Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Ohhhh, I get what's going on. They're putting shit nobody wants to buy on VC so the storage issue might not be as apparent to some people who might otherwise be buying WiiWare and VC games on a fairly regular basis.

VERY CLEVER NINTENDO! Almost as clever as the invention of external hard-drives!

I have to admit that despite the shittiness of titles this week, at least we got more than one VC game. I would have totally expected Dig Dug to be the sole title. If Nintendo can at least deliver two VC games per week then we at least have a chance to get some good stuff (Dracula X).

Don't. KNowing how ass-backwards Ninty is, there is a lot of truth in his statements. So much that it is scary.

i wouldn't be surprised indeed :lol

Still, there's 2 VC games up, the bare acceptable minimum.

I love how Gyarados is the same size as Pikachu in Pokemon Ranch. I'm glad we don't have enough money right now to buy it, because I probably would. :(

UPA is the best NES platform together with Kirby, SMB series and Megaman 2, why are you people whining?

I wish there was a sequel on DS...

Ten dollars for Pokemon Ranch? Seems awfully steep for what is essentially a utility for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. :/

As for the Upa game...if it's as good as some of you are saying, then it might be worth a look, The only thing I know about the game or its characters is that the protagonist was in one of the Parodius games...

I think I lost my point in translation, but that's not the inverse of what I was saying; in fact, I agree with all of that. You're talking about what gamers should be doing, while I was (making attempts at) talking about what Nintendo should be doing. My only point in saying that people had complained about game droughts in a retail library was not to suggest that they shouldn't have done so, but that there are very powerful reasons that new retail games can't be cranked out every two weeks or so--whereas none of those reasons are in place for VC releases.

I've bought 54 games and feel pretty confident that I have indeed played every excellent VC game I'd be interested in. :D Ninja Gaiden and its sequel are the only possible exceptions, but 2D action games are a fair way down the totem pole of genres I like.
Holy fuck on a fuck-sandwich covered in fucksauce.
Admittedly, I probably have about $150 in points, but I haven't been able to spend them due to lack of time to play the games. I mean, they're cheap (in dollars), but to play through them is an expensive drain on your time? You spend $5 on Zelda II and that eats 10 hours of your time! As it stands, I've only found time for a handful.

Your main point seems valid enough. I only question how much it really matters. Two to three games per week is only slow if you look at it from the perspective of building a comprehensive library of all the games worth playing on a half-dozen different old systems. On the other hand, if you just are looking for games to play, it's certainly enough (though three would be slightly better and four would be ever so slightly better than that).

Import week (though admittedly DigDug is on the weak side because it's not new to us). That's pretty good. We'll probably be getting some TG16 stuff next week then.

As for Wiiware the initial lineup should be winding down. Major League Eating, Magentica Twist, and Gyrostarr are the only things left we know about that should be launch window (IIRC). I wonder how they'll handle things once those run out.

Upa is a very fun game. One of my favorite Famicom platformers, actually. I sold my cart of it a few years ago, and I'm considering getting the VC version. I'd like to play it again.

On a side note, stuff like Dig Dug and Ninja Jajamaru-kun illustrate the flaw in automatically charging more for "import" VC games than domestic ones. Is Nintendo really saying Dig Dig is worth more than Super Mario Bros 3?

From whta I remember as a kid, Digdug came out in the US NES....didn't it?

Not legitimately, but I'm pretty sure it was on pirate multicarts. Dig Dug II did come out on the NES in the US though.

Not counting the compilations, Dig Dug did have US releases on the Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800, along with the Intellivision, Game Boy, and various computers.

The US divisions of Nintendo and Namco weren't on the best of terms during the 8-bit era. Damn you Arakawa and your narcoleptic ways!

Bio Miracle Bokuette Upa is a welcome sight, even if only that it marks the first Konami import title. That said, I miss the possibility of 4 game weeks, including last year's Zelda II and Toe Jam week.

At least they're trying...kinda.

WiiWare sucks this week, but Upa looks pretty fun. Might pick it up if those six dollars start burning a hole in my pocket.

Now hold on just a minute. Why are NES games now 600 points? Dig Dug and that other game aren't imports are they?

