heh little tidbit from spinner.com

It's been almost exactly nine years -- or, more specifically, 3276 days -- since Guns N' Roses officially released a new studio track (operative word being "officially")

I think I liked the leaked version a bit more than the official radio single. It's a really poor choice for a lead single, but in this case I don't think it really matters. People, like me, will be buying the CD just because it's Chinese Democracy, regardless if it's a weak lead single. I'd expect 'There Was A Time' to be the second or third single, as it's just too good to keep an album cut.

I think Chinese Democracy is just meant to try and appeal to certain groups as a single. Die Hard GnR fans have been waiting years and will be there day one as will probably alot of other rock fans that are sick of the pop rock bullshit. The Album as a whole based on the leaks flows well enough.

Which is misleading, since it was just a weird random odd track.
It's been 17 years since a true GNR track has surfaced.

I actually think IRS should be the second single, followed by There Was A Time and Better. IMHO...

Ideal order would have been IRS, There Was a Time, Better. Street of Dreams would have been great as a single 15 years ago, but that kind of track doens't really sit well as a single these days.

I bet you are wrong!

I love the new vocal tack.

I am not sure it is an official single. It's been released to radio but not technically a single, so who really cares? The song is freaking awesome.

Also, tonight Tedesco! will be given his new avatar. It's one for the ages.

The final mix of Chinese Democracy (the single) sounds awesome, I love that extra rhythm guitar line they added in at the last minute. This will be a great lead-off single, I don't know what you guys are talking about.

"Better" should be the follow-up...

Sigh.... I lost an avatar bet to Shantyman, so I will honor the bet by having Axl's crotch as my avatar until 12.31.08 at 11:59:59. I must now pay for Shantyman's obsession.

I just listened to the song being streamed off gunsnroses.com.

Is that deep voice even axl singing? Doesn't sound like him at all.

That's what he sounds like; haven't you ever herad "It's So Easy" or "Mr. Brownstone?"

The high voice is all head voice with some bluesy grit. He naturally has a low voice.

Did he have to buy the record too? :D

hahahaha @ that opening riff.

i'm listening to chinese democracy. This sucks. But then again, it is Guns N Roses, so I don't know why I'm surprised.

I find it historic that this album actually exists, and I might buy it for ironic purposes ("I was fucking there"), but no, it's not particularly good. Just sounds like radio-friendly hard rock. It's in the upper-tier of modern radio hard rock, easily, but that's not saying a whole lot.

I didn't like Shackler's Revenge when I first heard it in RB, but it has since grown on me and that chorus is pretty catchy. Chinese Democracy sounds like shit, though. Can't believe that's a single.

They should have done a better job mixing Thal's "sleazy" rhythm track with all the layered Fortus/Finck tracks. They sound weird together; like they slapped Thal's new track right on top of a completed master of the song.

What part are you referring to?

Honestly, I think its very well mixed. It's very complex. It's certainly not straight forward type rock, it's a large meal and takes awhile to digest. If you don't listen you can miss out on what it has to offer.....
For example you can choose to listen to the lead track but miss out on rhythm and vice versa. Musical "opportunity cost". The rhythm track is great and there's this really heavy riff. Very catchy hook.

Bucket's lead track and the solo are really good. It's certainly not the Slash-esque bluesy style but it's very "tweaky". If you let it carry you away, it's like an emotional exploration. I don't know how to explain it, but it's really cool. And the refrain definitely sticks. People talk about it "ending before it gets started" but I totally disagree, it's an adrenaline ride of pure hatred, it's supposed to end unresolved. "Out of Time" the ending lyric goes.

Official Song Credit:
Guitars: Paul Tobias, Robin Finck, Buckethead, Ron Thal, and Richard Fortus
Bass: Tommy Stinson
Drums: Frank Ferrer
Keyboards: Dizzy Reed, Chris Pitman, and Axl Rose

One thing I've been thinking about is it's really NOT appropriate to call GNR v.2 the Axl Rose Project. All of the songs have been collaborations.

It's too bad that you don't understand the point of the cover.

Zeppelin IV is one of the best rock albums ever yet it's cover is very simple.

Would you rather they release an ultra-futurist pretentious cover akin the the Star Wars: A New Hope with Stephanie Seymour riding Axl's leg in a space-themed background?

It's subtle, refined, and timeless. Just like what the album aims to be. So far I'm sold.

No. I rather have this:

Oh and Zeppelin IV is fucking amazing. It's cover is definitely simple and that's what makes it amazing. Chinese Democracy cover has shit all over it! I rather have the artwork on it's own and let it speak for itself instead of covering it up with "BIG BOLD SIDEWAYS LETTERS" following by a bad logo placement. Pick one direction, not all. It looks something out of the "Random band and album generator" thread.

Well the great thing about iTunes and all that is that you can put your own in there then. ;)

The artwork on the backcover is killer. If you don't like that, there's no talking to you...

It's hard to explain if you haven't heard the earlier track. Ron Thal put a "sleazy ol' GNR guitar rhythm" on the new songs; on the left in the part right after the opening riff when the band comes in, you can hear a guitar track that's slightly out of time. That was Thal, doing that on purpose to get some bluesy sleaze into the song, and make it sound less like a guitar machine. He's also playing the harmonic-laden riffs on the right side starting when the band stops and Axl starts singing "If they were missionaries..." It's somewhat jarring if you ask me.

I can't wait for this album. A bunch of the leaked tracks are amazing! (some weren't good though)

Also the production sounds really sharp now judging from the website version of Chinese Democracy vs the demo one.

You don't know Shantyman. He kept calling and bugging me to add the avatar. I added it to quiet him down. His obsession with Axl's crotch rivals only his obsession with me. Disturbing...

Apparently, an extremely low quality version of the album leaked sometime recently. Basically, there was a lot of bitching that all of the "unheard" songs are all ballads. :lol

What that means is, the album has like 9 ballads and 5 "rock" songs. :lol

Not good Axl, not good

There is no way Sorry is a ballad, and I seriously doubt the same for Scraped.

From what I've been told (I didn't hear them, I just read); Sorry is a ballad, Scraped is a rocker with a "bad intro." Everybody is complaining that Sebastian Bach was crazy saying it's "Doom metal," because Sorry is just another ballad (and that he was edited out of that song).

From the a GNR message board discussing the leaks:

This I Love is pure cheese, I don't like it much...If you can imagine an even more sappy november rain, that's what its like.

Scraped sounds like one of the best songs on the album, a rocker, very cool riff, terrible intro though.

Well I woke up from bed to get these (I was browsing on my phone because I woke up in the middle of sleep for some reason..)

But before I go back to sleep... I like what I've heard. Sorry is the only track that is disapointing because Baz hyped it to be some epic hard song and it's more like an Ozzy ballad.

That was what a friend who d/l'd it told me.

I'm probably going to wait for release myself.

....what?

I am aware of that. But there were not more ballads than rock tracks on there.

I love GN'R ballads and their epic songs. Locomotive, Breakdown, Coma etc. are awesome and totally underrated.
Coma, Locomotive and Breakdown are all not ballads.

A ballad would be "Don't Cry" or "Estranged." Estranged is the best thing they've ever put to a tape, easy. But less than 1:1 isn't a good ratio.

That's why I also said epic songs. I didn't feel the need to mention Don't Cry, Estranged or November Rain because they're plenty famous, while those I mentioned are much more overlooked.

I love estranged... I actually prefer the live version off their Live 87-93 CD.
