Damn, missed that on my first playthrough... gotta check it out tomorrow :)

Did something happen after the credits? I heard something did...btw thanks for answering my quesitons

Yes.
Cortana is talking to Gravemind and says she's ready to answer his questions.

And I was also thinking that Gravemind was somehow the mastermind of the Flood or something, but is there any solid hints to that in the game.

I replayed the last level today.. just to see the ending again.

And Cortana really gives this creepy look when she says "shoot" to the Gravemind. Then the music goes wild. Dunno what to think. I hope she doesn't betray us :|

Two interesting findings from Halo 2 - dunno if they've been mentioned yet, couldn't bother to go through the mile-long thread:

temple

:lol :lol :lol

The intro movie that begins if the game is too long in the title screen just cracks me up every time I see it - in the Live part there is a player with gamertag "OH TEH NOES 1111"

I read that Bungie pulled sprinting because it didn't make the game flow the way they wanted.

What were they thinking? The flow of the game especially in multiplayer could benefit a lot from sprinting. The maps are so big that it always takes forever to find people or get from one side of the map to the other.

i really like the fact that you have to bust your ass bringing the flag from one side of the map to another. It's not easy, but it's 100x more fun than having a lame sprint feature.

LOL i though hell froze over when i saw on bungie.net that no friends on my friends list were online.... go look in halo 2 to see 25 online :P

I think that's why there are vehicles in the game...

She was bordering on betraying you in the first game. I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Finally got to play some co-op with my bro... a question.

I play on a 16:9 display... the damned game has a vertical split screen... where is the option to make it a horizontal split??

Just finished it. I am completely blown away.

The combat is 10Xs more intense than in the first one. The battle rifle is one of the coolest weapons in any game I have ever played (even though ammo was sometimes very scarce). I like the no health pack deal - completely alters your strategy from what you did in the first game. The game has such a huge scope to it. Sometimes I would just stop and look at the scenery.

My favorite level was probably "Regret" - where you take those floating crafts from station to station in the lake (and go under the lake). The one battle trying to get into where the Prophet of Regret is located and is protected by all those honor guard elites was probably the hardest part of the game for me.

When I read from reviews that the ending sucked I just knew it was gonna end with a huge cliffhangar like in Matrix 2. That's fine with me because that means Halo 3 is a virtual lock for Xbox 2.

I like how this game forces you to at least try every weapon. Very few games actually try to make you do that.

I like how there were so many more vehicle battles in this one. I think the AI from the guys controlling the banshees could be a ton better - they were pretty much fodder. They need to make them faster as well. For all the talk about the new cannon on the back of the warthog, I think I used one warthog with that weapon.

The story had a ton of twists. I sometimes have difficulty following stories in games, so I hope they write a book like "The Flood" that explains everything a lot better leading up to Halo 3.

Also, if you read "First Strike" you will find out that she continually copies herself while she is in the Covenant network. Perhaps that Cortana isn't really the real Cortana?

i got beserker playing with my friends. too awesome.

after rampage he says "IN THE ZONE!" and then after beserker he says "UNTOUCHABLE!"

it was juggernaut though and i had the sword in lockout :P

So why did they get rid of the emblems to let you know the highest difficulty at which you had completed each level? I liked that!

yeah, i miss that too. under your profile it'll still list the highest difficulty on which you've completed the game, though.

Good God Legendary is driving me and my buddy insane. We're on the second gondola, where you approach three grunts with explosive rockets, 4 flying elites, 2 normal grunts, 2 elites, and 2 banshees.

Right.. vehicles aren't available on all maps and sure don't help in corridors.

On the small maps you don't need them. Using corridors is a way of sneaking around the big areas - you can't sneak in a truck.

hehe i love driving my ghost into buildings you just dominate, however there is always a passageway that doesn’t allow the ghost to pass.

regarding brutes/elites/prophets/etc

One thing that's interesting... is that the covenant was formed by 2 warring parties (Elites/Prophets) and then they bullied the grunts, jackals, hunters and drones to become part of it. Brutes were the only race which didn't require an asskicking to get them to join. Damn new kids on the block. Maybe that's what the covenant are trying to do, get the humans to join by forcing their religion onto them?
In the "Coversations from the Halo Universe" booklet that comes with the LE, one elite wonders why humans weren't offered a spot in the Covenant. Once the Covenant was formed, all races they encountered were offered a spot, so why not humans? They immediately declared war on humans.