Upa is definitely an import. Apparently, the first Dig Dug game didn't come out in North America either.

Awesome.

Okay, Konami, now hit us with some Kid Dracula, Parodius, and, if you really feel like being totally awesome, some translated Goemon games, okay?

If releases continue in this capacity, i.e. 1 or 2 WiiWare games plus a consistent 2 VC releases, I can live with that. Chipping away at the enormous backlog, there'll always be something for someone, and 2 is better than 1 or nothing
(I can't believe I just said that).

Then again, I've yet to own a Wii, but the way Nintendo handles the VC at E3 and in the upcoming months will influence my decision to purchase one.

What you can expect: an updated total sales figure on a PowerPoint slide. That's it.

I'm just pleased there's more than 1 VC game this week.

I'll take my table scraps at this point.

I'm happy to read that. This week is hitting my "bare minimum". I never thought i'd say this but THERE IS some overreacting people this week.

I find it ironic that people don't have storage space on their Wii for Pokemon Ranch which is supposed to be a solution for the storage space issues with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Well, I've now made seven empty weeks without buying a VC game--equally as many empty weeks as my previous record droughts combined. Can we make it eight, Nintendo? Stay tuned for next Monday and its potential failure to sell me!

...Ah, but incidentally, I shouldn't quite say that since Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa actually looks pretty cool. Just not $6 cool--although that might only be my staunch hatred of babies coming into play. >_> Either that or my indignation that we get two import games and neither of them are Final Soldier, Star Parodier, Gley Lancer, or Super Fantasy Zone. Or even Gradius II, which I wouldn't buy but which I certainly recognize as a well-loved series.

Well, most of my games honestly don't take that long. Out of 54 games, I think the only ones that take six hours or more were Shining Force, Adventures of Lolo, Landstalker, and Adventures of Lolo 2. And I also buy a lot of space shooters that are over in an hour or less, along with stuff like Super Mario Bros., Streets of Rage 2, F-Zero X, or Star Fox 64, where any one playthrough doesn't last very long.

Is it safe to say that we won't be seeing Yoshi's Island, Earthbound, Mario RPG, Sonic and Knuckles, Pilotwings 64, Majora's Mask, etc., etc. anytime soon? What's the point of Virtual Console anymore?

Seriously? No Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa love?

I liked it. Though in terms of sweet-eating Konami import goodness, I'd really love to see that one platformer starring the penguin in which he has to lose weight.

Playing games you don't already have.

The VC thread is for bitching and moaning about how we can't rebuy a very specific handful of games we've already played to death. What did you think we were here for?

Storage solution coming?
Nintendo to release USB devices for Wii
Monday 9-Jun-2008 12:32 PM Hard drive? Rechargeable remote? Nerf missile launcher?
Nintendo is planning to release a number of USB devices for Wii, according to a job vacancy posted on its website.

The advertisement calls for a software/hardware tester that will work out of the company's Redmond offices in Washington State.

Among the successful applicants duties will be: "creating and executing a test plan for Wii's USB devices."

Our first thoughts were a USB hard drive, but Nintendo has repeatedly denied claims it was even considering one. Earlier today, we reported that Nintendo of Europe's managing director had dismissed the hard drive space as an issue only "geeks" were interested in.

I came for the lowered expectations, and I stayed for the bitter tears.

What's the point of even expressing ire or disappointment any more?
Playing no VC games and not expressing disappointment isn't as fun as expressing disappointment but still playing no VC games.

How's the difficulty in Upa?

Medium. It doesn't really stand out as being particularly easy or difficult, and it ramps up gradually but steadily as you progress. I've played up to world 5 (out of 7 total) so far, and it is indeed a pretty solid platformer, worth getting if you like the genre.

Yes, they are getting slaughtered by all those pikmins.
There is just not enough space in this tiny white console.

Hmm, I went looking for this, but I couldn't find it in the thread. Has Earthbound been announced for the UK yet?

In this month's Edge, on the first page of the hype section, there's a small screenshot of Earthbound listed under Most Wanted, with the blurb:

Edge UK said:
And so it comes to pass that Earthbound will finally make its way to Europe, via Virtual Console, 14 years after its Japanese debut. Cause for celebration indeed.
