Official Fable II Thread

How do you glitch in pub games again? The game would get a lot more fun if I had more cash. I can't seem to get enough going.

I'm finding the game to be underwhelming in a technical sense. The game flip-flops between breathtaking beauty and looking like a high-resolution PS2 game.

I'm also finding the interface clunky, and the character movement too heavy.

The final disappointment would be that the game is split into a million tiny pieces, each separated by a lengthy loading screen. This is not only irritating, but ruins any sense of immersion and 'place' that Albion might have had to offer.

HAVING RANTED THAT, I do think the scope of the world and sheer amount of things there isto do is highly impressive, as is the quality of the art direction and voice acting.

The combat is also pretty interesting; I like the three-button set up, and I appreciate its accessibility and potential for depth.

Still, though - Oblivion managed a far more convincing and larger fantasy world than Fable II and did it without splitting up into tiny regions. Not saying Oblivion is a better game, but it definitely evokes a sense of place far better than this title.

I'm only a few hours in, we'll see how it goes.

Just got my LE, opened it, no DLC card.

Official victim of retardation am I.

I think I'm just shit out of luck. I don't know how they presume to resolve this blunder.

It has to be pre-patch to glitch, so reset the cache if you patched already.

Basically bet the minimum in fortune's tower and hold LB right after you hit A to bet. You'll notice the bet increase to max as the cards are dealt. So now you are only risking a minimum wager for maximum possible gain. Just remember to lower the bet back to minimum manually to repeat the process for every new hand as the game doesn't do so for you.

Buy stores and houses. You get roughly 1% of the property value every 5 minutes of real time. I'm getting almost $4000 every five minutes now. I'm still broke a lot because I re-invest it in more properties, but that turns into a game all its own.

Fuck...that is why I quit Fable 1 a couple hours into it. The loading and zones aggrivated me to no end and destroyed immersion and fluidity. Figured the next-gen sequel would fix up the loading and zones.

You at least mean high res Xbox game right? Also Oblivion might have had the no loading down packed, but the the world really seemed samey...except for that one snowy town. I'd rather have a diverse landscape with equally diverse monsters, enemies, spells and equipment, than no load times.

Loadings are quick and some of the areas are really big. The guy is smoking it.

damn...why couldn't the game have been seemless?? Fallout 3 is, and I think that games looks fantastic graphically

Fallout 3 looks horrible and empty.

Haha, probably, yeah.

It looks good, for the most part. But when you're alternating between something like Dead Space and this game (notwithstanding the vast differences in intent with regards to art style and scope), Fable II just comes off as sloppy-feeling.

It sort of bothers me that Oblivion and GTA IV can manage huge streaming worlds, yet when I want to travel around Fable I have to stare at multiple load-screens. There's no sense of this pushing the hardware in any meaningful way.

Still, love the dog!

its all engine optimization, the game looks surprisingly gourgeous, alot better in person than in screen shots.

This game is pretty cool, but I agree with the techical issues SidZed2 posted.

The loading times on this game while fast-traveling are god-awfully long. A lot of stuff technically annoys me in the game. The game itself is fine though. I'm having fun teaching my dog tricks, and such.

To get your pub games items,
when you get older and go to Bowerstone, go to the pub, and play a game (or any pub, and play any game) and then you get your stuff. This is after you merged your data with your Pub Games character.

The only problem is that you need to grind up to a lot of points in order to start making the real money.
It probably takes several hours just to get to the 150-1500 wager game.

I've told plenty of people this so far: I'm enjoying Fable 2 and a lot, if not all, of the ideals that Lionhead have tried to incorporate but there are just so many small things that frustrate me. Combat works, but you'll only enjoy it if you stay away from the easy to do system of Button Mashing. Interacting with NPCs around the world is rather childish and Sims like, but you'll keep going back to see how the world is changing around you, as well as the laughs you'll get from fist-pumping the air after someone hands you a fine for killing an innocent bystander.

The world is huge, and the fact is, all of the small bugs and glitches will be overlooked by every RPG fan out there. You'll spend weeks of your life playing this, exploring every bit of the land possible, and trying your best to complete every side quest, open every demon door and silver chest, and you'll probably still miss something. I can see where the attraction is, but it just isn't as polished as it could be. If the game was presented a little better, and had a healthier option for interacting with characters then this would be a must-buy for everyone. But as it is, it's just a must-buy for the RPG fans that won't care about presentation, annoying mini-games and annoying NPCs.

