I think the amusing thing here is that you are under the impression that "AAA" by whatever definition of the term, means good VR content. That is not what is compelling about VR. I don't doubt that they will be good experiences, but I'd bet smaller devs will be producing better content and in a few years you'll define them as "AAA"So, I can't be a fan of both Sony and OR? I just dropped 370 bones on the DK2 and planning on upgrading my video card along with planning on getting the Morpheus.
You're the one who's seeming to be threatened by Sony for some reason. If I were you, I'd be more worried about MS buying OR outright.

....sorry I fucking hate that term
Do the OLEDs they're using degrade in color quality over time like other OLEDs?
I would jump on the 780 ti if I know it can handle the consumer version of OR.

Well, nobody even knows what the final specs of the consumer version will be.
All I can say is, it will handle DK2 just fine.

Definitely, there's so much good stuff out there. I have to wonder if VR would be enjoyable for longer play sessions. Especially with highly stressful or horror style experiences, perhaps shorter issmaller devs will be the first out with interesting ideas, as we've sort of been seeing. a fully fledged AAA VR exclusive is going to take a lot of time and investment. smaller experiences are really going to bring the variety, on both the Rift AND Morpheus. I mean, look at the shark thing sony are showing off. Sell that for $10 or whatever and I'd buy it.
I'm sure small teams will be doing great stuff, but I also want big budget, hundred+ man team, high production value VR content. Having Sony in the market increases the chance of that happening because it increases the potential install base. So I'm glad they are in, even if I never buy the Sony product.
I was just trying to argue that any significant investment in VR development by a top publisher will only really be done by Sony since they have eggs in the basket. I just don't get why people are against Sony getting in on VR. I support both companies. I want both companies to succeed.
Well, some gaffers are saying 1440p and my jaw is just dropping on how much power that will require.
Was wondering, could someone gather the list of gaffers who bought the DK2 and what their current rig is composed of and if they plan to upgrade.

For sure, I just don't think AAA is a requirement for success of a platform like VR
I want to order it but I was shocked by the VAT and Shipping.
350$ for Oculus
55$ shipping
85$ VAT
Makes a total of $490 dollars to ship it to me, and for 350 dollars i've would buy it (and a bit extra for shipping) but 490 dollars is a bit to much for a extra "toy"
I ordered one. What have I done?![]()
Already released full games with native support:
- Half Life 2
- TF2
- Strike Suit Zero
- Hawken
- War Thunder
- iRacing
Until DK2 ships it should be a few more.
The Oculus API is already designed for supporting multiple HW models from the start, so old software should be compatible with newer HW and the other way around. Stuff developed for DK1 will have to be updated for positional tracking though.
Don't forget Euro Truck Simulator 2:

Just ordered. About when should I be expecting it to ship?
I don't want to start any drama but have the specs of this been compared with the Morph spec-wise? If they are comparable, they can cross-develop easily, and live off each other.

Real Palmer confirmation about higher res in CK1
So does the Doom 3 BFG version that's on Steam have full Rift support right now?

They said first come first served and rumor is the site started taking orders around 8:15 AM PDT.
Now it depends on the amount they plan on having. I am fairly certain I am in the first batch at 8:29 because a bunch of people at the earliest got screwed and had to reorder. But I got an order number and confirmation so keeping hopeful. They all could have gone in 5 minutes for all we know.

Wait they're not cutting it off at a certain number are they? I would assume people would just get shuffled to the next batch like during the kick starter.
i7 2600k
GTX 570
8 GB RAM
I was waiting for 20 nm for a full upgrade but now I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

If I were them I would ASAP. Add some driver hackery in conjunction with support in the major middleware to make it work. SLIVR and CrossVR. I can already see it.
The people early adopting VR are the same people who'll spend too much money on your HW![]()
The problem is real, but it's mostly be blown out of proportion.
I used to run a GTX 690 on my work machine, and I did not notice any micro-stutter on any Rift demos. Granted the performance was so high that I was likely still above 60FPS at all times, even with the stutter. I did end up switching it out for a GTX 680 due to compatibility issues, so I do agree that single GPU is a safer option.
However, I also run GTX 470s in SLI at home, and I haven't had any complaints. I think the SLI support has become a lot better than what it used to be a few years ago. That said, I do see small stutters from time to time, but it's not enough to be a show stopper.
So the best advice if you are buying a video card is to get the most expensive single GPU card you can afford. However, if you are looking for a cheap upgrade, and your board supports dual-cards, then jumping on SLI/Crossfire is not a death wish.
I have SLI GTX 670s. I run everything on max settings and have never experienced this "micro stutter". I also hit 60fps on pretty much everything apart from Crysis 3. I've had some slight pauses with high memory texture loading (skyrim mods) but that's about all.
When you use SLI with a clone display setting (as I did with my rift) it says it may not function at 100% or whatever. I never had any issues which I couldn't put down to sloppy demo programming.
Ah jesus... $550 AUD once it accounts for shipping and taxes.
But why the fuck is it charging my taxes when I'm in Australia? I'm only charged on GST once imports reaches $1000... fishy as fuck.
I'd hazard a guess the vast majority of the gaffer demographic buying a DK2 have plans to upgrade to a 860Ti, 870, or 880. People been waiting for that a long ass time for Maxwell at this point.
