Official Fable II Thread

Aussies, word on the street is that EB is selling the game tomorrow and breaking embargo.

But you didn't hear it from me :P

IGN UK: 9.5/10

Just saw that DailyGame review I was like who is that, heh. Anyhow nice IGN UK rating. IGN and Gamespot seem a little late to the party this morning however. Of course they my hold their full reviews like 1up until the co-op patch hits.

The Dailygame review touches on something I think a lot of people WILL have a problem with and that's the gold line vs no mini-map issue. It is easy to get lost with or without the gold line and it does sometimes get scrambled trying to find the best route to your chosen task.

It would be great to at least have some sort of usable map for navigation and i'm not sure why something like this was omitted from the game. It's a legit issue, but the game remains awesome regardless IMO.

short question: the whole "you can plant a tree"-thing isnt really implemented, right? Im on a video-blockout atm, so I wont watch those gametrailers videos.

I think you can "plant a tree" metaphorically by making decisions that affect areas and people later in the game. A bit more interesting than "ooh I planted that (actual) tree".

Isn't there a standard map on the pause screen?

Yeah but it's pretty much useless as there's not a lot of detail there and there's no option to zoom in to make it useful for navigating IMO.

They omitted it because there's no adventure in adventure games with mini-maps, finding your own way in the unknown is after all, a pretty decent definition of adventure*.

*This is the theory anyway

This is one of the very best reviews of any game I've read.

Loved this blurb -
Deciding to put off questing for that rare treasure you've been seeking for weeks on your one day off from real-life work because the townspeople want your blood for overcharging, your wife is pregnant with your third child and she wants more money and nice furniture for the family, your ex-wife is sleeping with the blacksmith at the store you own, and your first-born son is attacking the neighbor's chickens with the toy sword you gave him.

Same here.

I canceled my FO3 CE pre-order for the Fable II standard edition pre-order two days ago :lol

This pretty much came out of nowhere for me but it looks great.

A 9.5 in graphics from IGN is crazy IMO when Uncharted got a 9.

Different reviewers, the accomplish different things, and Fable 2 has such a unique art style that it matters more than whatever bling bling the game might be using.

I get that, but just because it has good art to some does not mean it has good graphics for all.

Ok. Which means that in this case, the reviewer, like many, thinks the game looks beautiful. Now you are free to think otherwise.

So you're actually arguing that Uncharted is objectively the best looking console game? :lol

You realize that IGN has different reviewers for each channel, and IGN360 editors don't scale their games based on IGN PS3's scores unless the games are multiplat right?

Take solace in the fact that Dead Space is a better-looking game than Uncharted and also got a 9 in graphics.

Played a few more hours last night, this is seriously becoming one of my favorite games of the year. I enjoy it so much that I've only played LBP for one hour >.>

My girlfriend and I were pretty excited about the co-op but I learned this morning that one person has to choose from a list of pregenerated characters instead of using their own character.

Is it that hard to put co-op in a game and not have it look tacked on? I hope they at least patch in allowing you to look like your character... because that's like... the whole point of the game. You can't say the story is about you and then make one person play a pregenerated character. This is like Viva Pinata: TIP when one player is the water can bitch while the first player does everything else.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. Isn't it drop in/out co-op? Your girlfriend should be able to use her own character and just enter your game at any time.

hmm.. I thought I remember reading that the second player can use their own character if they have a gamertag on the system. It would be nice if someone who owns the game could confirm.

From the Ars Technica review:

The inclusion of co-op is something that's a big selling point for the game, but it's not worth spending much time on in the review. The game includes both drop-in, drop-out offline co-op, as well as online co-op, both of which are excellent and offer something unique beyond just buddying up for combat, in that players can perform tag-team moves and expressions, and the visiting player has a lasting impact on the home player's world. In that regard, the co-op is excellent. Disappointing, though, is that, in both flavors, visiting players do not use their actual avatars: they use henchmen which take the place of their avatars and transfer gold and experience orbs back to their own player.

I believe he is referring to local. I don't know if the co-op patch would remedy that at all or not.

Get her to start a game on her profile first. The way I understand it, she can bring her own character in once she's done that.
Basically if you haven't created your own character, the game allows you to play as a pre-generated character.

False.

Not only that, in VP: TIP you can set it so that the other player has full access to your garden. So they can do everything that player one can do.

I'm not sure if this is a joke post or not...

Phew. Misleading info from the review then. I'm assuming you guys have the game already then and can back it up? Because I've seen both stories a couple times now.

Not to clutter the thread up with OT stuff, but I played the VP: TIP demo yesterday and couldn't find the option to allow the second player to be more than water/grass/shovel duty. Is that option something that's only in the full version?

I've been playing the game for the whole weekend, and yeah, this is completely stupid. Graphics aren't disappointing, but they're not really even Viking or IU level, definitely nowhere close to Uncharted, and in fact they can look quite average in some areas (and if one doesn't like the artstyle, I guess it'll look downright bad). The game's very much an RPG-lite + Sims, fun, but anyone really into RPGs shouldn't expect a perfect game. Pretty sure a lot of people will love it though.

Indeed. :lol

Anyway seems like Fable 2 is a big step up from F1 as expected.

They use their own character in a sense. All of the experience and skills that they have remain, but they choose from a pregenerated character (looks wise) and choose a weapon and gun from a list, so they don't bring their own weapon in either. Pretty weak imo.

Also, I had some questions for the people who have the game and gotten farther than me. Where the hell is the damn armor!!?!?!?! I can't find an armor trader anywhere and the clothing traders only sell really bland robes. So far the only decent looking clothing I've gotten in the game is
the spire clothing.
Also, are there any cool looking weapons past
the master set. It just seems kind of lame to have just a few weapons, and make them rusty, iron, steel, then master. I want a big ass sword or something to wreak havok with.

Also, since I've played this game pretty much co-op only with my roommate, I'll give some impressions. It's a lot of fun to play with someone else, but is really lacking in its execution. The second character is really limited to what they can do. Basic weapons only, only six avatars to choose from, can get gold, but cannot talk/trade with any NPCs. The character also becomes a ghost whenever there is quest dialogue occuring, and is never referenced in the game at any point. My main gripe with it is the camera. The R-stick is disabled and the only way to move it is to recenter it with LB over the 1st character. Also, there is only so far you can move away from your partner, and it does not extend to the edge of the screen, so your character hits an invisible barrier. It is especially frustrating when one of you is ranged and the other melee (like we did) and the melee character can never reach the enemy, as they stand just outside of the invisible wall seemingly on purpose.

Despite all of those shortcomings however, the co-op is a ton of fun. Just going into a town together and slaughtering countless people, so satisfying. I'm hoping that online co-op fixes pretty much all of these problems.
