It is not like Oblivion. The best example I can think to give is Ocarina of Time. You have zones that have exits. Within those zones, you can explore freely, but when you reach an exit, text comes up at the bottom of the screen letting you know where the exit leads, and you just keep moving forward if you want to go there. A loading screen comes up with a pro-tip like "Pies will restore health, but don't eat too many!" Then you're in the next area. (And there's no "Hyrule Field" zone that connects all of them.)Tiamatsword22 said:I take it to mean it's like oblivion in that it's a open world game with tons of options, but that it actually has personality.
No, it isn't a single seamless world. But I wouldn't call the paths closed at all. There are trails that you're encouraged to stay on, but in many areas - like forests - you can abandon the path and run off into the grass. Last night, I passed through a mountainous area where you pretty much had to stay on the path for the most part. And in areas like towns, pretty much everywhere is fair game - you can walk down the path to get the inn, or you can hop a fence and cut across a farmer's field.jetpacks was yes said:Wait there isn't a single seamless world like Oblivion? More closed paths like the first game?

But it is a good mix - I have seen plenty of areas where you have to stay on the path, and plenty of areas where you can free roam. It really hasn't bothered me at all. And even the mountainous area that I described had branching paths that you can see from your current location - "hm, I wonder if I'll be able to get up there?" And you progress forward a little, take a fork in the road, and you end up doubling back to an area higher in elevation than your previous location. Basically what I am saying is that the "closed path" areas feel fine.
But yeah, it's definitely not a seamless, boundary-free world like Oblivion. But in some ways, it is similar.
I'd have said that one was pretty obvious. Fall to your death on one side, un-climbable wall on the other. :lolConfidence Man said:So a scene like this, you're basically stuck on a path?

That image is definitely not representative of the game. There have been very few times when I've been stuck on a path that narrow.Confidence Man said:So a scene like this, you're basically stuck on a path?

I haven't seen any other dogs. There are chickens and rabbits in various places; but I haven't seen any dogs (I'm not even halfway through the game, yet, though).Wiggum2007 said:Something I've always been curious about: are there any other dogs in the world? Well, it's not Oblivion, but it's not Fable 1, either. It's sort of a middle ground.jetpacks was yes said:Oh dang, so it's only a small improvement over the first game in that regard. The restricted freedom in the first Fable was one of my biggest problems with the game, considering the promises of Project Ego. :/ Crapppp.

I'm so pleased to hear that. I would not have wanted Oblivion in Fable land.Cocopjojo said:Well, it's not Oblivion, but it's not Fable 1, either. It's sort of a middle ground.
jetpacks was yes said:Are you familiar with the original intent of Project Ego? Would you be able to make any comparisons between that and the final product of Fable II?
Also are weapons still banned in towns?
No, I'm not too familiar with Project Ego. But I mean, it's like what I said. It's like Ocarina of Time (x1000) - some parts are like Hyrule Field, where you can free roam, and come back to your path when you want (or cut across to another path that you can see). And other parts are like scaling Death Mountain, when there's a trail you have to stick to.jetpacks was yes said:Are you familiar with the original intent of Project Ego? Yeah, I think that the combination of path and free roam areas works really well for the story that they're trying to tell.Psychotext said:I'm so pleased to hear that. I would not have wanted Oblivion in Fable land.

What about the NPCs that give the quests- they can't be killed surely?
I don't have a source, but I remember reading that some quest-givers can be killed. The non-essential ones.RichardAM said:Can you really 'kill' the characters or will they respawn once you re-enter the town/zone?

I'm in the same boat. UPS says I should get mine back on the 22nd, but I'll receive my Fable 2 on the 21st from Amazon. I guess I'll have a day to moan and groan about how I'm unable to play the game.Timber said:fuck yeaaah microsoft has sent out my xbox, should have it within a week
