haha, tentative
This is why leaks are a problem. It's like working on a painting, and someone displaying it when it's only half done. It hurts the artist because something's getting out there that people assume is the final version, the best version, etc.
The other people that it hurts are the FANS - I mean the *real* fans, the ones that care the most. The latest "leak" is obviously some experimental mix of Better - not any version I ever heard, but I don't claim to have heard everything that's out there... Whoever put it out there did a real mind****ing of the fans, especially to do it now, when the album's release is growing closer.
I have faith in everyone involved in the mixing of the album that they won't disappoint, they'll stay true to what you love about GnR. Now go hug the person next to ya. bbf
The good news is that all of the recording for the album has been completed. Drummer Frank Ferrer and guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal integrated themselves into the recordings seamlessly and will have their presence felt.
There is no official release date, as the band is currently mixing, but after some delays and scheduling difficulties, things appear to be moving along.
Take care,
Del James
PROGRESS REPORTS
Guns N' Roses makes their first appearance on a singles chart since 1999 as "Better" debuts on Active Rock at No. 39. The track was leaked via the Internet two weeks ago and was among four demos that made their way onto the airwaves in early 2006, only to be quickly pulled because of legalities. One of those four demos, "I.R.S.," briefly appeared on some of rock audience charts in February 2006, but didn't make our main detections-based radio charts. The last time Guns N' Roses appeared on a radio chart was in 1999 with "Oh My God" from the "End of Days" soundtrack. The single went to No. 27 on Active Rock, No. 26 on Mainstream Rock and No. 22 on Heritage Rock ... "Better" is of course from the upcoming "Chinese Democracy" album. Though the set was pushed back again from its March 6 release date, a recent update on the band's official Web site states that it has finished recording and is now mixing the album.
Yeah, and I'm still waiting for both of 'em. At least one of 'em has to come out this year, amirite?Kung Fu Jedi said:Been in production longer than Duke Nukem Forever! And that's saying something!
The mixing is done ... as Guitarist Bumblefoot told Maximum Treshold in his most recent interview
- "but I haven't listened to the final mixes yet!"
Are you gonna be included on all tracks?
Not on all, but on a good chunk of them, definetely. I played a lot of rhythm parts to the stuff - To me, it felt like a lot of the rhythm tracks seemed a little mechanical and just didn't have that kinda sleazy thing that GNR always had... Also, I was pretty much given a hundred guitar solos for each song to find the thing that's gonna work best - we made sure that every possibility was there.
How many tracks have you been working on?
I don't know... we've done so many songs and not all of them will be on the album. I don't wanna know too much about the album - I want to be surprised myself.
Did you have to talk to Axl about certain ideas he wanted or was it all left up to you?
He'd always be checking stuff... a lot of times we were recording he wasn't there - he just called and said "Hey play me some shit!" and we just hold up the phone to the speakers...

shantyman said:You could easily say an EPs worth of material is out there, even if it is not official. The real surprise is that it is GOOD. All of these tracks are good, which you can't say for half of the Use Your Illusions albums.
shantyman said:Well, in my defense many fans are excited. Studio versions of 2 song (Better and Madagascar) have leaked, and many more demos and live songs (IRS, Catcher in the Rye, There Was a Time, The Blues, Chinese Democracy) are out there as well. That's more than 20 screenshots or whatever from DNF.

Best Buy is set to be the exclusive retailer for Guns N' Roses decade-plus-in-the-making new album "Chinese Democracy" before year's end, sources close to the situation tell Billboard. Some details of the deal are still being worked out, including the release date.
The news brings a semblance of closure to the bizarre history of "Democracy," which Guns N' Roses has been working on since the mid-1990s. Since then, every original member of the once mighty group has left besides vocalist Axl Rose, and millions of dollars have been spent working on the new material.
"Democracy" was most recently on the Interscope release schedule in March 2007. The endless delays encountered by the project reached comic levels this spring, when soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.
In June, nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from the album were leaked online, prompting an FBI investigation into their source. A sign "Chinese Democracy" was perhaps finally nearing release came in July, when the band agreed to debut new track "Shackler's Revenge" in the video game "Rock Band 2," which hit stores earlier this month.
Guns N' Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart in 2007, much to the chagrin of other merchants, but the album was a runaway hit, having sold 3.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Theres yet another sign that this might finally be the year for Guns N Roses long-in-the-works Chinese Democracy. Rolling Stone can confirm that the album track If The World a version of which leaked earlier this year will appear in the upcoming Leonard Dicaprio/Russell Crowe movie Body of Lies, in theaters October 10th. The track features the guitar work of GNR guitarist Robin Finck, as well as Buckethead, who left the band in 2004. The song plays during the closing credits of the movie, but it wont appear on the soundtrack album. It will be the second official release of a Chinese Democracy track, as Shacklers Revenge is included in the new Rock Band 2 game. A source has told Rolling Stone that Guns N Roses has reserved a November 25th date for the possible release of the album, which will be a Best Buy exclusive.
The latest rumors regarding the release of Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy have been swirling around message boards this week. The first rumor is that the long-awaited album will be released exclusively through Best Buy on November 25th. The source of the multi-tiered rumors is a supposed vendor convention that Best Buy had on Wednesday in Dallas, Texas. Reportedly, Guns manager Andy Gould told the 900 employees the news about Chinese Democracy before previewing three songs from the album. Cellphone recordings of the event were later distributed through GNR fan forums. Gould also reportdly alerted the crowd that If The World would also be featured in the closing credits for the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio/Russell Crowe film Body of Lies, which was confirmed by message boarders on movie websites (like IMDB) who happened to catch a press screening of the film yesterday. The number of witness accounts, evidence and message boards involved makes it hard to believe this is all just a hoax, but this is Axl Rose were talking about, so well believe it when the press release reaches our inbox. Still, were cautiously looking forward to Chinese Democracy and free Dr. Pepper on November 25th.

No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better.
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
The hardest part this troubled heart has never yet been through now
We've healed the scars that got their start inside someone like you now
Well had I known or I'd been shown back when I longed you'd take me
To break the charge that brought me home and all that won't erase me
I never would know that I could
No matter what you'd pay me.
Replay the part, you stole my heart
I should have known you're crazy
If all I knew was that with you
I'd want someone to save me
It'd be enough, but just my luck
I fell in love and baby all that I wanted was
Now I know you better
You know I'd know better,
Now I know you better
So bittersweet, this tragedy won't ask for absolution
This melody inside of me still searches for solution
A twist of fate, A change of heart
Kills my infatuation
Of a broken heart
To provide the spark for my determination
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
Ooh, no one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
All that I wanted was
I know you know you know better
You know I know you know better
Now you know me better
(Solo)
I never wanted you to be so full of anger,
I never wanted you to be somebody else
I never wanted you to be someone afraid to know themselves
I only wanted you to see things for yourself
All that I wanted was
Now I know you better
Now we all know better
All that I wanted was
(Solo)
If I were you
I'd manage to abhor the invitation
Of Promised love that can't keep up
with your adoration
Just use your head and in the end
Youll find your inspiration,
To choose your steps, I won't regret
This kind of aggravation
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
