Just finished the game on Heroic. I remember a big spoiler from Tuesday Nov 9th when CNBC ran an story on the huge sales. They showed a scene from the game with
The Arbiter hugging either the Sarge or Miranda Keyes on Delta Halo
. Is this a scene that is played if you beat it on Legendary?

apparently nothing changes if you beat the game on legendary. are you sure you remember the cnbc clip accurately? there's a scene where the arbiter grabs and then headbutts sarge, but he never hugs anyone.

Oh, and you
play as the Arbiter for four levels and the MC for 11

actually you play as the master chief for eight levels, and the arbiter for six. the first "level" is just a cutscene/controls tutorial.

Really? Didn't seem like that many. I count a level as how they are broken down on the level select screen, even though the first one is pretty paltry.

Also, what is
Gravemind? The source of the Flood? Is the game's plot that the Forerunners were humans who became too advanced and created a biological weapon too powerful for its own good?

According to a poster at the halo.bungie.org forums, in "The Art of Halo" (halo/halo 2 art book), it says:
The Gravemind can be thought of as a cross between the Flood's logical evolution and a queen ant. The Gravemind is literally built from the [biomass] of its enemies and its own fallen warriors reassembled into a massive, tentacled, and intelligent entity, trapped somewhere in this new Halo.

Apparently, it also specifies that the Forerunners encountered the Flood, rather than creating them, along with a bunch of other interesting little tidbits...

On that last bit, watch the commentary on the levels found on the LE DVD. On the first Arbiter level (can't think of the name - Heretic?) they describe what the different section of the level actually are. The first part is a gas mine (where the canisters are being loaded by the Sentinals). They then move to the next section which was built after the Forerunner found the Flood. Interesting stuff. I hope we get a little more in Halo 3 (but just a little - I like the mystery of them).

This patch rules, matchmaking is like 10 times faster now.

Oh and is that sword (or whatever the weapon is called) bugged? These dash / one hit kills are so unbalanced an annoying. I saw one guy rack up like 25 kills with that thing where as everyone else had 3-4 kills. :\

It's powerful, but you can be taken down easily with one stuck plasma grenade or sustained fire from a distance.

matchmaking 10 times faster? i dunno about that

went to rumble pit, took over a minute and then i quit.

i think it's actually taking longer now :/

Really? I was doing big team matches all night last night and it was taking maybe 20-30 seconds... sometimes less. FOR 16 PLAYERS. :)

for reference, it was taking me around 2 minutes to do big team matches before...

NEVER rush them.

The key to kicking ass with the sword is to let people come to you. If someone is firing away at you and backing up, you probably won't be able to close the gap before dying.

I was playing a custom swords only game on Beaver Creek yesterday. I got behind someone, already filled with glee at what was going to happen, lunged and stuck that sword right between his butt cheeks. Things didn't go quite as planned though. His shields went down, he turned around, and killed me. WHAT THE FUCK SON OF A BITCH. I was ready to punch a hole in the wall before I realized he had an overshield. Owned :(

Do you take the Dark Dragon Blade to keep its elegance untouched, it's power, unused?

You have to admit, it's pretty funny seeing people go to the sword location over and over again and it's just not there :p

Im not a fan of the sword on certain maps.. I like it in more open maps, but when everything is packed in tight that thing is FAR to deadly in the right hands. Ive entered a hallway with 5 people in it and killed all of them in 10 seconds with that thing.. the fact that it doesnt run out of ammo in multiplayer is wickidly evil.

Now on a more open map (like the bonus one) the sword is perfectly blananced.. if you let someone get that close to you in that map, you deserve to die.

To be fair, it was worse when the game first came out, people have started to figure out how to kill a guy with a sword. Charging a guy with the sword drawn = monumentally bad idea. In head to head games where you are only focused on one guy this is even better.. in games with 16 people packed in like sardine cans, that thing is pure evil.

Move laterally. The sword is easily (well, relatively) dodged by lateral movements IF you avoid the temptation to move back at the same time. And if you HAVE the sword, you can stab people through that glass platform on Lockout. Which is super funny.

I've tried battling against a sword user with a shotgun but I always die. I'm too afraid to get close to them so my shotgun is ineffective :|

I hate playing sword slayer though, mostly because my analog sensitivty isn't suited for sword duels

head to head games are a joke, as soon as the other guy gets a one point lead, he goes hiding.

When a duder was up 2 to 1 on mid ship, I didn't see him for nearly three minutes, on midship!. Then i found him, killed him thrice, won, and then he called me a pussy.

