Anyone think we will ever get a chance to see Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball?
That game is ten different kinds of awesome, kickass game. But I somehow doubt it'll get released on VCTheOrangeKid007 said:Anyone think we will ever get a chance to see Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball?
WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL
June 30, 2008
You want fireworks? Look no further than the Wii Shop Channel, where vibrant bursts of classic gaming action and fresh WiiWare content will help fill your living room with a flurry of ooohs and ahhhs. Puzzle-game mavens can enjoy a wild new addition to the WiiWare library, while the Virtual Console brings a truly classic fighting game to the fore. For an added holiday-week blast, fans of the WiiWare hit FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: My Life as a King can enhance the action with new Add-On Content.
Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:
WiiWare
Magnetica Twist (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): The classic puzzle game Magnetica is now available on WiiWare , putting its own unique "twist" on the puzzle-game experience. You're surrounded by marbles, marching slowly but surely down a track. Use a launcher (piloted by a Mii of your choice) to shoot marbles with matching colors and wipe them out before they reach the end of the track. Control couldn't be simpler, as all you need to do is twist the Wii Remote controller to aim and press the A button to shoot. And the game play remains as addictive and deep as you've come to expect in Nintendo's puzzle games, with five varied play modes, advanced mechanics such as the ability to lob marbles, and a never-ending supply of combos. This definitely isn't your typical game of marbles.
Virtual Console
FATAL FURY 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen-Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1992 by SNK, FATAL FURY 2 is the second installment in the renowned fighting-game series. In addition to Terry, Andy and Joe, who appeared in the original game, another five distinctive fighters gather from around the world to compete for the championship title. Also newly added are stage-specific hazards and the ability to perform desperation attacks when a character's strength is low. These particularly deadly techniques create the chance for a come-from-behind victory achieved with a single strike. Moreover, the innovative two-line battle, which proved popular in the previous version, also has been radically enhanced. Pressing the weak-attack and strong-attack buttons simultaneously enables players to move their fighters to another line themselves, or to launch an attack that pushes opponents back to another line. This game mechanic, unique to this title in the series, allows the player to take advantage of the depth of the screen and create even more exciting bouts. Can you prove yourself the king of fighters again?

How the hell do you get comic mischief into *MAGNETICA*? It's like making a Tetris with violence.Magnetica Twist (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points)

Exactly. Its overkill, with no real feature addage over the DS version.Stumpokapow said:Magnetica / Zuma / Luxor is a cool concept, and it's good to have it on the service, but since Zuma and Luxor are both on XBLA and Luxor is on Wii, I'm pretty sure the niche is somewhat filled.

Oh my gosh...FFantasyFX said:Perhaps the false expectations were set up by Nintendo of America actually competently adminstering a Virtual Console release schedule in 2007. I'm not sure the posters in this thread are to blame that Nintendo apparently promoted a pack of monkeys to take care of its download services in 2008.

But we are beyond the point of "not every week will have great releases in it". Allow me (courtesy of Wikipedia) to provide the last 6 weeks of SPECTACULAR releases:
City Connection
Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa
Dig Dug
Fantasy Zone
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Metal Slug
Ninja Combat
Samurai Shodown
Burning Fight
So in the last 6 weeks NA has gotten 5 average 8-bit games, 2 great NeoGeo games and 2 awful NeoGeo games. We haven't gotten a Genesis game since April. We haven't gotten a SNES game since MARCH! AND WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN A TG-16 GAME, the previous leaders of the service, SINCE FEBRUARY!!!
Sorry guys... it's gone beyond "You can't have a great release every week." The service in NA has been shit for a month and a half minimum now, absolute shit. Worthless. The two best games for the service have either already been released on the console elsewhere (MGA) or are coming soon on it (SNK Arcade). Sure they are "better" on the service, but that is still little consolation for the fact that that is ALL we are getting.
I've been here since day one (literally.. go back to page 4) and yeah... I'm done. Nintendo has taken what started out as and lasted for a year as THE BEST DOWNLOADABLE SERVICE out of all three options, and has turned it into a running joke. a Virtual Turd. Could they turn it around next week? Could they with a couple of single releases once again turn it into the best service? Aboslutely... but if you go further back than 6 weeks you'll see the service in NA has been sucking wind for a while. Oh sure the journalists willhave you believing that if you look at the service over 3-4 months that it will have seen a ton of great releases... yeah.. that was at the start of the downturn. It is shit now... and two months from now I will be SHOCKED, FUCKING SHOCKED, if VC has more than 4 notable games released for it in that span. It's obvious Nintendo is interested in promoting their WiiWare agenda... especially given that EVERY WiiWare game gets a spotlight on the My Nintendo channel no matter how awful it is. Well, fuck 'em. As of now I'm not supporting either. I realize the 1900 points sitting in my account is money they already received... but I can promise you it will be a long long long long time before they see any additional money from me through points.
It's like NOA is afraid of succeeding in certain areas.

