. I want more

I enjoy the game, but in mixed reality mode I can only die by actually letting myself go. Until I realized how to actually complete the mode I could go on endlessly it seemed. It also would be nice if it had more than the three tables to represent your furniture, especially for common elements such as a couch or bed. Still one of my favorite mixed reality games on the platform; and the main game is fun also. Not sure what upgrades lie ahead for the weapons, but unlocking the next level for each weapon adds another layer to replayability in either mode.

That half priced Half Life:Alyx made my next game purchase decision rather simple (and free Half-Life 2/VR mod combo to boot).

I know this isn't precisely of great interest to anyone, but I just want to mention how great the quest 3/3s controller is. I was just browsing my youtube history in virtual desktop and I just noticed, I've been doing this all the time with this controller because it's so intuitive without giving it a second thought: The speed of your scrolling is tied to how strong you flick the stick.

This sounds benign, it somewhat actually is, but holy shit this is such a much better scrolling experience than with a mouse or even touch display. You can quickly scroll through a hundred videos and then start scrolling slower when you notice something interesting. This is honestly revolutionizing scrolling itself, since you're doing it all in one kinda "fluent" motion. It's different, and much more comfortable, than simply going slower on the mouse wheel. difficult to explain fully.

I'm kinda high but you can't say I don't have a point

I'm so tempted to get one. What got you across the line? Please help me convince myself I need one :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I've had (PC) VR before, it's as amazing as folks say (without meaning flat games are to die, just as 2D games weren't killed by 3D) I just sold it/worked too much for a few years so jumping back in now cos 3S is simply great value and I've missed a ton of cool stuff I've been posting about since.

I suppose the first newer games I'll be playing are Batman, Asgard's Wrath II and other such big stuff (I missed Vertigo 2 and RE4 too) but I will go back to replayable staples like Pistol Whip and VTOL VR as well as fan VR mods like Doom 3, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Prey, Half-Life 1 & 2 etc.

I figure I'll be mostly playing stand alone and the low end stuff my PC can do and when Quest 3 is finally starting to go obsolete spec wise I'll hopefully have a PC upgrade (which needs a lot more than what 3S cost now) to continue with PC VR at that point as most games are multiplatform too.

Not sure if you've heard others say it, but AW2 is very long and the first 6 hours are basically a tutorial. The next 74 hours is the main game lol. Lots of Zelda style head scratching puzzles too.

Wait, 388 is the usual price here? Shit... I guess I have to buy it now too then.
No, here as in where I live, Greece, it's not officially sold and stores that bring it charge well over ~400 and reduced it to ~388 recently, maybe for Black Friday period, Idk, but I bought it from one of the Amazon shops (I always compare with Hagglezon) that ship here for the normal price of 330 eur.

Sadly they didn't get a cool Black Friday offer in Europe like Amazon US with $75 store credit.

I'm not gonna post the showcase stuff individually here but make sure you watch them for cool newly announced stuff like a Vertigo 2 DLC campaign, Path of Fury and a limited time free-to-own game launch, Cues. Oh yeah, VR is so fucking dead there's so much shit even I cba to post it all :lollipop_fearful:

I watched the showcase earlier today. Lots of stuff I'm not interested in, sprinkled with a few that stood out. It did make me feel justified in getting a VR capable PC. There is so much software out, that I have trouble deciding what to try next.

So many games coming out it’s amazing.
yeah I've been too busy for weeks to play any VR, but scrolling through the posts I missed... there are so many quality games out there now.

I remember several years ago how I'd often download fairly poor VR games just because there wasn't much else, and seeing anything at all new in VR was good enough for me even when the experience was broken or short

I downloaded X8 just for the Contra collab. I hope I can play it solo. I can't handle speaking with people. I once entered VRChat, someone came up to greet me and I ALT+F4'ed outta there with the quickness. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Well that's great, just as I order my Quest 3S, now we're getting incoming Google OS VR sets with Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 which claims 15% higher GPU and 20% higher CPU frequencies among other improvements to Meta's currently used XR2. Well, it's probably powering higher resolution and what not which may mean performance isn't much greater and it will probably also be a while for them to get most (non exclusive) games and such. Oh well. I imagine Samsung's at least will also be more expensive/more premium. Fingers crossed I don't feel screwed over any time soon, lol.
