Craig is just the right age for the Bond character.

Bond is a RETIRED Navy Captain, that itself doesn't lend him to being young.

HEY! that's the dude from Munich!

He was awesome in that movie - I have faith in this new bond - like him better than Brosnan, anyways (he was too mich of a pretty boy)

Not to mention Layer Cake which was freakin' awesome. Having been burned savagely by the latest Zorro movie I'm a bit wary of the director, but considering his generally superior resume overall I'm hoping he gets it together for the new flick.

FnordChan, not entirely sold by the trailer

I think Craig will be a great Bond. However, my new theory is that even-numbered Bond actors are stalking horses, who end up being sacrificed so that the producers can get the Bond actor they really want--because intractable fans are going to get angry anyway, no matter who's picked, right?

Think about it:

George Lazenby lasted one movie because the fans revolted; the result was Connery coming back, followed by Roger Moore who "appeased the fans" and stuck around for how many movies? Six, seven?

Timothy Dalton lasted two movies because the fans revolted (not handsome enough; too human; brought back the hard edge to the Bond character--this all sounds familiar, doesn't it?); the result was Pierce Brosnan, who was a fan favorite (due to Remington Steele) and on the short list for The Living Daylights anyway.

Prediction: Craig will be great, but will last one or two movies at most--the replacement will be a previously shortlisted actor like Clive Owen. Fans will tell themselves they're happy afterward--"at least it's not that crap Daniel Craig again", etc.

Thats a theory thats been thrown around a lot, and, I really cant argue with you, as history has shown it to be correct. All I will add is that although I wanted Owen for Casino Royale, I sure as hell wouldnt want him 2-3 movies down the road. He'd be 50 by that time.

And Moore did 7 movies, threatening to quit the role each time to get a bigger paycheck. Connery did 5 and quit, then came back for an enormous payday (which he gave away to charity) once more. Then he did another, unofficial Bond remake of Thunderball some years later.

Awesome! Asshole Dick-face Bond is where its at. And I haven't read Casino Royale in a long time but I think the underslept eyes are in context for the Casino scene if I remember correctly.

Also I now prefer French trailers.

I really hope they've left in the
torture scene
. And if so, I wonder how far they'll really go with it. I doubt very much they'd actually have the
rug beater *ouch*
scene in there. Id would ballsy if they did though, and Id applaud it.

The director mentioned a while back it is in.

I actually laughed when I saw that image of Connery on the previous page :D No-one else can match that for sheer coolness. But as long as Craig has the same swagger and demeanour I'm a happy film-goer. I buy my ticket to see the Bond persona and it looks like we're going to get it in bucketloads. :)

Yeah I think Casino Royale was written before Dr. No. Don't take my word for it though, long time since I've been a Bond fanatic.

The appeal of James bond is he can just as easily sex up the ladies while blowing shit up, all the while by not breaking a sweat and not taking anything seriously.

Sorry, but I'm tired of that stupid shit. I want a James Bond movie that treats as if I wasn't a retarded buttmonkey.

Craig looks great. I really like the fight choreography as well, it's really rough and loose, he fights like an amateur would. It's nice to have a change of pace from all this clean cut choreopgraphy. It's looking good.:)

awww, the black and white bit had me all excited for a new edgy Bond but then it turned into another action spaz out :-/

I was hoping for something different.

Was REALLY digging the noir vibes from the first half, then BAM! -- cheesy gun POV effect, high budget nothingness, and Craig in a very small speedo -- the shit hit the fan.

I know its Bond, but it just looks too cheesy and by-the-numbers for me. It's a shame, cuz the screenplay was actually pretty good =(

That stupid shit is the core of the character. He's a suave killer. It's easy to over-do that, and that's pretty much all it's been since Goldfinger, but completely removing the suaveness from Bond isn't the answer.

P.S. I'm not saying Craig won't act suave.

so it's like, we still have Judi Dench as M, but a new Bond. so is this still before all the other movies as far as time line goes, or does it stand on its own?

I believe it's before the other ones, since this one's about him starting out as an agent. I don't think there's anything else before that, but I'm no fanatic.

Think of the Bond movies like the Legend of Zelda. He's not supposed to be Sean Connery, and he's not supposed to be a new agent who's taken the name "James Bond".

I don't know... from what I've read, M isn't really the same character in this movie...

The trailer looks great (first Bond movie I'm looking forward to seeing since Goldeneye), but I'm not really sure Craig looks the part. I'm sure I'll get used to it though.

I would like to thank the Bourne Identity and Batman Begins for collaberating their efforts into making this film a reality.
Does this mean the fight scenes are going to be blurfests?

Its not a prequel, as its set in modern days. But its also not a sequel, as theyre doing Casion Royale, the first novel. Its a reboot, like Batman Begins was.

And to those complaining that it looks like nothing but an action fest, pay closer attention. Youll notice that all the action appears to be from one or two scenes tops. Basically, I think its just a cleverly edited trailer giving off the mucho action vibes, to hook the blockbuster summer movie type fans. I do feel the actual film will be much more of a talkie than the teaser would lead us to believe. If its a faithful adaptation, then there really wont be too much action. Hell, one could say the baccarat game is the major set piece of the story.

xactly

from what I've observed thus far (from both internet and footage), there is only like 2 - 3 action setpieces in the entire film

they're just editing it kinetic-like to entice your average movie goer who needs SOMETHING happening or exploding every 10 minutes......

Craig will be an excellent Bond. Unfortunately his run will be short, in concordance with the even Bond theory :(

You guys are forgetting that this is essentially a sort of prequel to the whole Bond universe, and so perhaps Bond hasn't learned to be all classy and shit yet.

I really need to get started on reading the books.

Have you read any of the Fleming novels? Bond is much less suave and much more rugged in those. Craig fits that bill.

Terrible, dude looks like an optometrist in a tux.

I didn't know optometrists looked a certain way.

I'm excited for this movie, though. At first I thought Daniel Craig was an odd choice for bond but from the pics and trailer it looks like he kicks ass.