Again, its naivety on YOUR part to think that this year is comparable to last year. Why does this year have to look like last year? Wiiware DOES change the equation, whether you want it to or not. You can evaluate the whole download service this year to last year, you can NOT evaluate virtual console this year to last year.borghe said:Blah Blah Blah
Wow, I didn't realize I was teaching business 101. Each territory operates as (basically) its own company. They're all able to set their strategies as they see fit. Sony does the same thing.Htown said:I'd buy that, except that other territories have WiiWare too, and their VC releases are much better than ours. Look back on the last couple pages.

Life operates a little differently than "I want it this way, so it should be this way."
are you kidding me?? this is the best you got?AugustDivision said:Again, its naivety on YOUR part to think that this year is comparable to last year. Why does this year have to look like last year? It doesn't matter, though. Good games will continue to come out and the whiners will still be here.
borghe said:are you kidding me?? this is the best you got?
Why shouldn't we be allowed to compare this year to last year? It happens all the time. If we get a good year in movies, shouldn't we be disappointed when the next year sucks? Your logic relating to VC is just flat out stupid. They gave us the expectation that VC would NOT suck by giving us good releases last year. They failed to meet that expectation when they gave us shit releases this year. Your accusation of OUR expectations causing us to be disappointed is as asinine as "well, you shouldn't have expected it to not be shit. It's your fault for being disappointed." Yup, that's it people. Expect everything to suck and you'll never be disappointed. P.S. That is almost quite literally the definition of an apologist.. Just saying.
As far as WiiWare being added into the equation, you need to check the WiiWare thread junior, because you'll see my collection consists of no less than 6 WiiWare TITLES. And you know what, the service STILL sucks, as the majority of those titles are from the first 2-3 weeks of the service. For about the last month WiiWare has been sucking also. Read my entire fucking post instead of just deleting it and replacing it with your own presumed-to-be-clever commentary. NOA is putting out pure crap on WiiWare also now.. the difference is that when shit is put out on WiiWare they'll put a cut video of it on the My Nintendo channel promoting its release. So you essentially have VC which has turned into one, sometimes two releases a week, and WiiWare which is typically one release a week. On top of that there is a 90% chance (going on the past 6+ weeks) that one or both releases will be somewhere between meh and "omg that is awful."
I'm glad you just got your Wii and are enjoying it. Glad that there are still a ton of great games on VC for you to yet download (another common line fed to us be apologists and even Nintendo themselves). Glad you haven't arrived at the point of exhausting your enjoyment from the systems. But those of us who have had our Wiis since day one and have pumped our $200+ into the service and WiiWare are now left with nothing of interest on the system and, despite items of interest in the pipeline, no indication or reason to believe they'll make it to the service any time soon.
So go ahead and spout your "whatever" or any other comment you deem clever enough to respond with. Talk about how there will always be whiners and how it's still the best service. Because sometimes the lone voice IS the muted voice of truth trying to get people to listen and see the light. but more often than not they really just are a deluded mental patient screaming about aliens coming to take them to Xenos. Sorry bud... you are definitely the dissenting opinion in a thread of people seeing the service for what it currently is. a big steaming pile of Nintendo poo that you seem to be enjoying every last corn-textured stink of.. grats to you I suppose. I just expected a tiny fraction of something more from it... like you know, more than 1 decent release a month?