Most likely because the prophets knew it would be difficult to maintain their position of power were involved once humans came in to play. Earth is "the ark." We controlled the planet that would have been most important to their "great journey." Of course, Regret seemed not to expect us to even be on earth, so it's hard to say. Perhaps only Truth knew that.

Argh, just finished it. Setting flamebait to 'on' but...I thought the last level, and the ending, was a massive letdown. All the wait, all the hype, for that. My opinion, I guess. At this moment, having literally beaten it on Heroic five minutes ago, I have to say I am seriously dissapointed.

I hadn't noticed that. I hope it lists the highest difficulty with which you have completed every level.

I hate 1 hit kill weapons. They are SO LAME.

Shotgun! Sniper! Rocket's ok but those other 2 are just the epitome of "oh puhhhhhhhhleeze". What's really annoying playing Slayer is Bungies insistance of putting a shotgun around every corner. LIKE WHAT THE HELL?! argh.

Oh and the spawning system is all crappy too. I can barely stand playing rumble pit ascension because i'd kill someone i'd make sure the area is clear then move out, almost instantly i'd be smacked in the back of my head. That is awful.

Shotgun is important on maps with the plasma sword....cause it is possibly the best counter weapon for it.

sniper isnt a one hit kill unless its headshot of course.

the one thing that annoys me in multipalyer is the difficulty of jacking someone elses vehicle...

cause thats basically your best counter against someone in a vehicle (unless u got a rocket launcher of course or If your just godly with your aim). And 9/10 its hard to do that shit and u just end up getting ran over.

peace

vehicle jacking is way too easy i think

Just beat the game. Loved the ending.

I'll post more after I've slept on. Now I can check out the stuff on the bonus DVD.

Oh, and the
Gravemind/Cortana
showdown at the end was a cock-tease of epic proportions.

Shotgun is overrated. The only way those are one hit kills is if they shoot you point blank range. And if you let a guy with a shotgun walk up to your face, I don't think you're going to get the upperhand, no matter how many shots it would take to put you down.

I don't see how you think bein a Sniper takes no skill...you have a tiny ass crosshair and 9 times out of 10 the target is moving or jumping.

The beauty about this game is that it is totally customizable. Set up the game for how you want to play. Just got done playing a match of rockets only. It was fun, but I didn't do too well.

Turn widescreen off. For some reason when Widescreen is one it splits the screen side to side. A buddy of mine played through the entire game that way. Sucks to be him. :lol

holy shit the last boss is fucking impossible on legendary. i spent five hours on the last mission today only to get to him and then give up.

played some fun system link games on my dorm's network today, open games set to unlimited kills for hours are so amazing. was up by 30 or so kills at the end of the first game, down by 20 in 2nd place at the end of the second, slightly longer game...it probably went on for two hours. played a team unlimited kill game today too, but my team got destroyed...although it was 4 against a team of 6 and a team of 8. but still, we should have won, except we just suck at teamwork (especially me)

tartarus?

He's quite easy. Just avoid him, while keeping an eye on him. Johnson will be sniping him while he's running after you. Every now and then, Johnson's shooting will bring his shield down and that's when you need to attack him. Whenever you get hit, just go to the floor below, recharge shields, and go up. Rinse and repeat.

just spent 3 hours trying to keep my marines alive through gravemind on heroic. eventually the pack was thinned down to david cross, some aussie, and some black dude, but i did it. man, david cross says some stupid, hilarious shit. as several grunts tried to run away: "hey, let's catch one and ride it." :lol

you have to act quickly and efficiently to clear areas before the marines get a chance to do something stupid (e.g. walking right up to a hunter, armed only with a plasma pistol). i had to come up with some really elaborate, esoteric strategies for a few sections. it's frightening how deep the single player is, and how many ways a given situation can develop. and head-shooting brutes with the carbine is probably the greatest thing ever. i'd meant to take it online for the first time, but i just got so caught up in that level. i <3 halo 2.

you know what a good game is? Halo 2.