Closing comments from the guy I got to review it for us.

I don't have enough money to do that. I don't know where my money keeps going or how to make it quick.

The jobs are HORRIBLY boring.

Is it just me, or is magic completely gimped in this game?

I have rank 2 blades and rank 2 inferno

and I died like 5+ times trying to get the mage hero out of the tower, before he was taken away. I can't kill shit anymore.

Any tips?

The quickest way is jobs. I know the jobs are boring, but you'll get quite a bit of money getting to 5 stars. Use that money to buy property. You could probably do it now. Stands are pretty cheap, as are the wagons in the gypsy camp (these are under $1000). Once you own property you'll earn money even when you're not playing. It's nice loading the game up after you have played for a day to a whole grip of money.

Hero chest. Search for it?

My LE didn't have the DLC or Live cards, good job MS. The guys at Gamestop said corporate was telling them to give people the 800-Fix-Xbox phone #, but that is a retailer line only that couldn't help anyone. Even if the game turns out to be great, I'll always associate the game with the complete fuckup with the LE downgrade, co-op patch, and now this.

Mejilan said:
Some people are not getting all of their LE contents? What should I see inside my case?

There should be cards inside with the codes for the LE DLC stuff, along with the usual Live trial card. Apparently versions of the LE that didn't have a sticker on the wrapper seem to be the ones without them.

I like that... a 'grip' of money. Is that a real collective noun? A 'grip'? Awesome. I had not heard that.

I had heard that the bird is the word, however.

Well apparently the bird is greater than or equal to the word.

You should see 2 discs, the manual and a code to download bonus content. The majority of the copies are missing that code and Microsoft is working on a solution.

Was the rumor about getting points that make you ugly false then?
Yep.

If I cheated in the pub games and I transfer it to my game, what will happen?

Just a minor correction, yes nothing will happen, but if you have debt (as I did), as soon as you merge your pub games patron with your character and back out, you'll see a flood of negative reactions to people and a guard will come rushing in and arrest you.

I chose community service hehe. No other ill effects, though.

There is sooooooooo much you can do in this game and it all effects each other, so I just don't know where to start. This happens whenever I'm in this situation in games. I'm a perfectionist, but there's no way to come out completely on top in this game. If I do this, I'll get money and be in good standing with him but oh wait, now that other lady hates me and if I don't do it, she'll be the same but I won't get the benefits of doing the first thing but oh wait, I can buy clothes to make it easier, but this shop is on sale and I want new weapons but that doesn't have to do with my original problem and oh god I've just wasted an hour debating this so I'll do the main quest and decide this later BUT WAIT THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS WAS TO DO SOMETHING BESIDES THAT AND OH GOD NOW THERE'S TEN MORE THINGS TO DO AND WHAT THE HELL DOES MY DOG WANT, I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DIG A HOLE *explodes*

Whoops my fault. Sorry about that. I think the Limited edition DLC is in the limited edition dungeon.

Haha, I'm 'smoking it'? I wish I was!

But seriously, the loading and fragmented feel won't bother some people (like yourself, seemingly) but for anyone who likes to feel immersed in a convincing game world, the dissected feel of Albion in this game will probably be a huge disappointment, considering that many were expecting a 'next-gen / current-gen' sequel to Fable to rectify those issues somewhat.

Again, think of GTA IV and how seamless that city was - despite what people might think of that game, its massive city at least felt like a convincing place. The neighbourhoods weren't separated by load times.

As you say, 'some' of the areas are really big, but pray tell how do they fit together? For me, they felt like disparate chunks. For example, this is the 'town level', this is the 'rural community level', this is the 'swamp level', etc. I want to be able to stand on the tallest mountain in Albion and look out over the city, and then run there without being jolted out of the experience. Again, this is just my own personal disappointment. The game has many fine qualities.

Awesome, thanks. I got the receipt, a manual, 2 discs, a 48 hour XBL Gold trial card, and a DLC card for The Hall of the Dead dungeon, The Wreckager legendary cutlass weapon, and an Otherworldly Bonus.
