LET'S GO, NETS!!!! :D
Normally this would mean the kiss of death for the nets in the playoffs, but since the nets losing to the heat is a foregone conclusion it really doesn't matter that much I guess. Of course taking into account the power of the konex curse, a freak plane crash isn't beyond the realm of possibility now. Poor vince, you're doomed bruh :(

Ok done. I had picked the Pacers to upset Boston and Detroit AND Miami.

...but then I remembered Stern and his cronies fucking over the Pacers every year in the playoffs. Sorry, Reggie!

Washington over Chicago
Indiana over Boston
Sacramento over Seattle
Detroit over Miami
San Antonio over Phoenix
Detroit over San Antonio

Those are the upsets I have, everything else is by the seed.

That's why Barry said he told the Rockets' media relations department to follow McGrady everywhere this week.
:lol Too funny not to bring over to the new thread. My picks:

Phoenix vs Memphis
Captain Canada vs the legacy of Bryant Reeves? Either way I win, but Nash's dedication to ignoring anything that even looks like defense means that the Grizz can pull out at least two wins against the WC leaders. Can Fratello and co. pull it out long-term? I don't know. PHX in 7

San Antonio vs Denver
Bruce Bowen is a dirty snake motherfucker. Kenyon Martin is a thug nigga who (I'm positive) carries a gun in his waistband while on the court. DEN in 6

Sacramento vs Seattle
Rashard Lewis creates matchup problems, Peja is injured....but the Sonics sputtered and wheezed into the playoffs and that's the last thing you want this time of year. While the term "BJ" always refers to something delicious, instead of a sloppy hummer from J'Lo, this BJ stands Bobby Jackson making his triumphant return to the purple and white. Victory and a move to the next round. SAC in 7

Dallas vs Houston
Avery Johnson benched Dirk for not playing defense. Defense wins championships. Yao has the lungs of a baby girl and T-Mac's gonna say something dumb about moving to the 2nd round....before tip off of Game #1. Sorry DM, but this isn't the year, Mike James or no Mike James. DAL in 5

Miami vs New Jersey
Where's Shaq? Where's Shaq? Wade has shown a disturbing tendency to force up some shots lately, he's going to have to curb that shit and quick. Vince continues to make all Canadians outside of Toronto happy by putting up crazy points. Richard Jefferson back in the mix? Shaquille out? Upset time, friends. NJ in 6

Detroit vs Philadelphia
AI has had an MVP season. Chris Weber is soft as melted butter. Detroit is a shitty town and their players want to get this postseason over with ASAP so they can go celebrate in their tax-free Florida enclaves. DET in 4

Boston vs Indiana
Ricky Davis is clinically insane. Big Wiggle ('Toine) vs Big Dagger (Miller). Judging from that pic up top, Reggie and his sister are extremely close and as schoolkids across the nation are acutely aware, "Incest is best!" IND in 6

Chicago vs Washington
Easily the toughest matchup to call. The Bulls rely on Curry more than most people think, his absence is going to hurt. A lot. Then again, Gordon is the reincarnation of Superman and I have absolutely no confidence in Washington's game outside of the Big 3. Eddie Jordan has the mental chops to put a hurting on Chicago, but will his personnel pull through? I have no bloody idea. Um...JORDAN in 7

When Jeff Van Gundy gathered his players Tuesday morning, he pushed the pause button on the usual conversation.

"I wanted them to take a moment and understand they were part of something that doesn't happen often in the NBA," he said. "This is a team of givers, not takers. This is a team that bought into the idea of team.

"They bought in completely. I want them to understand this has been something special.

"If you look at our guys, a lot of them weren't even in a rotation on their teams last season. McGrady was on a 21-win team. What adds up? It's that saying, 'The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.' That's what chemistry does for you. That's why it's important."

You probably don't recognize this Jeff Van Gundy. You're used to that dour guy, the one who focuses on the negatives.

That's the face he wants you to see. His players don't see that Jeff Van Gundy as much as you might think. They see the guy who prepares them better than they've ever been prepared before.

"He works harder than any coach I've ever played for," Wesley said. "He can expect more out of us because he gives us so much more himself."

He's more accessible than people know. He encourages locker-room celebrations, and former players still look him up on the road.

And this week, his players saw a guy who wanted them to know how proud he was.

"I don't know how much we have left in the tank for the playoffs," he said. "Sometimes we won this season because we were just more ready than the other team. Our guys were more professional. They may not have felt good, they may have been beat up, but they just dug it out.

"They've put in the preparation for a long time now. When we were 6-11 and then 16-17, when we were scratching and clawing to get to .500, our guys were putting the work in. All of a sudden you look up and it's clicking.

That's pretty special. That doesn't happen much.

"We had three stretches where we played four games in five nights. We won the fourth game all three times. Our guys were old and hurting and couldn't move. That's when their professionalism came through.

"Now we've got an unbelievable opportunity. Some of these guys may never have one like this again. And it's special."

He'll begin fretting about the series with the Mavericks this morning. He'll worry about slowing down Dirk Nowitzki and getting his guys to run with Jason Terry and Josh Howard.

He has no idea how it'll work out. The Rockets aren't supposed to win this series, but at one point this season, they wouldn't have been a good bet to even make the playoffs.

Now things look different.

"That doesn't mean we're going to win 16 in the playoffs," Van Gundy said. "But I know this. When we go to Dallas and walk out on the floor, we're going to do it as hard and as well as we can. I'm certain of that."

Win it for Gundy, guys!

:lol Priceless...and probably true.

I signed up, but I'm waiting till Friday night/Saturday morning to see how the playoff rosters look. C-Webb I think was placed on the injured list, which probably increases the Sixers' chances of winning the series. :lol

Shaq is a gametime decision for Sunday's game...apparantely he can't bend his thigh at the moment. I'm telling ya, the Heat are ripe for the picking. They're not beating Detroit anyhow unless they sweep the first two rounds, and I just don't see that happening. In fact I'm not seeing much in the way of sweeps anywhere...there isn't a soft touch in the playoffs that I can see. Denver beating San An wouldn't even be an upset to me, just because of how the Nuggets have rolled into the playoffs (what's their streak like, 23-4?). Same with the Nets...think they've won 16 of their last 20, basically playing playoff ball for six weeks to get to this point. Stuff like that you can't overlook, particularly when Vince is dropping 25 footers anytime he wants.

Of course a week from now we might see the top seeds blowing the bottom seeds the fuck out, making this post look like shit. :lol But I really don't see it.

goddamit, Griese!
my ben gordon avatar has brought them luck for the past 5 months....let it continue to do so. GO BULLS.

That's probably true - I was going off reports from yesterday afternoon stating that he was still doubtful. And we all know how accurate Canadian sportscasters are on all things basketball :p

If he's recovered from that Jermaine O'Neal knee to the thigh, NJ is in deep shit. They have *nobody* to counter him.

Great news for the Spurs. After a long stay in the IL, Devin Brown has been included in the playoff roster. Hopefully he will be ready to contribute.

The best team in the NBA is getting healthy once again.