I hosted a multiplayer session yesterday starting at 4pm... I had to leave between 7:15pm and 11am.. but you know when the night ended? 2am.

Yeah, I said 2 AM.

I finished the game and am now fooling about on easy, mostly checking out the levels and environment (you can get on most of the rooftops in the first part of Old Mombasa btw, just before Hotel Zanzibar).

Anyway, I must say easy is a lot of fun because your allies stay alive, or at least much longer. I was playing
Uprising, the mission where you lay the smack down on the Brutes as the Arbiter. You make your way up the mountain slashing Brutes with your sword before hooking up with other Elites. Inside was fun, I just went crazy with the Dual Wielding while they used their swords. But outside, o man. The first time I played on normal and it was only me in the Ghost. This time, it was me and 3 other Elites all in Ghosts. They were boosting and running over Brutes/Jackals like crazy, poor bastards never knew what hit them :lol
All this of course accompanied by one of Marty's fine tracks, awesome game.

On top of the bridge

This game sets a new benchmark for skyboxes btw, amazing stuff.

Am I the only one who thinks they ignored the stories from those books? I keep hearing people talk about things that happened in the books and relating it to the campaign story, but I think they completely ignored the books. And also, where's this idea coming from of Cortana betraying us? What does she have to gain by that? She's an AI program. She doesn't have a physical body. She can't be tortured or anything. If anything, she'll learn something useful from talking to that thing and apply the knowledge somehow in Halo 3.

I really don't see how people can say arbiter is cooler. Chief is so much more of a badass. Arbiter is a little pussy that got humiliated in front of a ton of covenant. Meanwhile Master Chief continues to bring the pain train to pussies and rides a bomb in motherfucking outer space. He also has cooler moments like "I won't", "Boo!". Also, when Johnson bangs on his little pod before they arrive on the new Halo and Master Chief bangs on it back; AWESOME.

Hell yeah. Arbiter is cool in his own way, but Chief is the ultimate badass. Dude dragged a bomb across the floor before riding it out in space onto another covie ship. Arguement over, Chief wins. :D

Because of 1) apparent deafness on my part and 2) strange audio mixing I didn't catch a specfic audio snippet...did anyone hear this fully;

During the Master Chief's 'stay ahead of the flood' level (second to last I think) he runs into a room, and the Prophet starts up again about how the 'parasite will never defeat the covenant, etc etc. Something that sounds like the Gravemind then cuts him off and starts talking about confinement. What did the Gravemind say?

Yup, unless your point blank, itll take a couple shots from the shotgun to kill you.
shotgun sucks ass when your a good distance from your opponent which is how it should be.
a shotgun is suppossed to be strong up close....thats the benefit of it.

every weapon has is benefits and short comings.

agreed. And you only get a one hit kill on a headshot and headshots on halo 2 especially with that S controller (no mouse and kb shit here) is not an easy thing to do.

peace

Apparently if you complete Halo 2 on Legendary there's a message in the credits that says "Coming February 9th". Can anyone confirm this? There's supposed to be a thread over on Bungie.net about it with some rampant speculations that Bungie pulled a "Tarantino" and developed Halo 2 & 3 back to back at the same time (Though I doubt it judging from the LE DVD) and the date could point to a release.

Just wanted to know if there's any thruth to the text as I doubt I'll be finishing Legendary anytime soon.

I think Pete Parson said in a recent interview that they simply couldn't start Halo 2 from the end of the third book, especially because it would have required to have multiple spartans in the game. In the 3rd book Cortana is getting more and more weird, if not borderline crazy after all the replication stuff, yet at the start of the game she seems totally sane.
I was disapointed when I realized the game's story had nothing to do with the 3rd book, I was really looking forward to see what Dr Halsey had in mind, if there would be some of these weird time/space warping devices in game, and of course playing with fellow spartans in some levels would have been really awesome. Ho well, hopefully Nylund will find some find to glue both stories in a future book.
