Official Fable II Thread

Many "wRPGs" put "jRPGs" to shame in this regard. Persona 3 and the recent FFIV DS remake are the first Japanese RPGs I've played in a long time where you really had to bother with using the buffs and thinking about your tactics rather than just having a slog fest of mashing the A button.

And obviously there's a fine balance between too complex and too simple, and the comfort zone is different for everyone, but yes, I feel the Fable combat system is too simplistic and too easy to call the experience satisfying, at least as a game. The spell variety is not good either, as almost all the spells are direct damage and the differences between those spells is predominantly cosmetic.

Overall, I'm having fun with the purchase, it's just I'm not satisfied with that aspect. It's perfunctory, I suppose.

All SMT games are like that. Tales and the Mother series as well. Actually even Final Fantasy series forced you to use reflect, protect, shell, and regen for most boss battles.

Where do you get the items you win in the Fable 2 Pub Games? Merged my character and got the gold won but no items.

You have to talk to a game master in one of the pubs. Start a game then when you quit out you'll get the items.

On my next playthrough, I'm curious to seewhat would happen if, at Thag's camp in the beginning of the game, you killed the slaver asking for the key to the cage with the 2 prisoners, but never actually let the prisoners out, just left? I'm wondering if I'll find a couple skeletons later.

Man, wouldn't that be a nice touch.

How many towns are there in the game? I'm about halfway through the game now, and I'd like to buy some new cool clothes :/

No. I had 2 with Alex

Ok thanks, so it is possible.

I was asking because I can't seem to get Alex and my gypsy wife pregnant again. I don't think you need certain requirements to get your wife pregnant again, right? If not, then I guess it's like a certain percentage of chance that she gets pregnant and I'm just having a very long streak of bad luck.

This is kind of a real world situation is it not? lol

I wonder if Fable 2 will let you adopt......... or let you pay to download fertility treatments.

Do you really need money after you beat the game? I can give you 1 million gold if you want...
Nah, I got my million which was enough to put me over the 2.5 million mark to get the achievement, but it's just silly and frankly stupid. There is literally 0 reason for there NOT to be sales after the game's over... why in the world would they have done that?

Ahhh... help! Trying to speedrun the main quest line for my second play through:

Main quest spoiler:
I've got to Reaver, and making good progress but I need something like 12,000 renown to continue the story. Anyone have any idea how I can get big renown, and get it fast? I've done no side quests.

Do quests. Check your quest log and do whichever one gets you the most renown.

I'm not enjoying this as much as I thought I would. I dunno. Combat doesn't seem satisfying and I've encountered so many bugs I lost count.

How far in to the game are you, and what level are your combat abilities/magic at? The combat really opens up once you upgrade.

sacrifice

i can't get the silver keys that were buried? the dog appears for other quests that i need him for, but not those two. i have 49/51 silver keys and i'm missing the one in the hobbe cave and the one in the town square behind the inn...
When I continued to do the Archaelogist's quests, the Golden Trail activated when I was in the correct area, and it led me to the dig spot. There was even a little circle around the area that needed to be dug.

Not all of them seem to show up how much they get. Plus I know there's other ways of getting renown, I just can't remember how.

Bugged out for me completely under the same circumstances. Couldn't finish it. :(

I can max out all my abilities. Unless there are ways to chain super combos or anything of that sort, I haven't seen it. The only thing I see the generic brutal style combo.

I finished Fable II, while it has it flaws it definitely presents some awesome choices pertaining to your character where I had to evaluate and think about what I wanted to do. Especially love the "Love Hurts" sidequest.

NO!!!!

I healed my injured dog while he was swimming running through the tunnels
with Reaver
and he's stuck just swimming on the spot!!!

Saves and reloaded and hes still there, how can I fix this? just plow on?

edit: it worked :D

You still have a spade. I'm pretty sure the treasure is still there. You'll probably need a really good FAQ, or someone else to note exactly where they find the key. I wish I could remember so I could help you. I think it was in the alleyways between the houses in Bowerstone Market, near the Cow & Corset.

Of course, there are apparently 51 keys. So maybe you can pick up the extra one. Maybe that's why the extra one exists.

yeah i thought the extra one was for that same purpose but there's two that are burried that i didn't get. i read elsewhere after i posted that as of now, you can't get them even if you do the exact spot which seems like a horrible oversight as they allow certain other quests to be finished.
the demon door one gives you a ghost dog, and the archeologist's quests still function

credits rolling and well that was a totally awesome experience!

Loved it! I never play games again and will here (& end game).

Mixed emotions about how I ended it but thats such a cool thing to have.

Best game I've played since Mass Effect!

Actually, she hates it. Look at her stats, it says she "hates Bowerstone Cemetery".

When I brought her back and stole her from the guy I regretted it. And let her walk off on her own. Haven't seen her since. I wonder if she's still wandering around somewhere in the game world? She walked out of the house and down the path. I didn't bother to follow her. She seemed to have a goal and that goal was to get as far away from there as possible. :lol

But she doesn't hate the mansion. I never had any problems with her living there.

The game did present some cool choices. My favourite

-Obey or get scarred --> I chose obey
-Grow old or let the other grow old --> I chose grow old, had to think about it, but I wanted to see how my character would look
-Love, Sacrifice or Gold --> I chose Love because I thought it'd also bring back my sister :'(
Then there are two side quests "Love Hurts" and the Fairfax castle, which also give two great choices, but I don't know if you did them.

