Official Fable II Thread

GAME IS GOOD (so far)!

Childhood is entertaining, but nothing special. Once you hit adulthood however the game really comes into it's own. The dog mechanics are great (having it bark near chests, dig spots, etc) and the combat system is so far a lot of fun. Some choices made as a child seem to have a sizable effect on some areas in adulthood.

First city area is fucking brilliant. I just spent 2 hours in it not advancing the plot at all, just exploring and making some gold at the blacksmith's, listening to the burd sing and show me around, buying a cool outfit, hairstyle, courting a woman, buying a ring and getting engaged. Everything is buyable (just as advertised), I'm trying to save up to buy a nice house in the city center.

Story so far seems pretty decent.

A really nice "oh that's just cool" moment was when enter (location spoilers, don't read if your a spoiler-fearing person)
the academy from the first game, in ruins.

Also, I just found my first
demon door!

More impressions later.

EDIT: Oh yeah! The first thing you should do is turn the yellow-trail down to low brightness or off altogether. It is a little bit jarring and at the moment and I can't help but think a mini-map would have been nice as an OPTION. I'm currently using the trail on low brightness because without it there is no way to work out how to get around without pressing start and going into the menu. I do like the trail in some instances, it allows for you to explore more. For instance in a cave, rather than going the intended direction when you hit a fork, you can choose to take the exploritory direction intentionally. It means less getting lost really.

At the moment I feel Lionhead should have given the option for both a minimap (hell, there's a map in the pause menu that looks like a minimap) and the trail, or let us change the yellow-trail's colour to a more see-through greyish colour.

And you have officially made this wait painful. Bravo. :lol

didnt they give the original a 8.9?

Aye, Ryan posted his comments earlier in this thread. He did the review for both.

Yes, I can confirm that we gave it a 9.5. It's about that time where the first kid that lives near the post office next to our shipping warehouse would get the December issue. :)

I did the review (I also reviewed Fable 1 for us). I abso-f'ing-lutely loved the game.

ugh. Well I cant trust them. I thought the orginal fable was Mediocre. I want to know how someone who gave the original fable a low score would feel about fable 2.

Considering the score is well within range of the average on GR (85) I don't really see it being off all that much this time either.

Very few reviewers of note gave the first one less than 80%.

Yeah and IMO it is definitely a stretch to say that the original was not at least a decent game, if not for the inclusion of sim elements alone, even though it may not have been the masterpiece that Molyneaux suggested.

Got my tracking from newegg this morning. Was shipped out yesterday, but since I chose free 3 day UPS shipping, won't get here until Monday. :(

On bright side, saved $10 instead of picking up from local store.

Does GAF hate Fable? This thread is moving at a snails pace and people have the game!!
The people with the game are too busy playing and the people without the game are too busy rocking with anger toward the people with the game. :lol

What, the game isn't even out for the vast majority, heh. Even if I had it right now I would be playing it rather than posting. With that said I should have got in on the newegg deal.

Well Monday is better than Tuesday for us losers waiting for street date.

I'm at work now (came in late just to play through the first part of the game). Probably the same for many others that got it early. Remember the official release isnt until the 21st.

That said I doubt anyone who liked the first won't love the second. First thing I noticed is the music is damn awesome and the graphics are a noticeable step above the original.

Wouldn't that be a good sign? That means that they are actually playing the game rather than just talking about it...

Edit: Damnit Beaten!

Well, since my Newegg order was only on charged and not shipped, at least I was able to cancel it, cheaper to just go pick it up somewhere instead of paying that shipping charge. Would one be able to walk into a Gamestop in Albert Lea, MN on a Tuesday morning and pick up a copy of Fable 2 without a preorder?

Well hopefully as reviews come in and more people give us impressions the discussions will pick up quite a bit. That new gametrailers interview with Peter is GREAT.

Good impressions so far guys. Keep 'em coming!:D

quick edit: I kind of figured that sparkle trail would get on some nerves. It's nice to know there is an option to turn it off/down.

How big is the world this time? I found the first really bloody small and a waste of time. I like exploring, not running along small paths to the next town.

You could do that Monday night at most.

Oh man. All the impressions, videos, and descriptions are just making it so difficult to wait. Luckily I have dead space to fill some time but this is going to be a long long 4 days. :(

What I really want to know is:

What effect will the money glitch from the pub games have on my character? I raked up a nice amount of dough but I'm afraid to link it to my character if it's going to penalize me somehow.

And what about debt? Lol.

I have all the items from the tournaments but 80k debt on one character. I don't think I'll have the patience to dig out of that hole.

Wow...watching the Gunslinger video on IGN. You can shoot people in the nads with a rifle, almost makes the game worth buying!

The areas look much bigger too. This is what I'm hoping for. The game world is Fable is TINY. I wanted something epic and received something miniscule. Will Fable 2 redeem the mistakes of Fable?

this is very good news i was afraid the "bread crumb trail" was going to be jarring and take away from the experience

Thank you newegg! I will play later tonight and post some impressions when I get a chance.

I saw that you posted and thought it was going to be your impressions!!!!!! Total let down, get to playing already!

So did Newegg totally take off Fable 2 on their site now? I don't see it listed anywhere? :lol Trying to cover up the fact that they shipped early??? or??

Most likely, MS lawyers probably had something to say about the broken street date.

Does the interaction feel more relevant this time around or does it still feel like your playing a big world with a lot of gimmicky mini-games?

Kind of a stupid question but do we get to name our dog and pick out what kind of dog it is?

Same thing for kids do we to name them?

I'm glad you got it Coco judging from your awesome Halo articles I'll be looking forward to your impressions.