don't bother... we've made our point. His whole line of "Don't expect much and you'll never be disappointed" is a typical pessimist line used to accept failure. I won't get personal with it, but needless to say arguing against that logic is arguing against the irrational. If he wants to continue to view the services through low expectations and rose tinted glasses, really more power to him. I just know that myself and every other reasonable person out there has a right to expect more than "god awful shit" from them.FFantasyFX said:You do realize what happens to products that do not meet consumer expectations? More often than not, they'll whither away and fail. I doubt the Wii is going anywhere, but the way the VC is being treated is not conducive to its long term health. It is the hardcore that is dumping the majority of money into the system, and it would behoove Nintendo not to repeatedly shove pointy sticks into their eyes.
*bangs head against wall some more*
I'm going to suffer from a concussion by this afternoon thanks to you. :lol

The funny thing about that is through all of his defense, I would LOVE to see what percentage of releases he has purchased from the last 6 weeks. And AD, before you respond with some made up list, I won't accept anything as the truth from you unless it's a pic of your menu with all channels in it.
Big words coming from a SEGA fan.SonicMegaDrive said:I know, but it still amazes me sometimes.

calling you a pessimist isn't name calling. It is by definition the view point you are claiming. pessimism (a general disposition to look on the dark side and to expect the worst in all things)
your failure at this point is that WiiWare hasn't slowed anything down in Japan, and hasn't stopped good to great weeks from happening in Europe. So your only real point is that "In america it has to be expected that WiiWare will slow down VC", which was coincidentally my point. We all know that the majority of WiiWare devs are western, and no from hinting that WiiWare is primarily a function of NOA. So yes, it is to be expected... it just doesn't stop the suck from sucking the big suck out of suck that we have to put up with WiiWare propaganda of typically bad shovelware flash cell phone crap (aside from the half dozen gems that HAVE been released on the service) at the expense of classic games that we would like see released which have already been released in other territories.1) Wiiware, as I've mentioned
Are you kidding me? Just in other regions alone there are over a dozen titles unreleased in NA that people have been clamoring for for months if not longer. And do you really feel the best is out or in the pipeline already? Even taking licensed and square-enix games out of the equation there are probably over 50 games out that either everyone would love or a large fanbase of a particular title or series would love. 15 years of gaming and you are telling me it really only produced 100 great games (accounting for only around half of VC being truly top tier, and even that's stretching it).2) The inability to expand the catalogue. They can only choose from a limited bag. The list of amazing titles released in the first year (and a half) of VC will never be matched because the caliber of released titles outweighs those unreleased.
jarrod said:Big words coming from a SEGA fan.

50 is certainly a good deal less than 100. I don't get your point. 15 years of gaming and you are telling me it really only produced 100 great games (accounting for only around half of VC being truly top tier, and even that's stretching it).
It's convenient that you leave off everything we do have.Hell, we still only have:
1 contra game
2 castlevania games
0 pilot wings games
4 turbo CD games
0 turbo cd RPGs
0 sega cd games
2 phantasy star games (out of 5)
0 game gear games
0 C64 games
3 master system games
14 N64 games
etc
And that is simply the list I could put together in a minute or so without any digging into more obscure titles with big fanbases behind them or even moderately popular ones that could easily push a few thousand in sales.
That really isn't the point you've been making or how you've truly resopnded to the situation, but even still, each territory has its exclusives. Each territory operates differently. I'm not a Nintendo apologetic, I'm just not delusional. This week doesn't condemn next week, and last week didn't condemn this week. And the worst part about your point, by the very basis of it, is you are essentially insisting that this is the best the VC will ever be. What we have right now, and that it will only get incrementally and marginally better over time. Hell, just catch us up to Europe and japan and every single one of us will stop bitching AND they'd have enough releases at one or two releases per week to carry us until fall. That doesn't even count my list which giving us just a quarter of it would be enough to carry us into the new years and the systems third year of life.
and as my final point to you.. do you really want to know why we find it awful? It's not because of what's out there not yet released. Not because of what we got last year. Not because of what we THINK the service could be. It's because other territories, right now as we type this, have had better release schedules on the service than we do over the past 6 weeks. So are we setting ourselves up for disappointment? Actually, NINTENDO is by the fact that if I had a PAL or JPN Wii I would have access to much better implementations of the VC service. If you don't think we honestly have a right to expect at least correlation to what other territories are getting on the service, then there is really nowhere left for this conversation to go.
Please do.MoxManiac said:The number is a lot larger than 50. I could probably come up with 50 NES games alone that could be added.