I didn;t I did co-op love hurts as a henchman and didn't want to marry that woman.

Loved the fact the last boss fight was a one shot, loved that I hated Reaver what a douche! hope they do something with his character tho defo the most interesting for DLC and dont know if I trust the sorceress with the spire.

That STD carrying whore Alex said she wanted a divorce. So I gave her one with the business end of my pistol. Got a new wife now (Annette the Barmaid), and a son - Lionheart Jr.

Can't believe that bitch wanted a divorce after I set her up in the best house in Bowerstone, gave her five times what she expected and visited her regularly. What did I get out of it? Two STDs. She deserved what I gave her.

...aaaaaand, done.

~4hrs 45mins for my speed run. I reckon I could cut about half an hour off that, if not more. Quite challenging as well, came close to dying far more than I did on my proper play through.

did you remember to not beat her when you visited her?

I was having trouble with that, it turns out women don't like being smacked around in fable either =(

Old JT would have a field day if he checked out this thread. :lol

I nearly spat out my drink when I heard someone muttering about "Badgers stealing cheese." :D

I thought it was cute when I had the Master Chief title and some kid came up and to me and said "Hey Master Chief, are you going to save the universe again?"

Anyone know where I can find this house?

Heh, I wasn't expecting D&D level complexity. D&D level complexity isn't even D&D level complexity anymore with the advent of 4th Ed, but I'm still liking it just the same.

I'm out of touch with the latest edition of D&D actually; I played it 10 years ago with friends and 2.0 rules are the ones I'm familiar with, and the only experience I have with 3.5 rules are from Neverwinter Nights games. I'll be among the first to admit AD&D is far from perfect and some of the subsets (psionics...x.x) are woefully open to exploitations. uggh...

I must say I was impressed with some of the characterization / drama. I really like Sister Hannah, for example. She's got to be one of my favorite characters in anything I've played in a while. I liked some of the choices you're forced into and how they're presented. Especially the Dark Seal. Granted, there's ways of removing the consequences, but still...

I agree somewhat, but I felt that
Reaver
turned up too late. He's the character with the most potential for moral ambiguity. I'm a fan of good prose in my games (Planescape: Torment) and while the premise laid out is decent for a rpg, I have to conclude that Lionhead succeeded a lot more on making Fable II's world feel alive than in penning engaging narratives.

I also have to disagree with the damage criticism. I've been surrounded while casting a high level spell before and watched that bar fall as they chop away at me. I've had to hit the health option a few times

As a wielder of arcane arts, you should never be held in that compromising situation in any game. It is an old tradition that magi have low health to balance against their large arsenal of long range spells, and in Fable II, although buffs are absent, you should be using Time Stop (2 levels below your highest current spell level as it is instant cast) to slow down the enemies as you charge up high level spells. If you're surrounded, the first order of business is spacing. This is again possible using Time Stop to teleport away. Time Stop's secondary function as an attack is more useful as a movement tool.

No pure mage should be at the frontlines without sufficient preparations. Fable II is generous enough to omit the punishment of spell interruptions, in more traditional crpgs using the D&D license you have to set up buffs so that spells cannot be interrupted. Stoneskins, Invulnerability to Normal Weapons, Globe of Invulnerability etc.

About 5. I could be missing 1 or 2 in my list here...

Bowerstone is one huge town connecting several smaller areas (including Old Bowerstone, Bowerstone Cemetry, Fairfax Gardens etc), Oakfield, Westcliff, Gypsy town and Bloodstone.

If you're looking to pimp your avatar, Bowerstone has 3 merchants to patronize: the male/female tailors, and you can get dyes from both of them as well as the hairstylist. Naturally there are other clothing merchants in each region as well, but I highlighted Bowerstone as my familiarity with it is optimal. If you're having trouble locating the main stores in town, keep checking sales. You can flag it as you do for quests, and the trail will lead you right to the desired merchant of your choice. There are also plenty of traveling merchants on the roads, keep checking out their stores as availability is random - even for a 5 star economy.

My gosh...I put all my houses up +100% last night, and when I went on today I have like 5k gold..and I turned fully corrupt :(

I didn't know it counted when you turn the game off!
Damn it, and I was so close to Pure >:(

Sooo... lower all the rent / prices all the way when you go to bed tonight, problem solved, lesson learned? :P

I did that on purpose when I went to bed last night, so I could wake up and open the Westcliff Demon Door. I set the rent to minimum and while playing for like 45 minutes or so, I pretty much got Purity all the way back up.

I don't think I'll bother putting the sliders back up. I have 3 million in gold. My wife wants 30 gold a day; I think I started by giving her 10k a day, then lowered it to 5k to see if it would make her upset. :lol I still haven't bothered lowering it from there. Why? What can I not buy with that much money. Even with all the rent turned down all the way I'm still making a profit and I can't spend what I have.

Thanks to pankaksreborn, I currently have a complete set of dolls for the "Dollcatcher" achievement. Who still needs them and will then pass them along to another gaffer?

Can you trade items without a Gold Account? I noticed I can see the orbs and I can interact with them... I think I can trade but I haven't tried it yet.