Also, any of those smaller maps should be played with no motion detector. It should be off by default. It's silly to have that mixed into the equation when the map is so small you'll see someone in no time at all. You don't get a MD in any PC game where you'd play similar modes.

In three years of Halo, the motion detector was off for us from day one, even when we played tunneled games.

Now Bungie has it on in nearly every ranked game. We're just going to have to learn to live with it, if we care about rank that is

I actually got 3 kills last night doing this. If you time it right you can melee a sword weider during their lunge and beat them down. But timing has to be perfect.

Also, I have noticed something. A melee attack with an SMG does no where near the damage of a melee with a shot gun or a battler rifle.

Anyone else find this to be true?

if i've got the sword, i keep it hidden, and run around with a single smg. people take you for easy meat, and then you break out the sword. hee hee. it works at least a few times.

so moving backwards is a nono I should be moving side to side when I saw a sword guy coming at me?
Depends on range, if you're already inside lunge range when the combat starts, he's not going to let you out of range, so strafe.

If you are outside lunge range when you first see each other, back up. You keep the sword out of effective range and shoot him up.

Can you or can't you cancel the dash attack with a melee attack? Never did get a decisive answer on that.
Uncertain, I suspect that this theory is based upon hitting a weakened sword dasher with a melee and killing him. PLenty of times I've been blasted in the face with a shotty while dashing so you obviously have a vulnerable window. Bungie certainly could have put an instant kill melee in this window, but I really doubt it.

im having trouble hearing people when i play.. it hasnt happened on other games except halo2 ..

some games i dont hear a thing.. do peopel just not talk?

if your joining random games through matchmaking theres a good chance people just arent talking. the best way to test it is to be in an arranged game because in the lobby before the game starts you should be able to hear everyone. voice can be disabled through your profile settings but unless you changed it, its on by default set to mixed.

Speaking of demo flares... do the Grunts seem less funny this time around to anyone else? I'm not sure if it's because H1 was new, because H1 seemed to have less loud music and ambience (you could really hear who was round the corner and who'd you killed around that corner by bouncing a frag grenade around inside the Truth & Reconciliation and just listening to the yelps), or because they're just... not funny (notwithstanding some funny comments when you're the Arbiter).

And why do Elites sound like Yoda and Worf's illegitimate child? Why?! :(

I've actually laughed out loud a few times at Grunt chatter. Just last night after I died (Arbiter) a Grunt said "Ok that wasnt my fault. Seriously!". The timing of it was perfect.

The shotgun seems pretty fuckin random online...I'll put it right into someones chest at point blank and they don't die, meanwhile I'll be a good distance away from someone and the kill me with one shot -_-

Ugg.

That reminds me, I played a head to head on lockout I had been doing pretty well till this point, I still have 75% win ratio, but anyway I met this guy(?) on lockout.

THE SLOW DANCER

Dear lord. The SLOW DANCER. Pink guy with a loveheart icon. This was the closest I have come to reverting to 13 year old boy status and screaming insults at the guy. he got the sword first off and crouch walked the entire game. I figured that out and spent the entire time running around looking for him. Then I jumped off the level by accident.

WANKER.

It's more of a clean-up weapon. I like to use it in heavy fighting because no one has full charged shields and you can rack up some kills. However, mano y mano you'll get your ass kicked with the shotty because you'll need at least 2 shots, more likely 3, to kill an oppenent fully charged. It's just too slow for that unless you're really good at evasive meneuvers... I am not.

shotgun rules if you nab the flag and are running away with somebody chasing you, if you can turn around a corner and drop the flag and stand there, other guy comes running around the corner flat out, expecting to shoot you in the back, then, BLAMMO. Such a satisfying way to score.

Playing Delta Halo on Heroic, just before the final gondola ride. There's a battle going on and I'm fresh out of shield. I run to take cover behind one of the big rocks, right along a ledge with a terminal drop. As I make the turn to get behind the rock I see a red Elite waiting. Crap. I quickly toss a plasma at him and guess what, he casually leaps right off. Last words: "Demon, you will die." while falling :lol

Hoepfully they resolve this via playlist addition soon.

could not agree more, i fricken HATE it. so i edited my gametypes and turned it off on everything. only problem is i always have to host games using my custom gametypes which is only mildly annoying. but you're right for sure... having that stupid piece of shit on by default turns the games emphasis on to that little circle far far to much!
