Official Iwata Keynote Thread

Once the service begins later this year, Nintendo DS users will be able to connect to the service wirelessly at universal Wi-Fi hot spots in use all over the world. Nintendo's in-house development team is already creating Animal Crossing DS to support global Wi-Fi connectivity.

Oh god yes. I was so worried that a previous comment made it sound like there'd only be a hint toward the future online stuff for DS in Animal Crossing. But a global AC... It's really coming. That just rules so much. And the fact Rev's going to have built-in WiFi too? Just absolutely fantastic...

I guess they really didn't update the graphics after all? It still looks great though.

And it looks really dark too. Ghost zombies? WTF?

where the hell is that transcript already?

considering that i've known about the online for a long while now, i was much more itnerested in hearing Iwata's speech more than anything else.

What the hell? New Zelda's enemys are way under feed in term of polygons...
I'll take a slightly less-detailed Moblin over jerky framerates and flat environments any day of the week.

This is just the GC, after all...some sacrifices have to be made to produce something this amazing-looking.

And since Revolution is backwards compatible, that means that Rev isn't that revolutionary in terms of control (most likely), which is a tad disappointing.
If by "disappointing" you mean "relieving". Well, for some of us anyway. Many of us don't want Nintendo going crazy and alienating 95% of gamers with whacko control systems.

Come on EAD, where's that silky smooth animation from Wind Waker in this game? And what's with the so far bland environments? Looks ok otherwise though.

I hoped for more DS info and some screens, but online is fine for now.
Zelda trailer looks amazing. I don't know about the ghosts/ zombies...

Also... this topic has waaaaaayyyy more hits then the pinned offcial US PSP launch thread :lol

What about Resident Evil 4? The enemies were much nicer and realistic and it didn't had such an impact on the framerates as far as I remember...

A freaking boar. Link was riding a freaking boar. Awesome.

So what's the deal, we won't expect DS Online until Animal Crossing 3/4th Quarter? A bit disappointed about that.

Next gen graphics = check.

Online-enabled = check.

Free online = check.

IBM/ATI = check.

Backward Compatibility = check.

Haters = Owned.

Yeah...it looks all right...it also looks pretty much the same as the E3 build. I hope the music is indicative of actual in-game music. :P

DS Officially Online
Revolution Officially Wi-Fi out the box/BC with GC
ZELDA TRAILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...I need a damn cigarette and it's not even E3 yet :D

I am so in concurrance with you it might be considered laughable.

How many times the area does your average 3D Zelda game cover? Yeah... Man, this is EAD. Their last big game was Pikmin 2. They didn't magically start bump-mapping everything and given their characters a zillion polygons. You know this game is going to blow your mind, both graphically and gameplay-wise.

Now that we know that the revolution will be backwards compatible, does that mean that the storage medium would be similar to what the gamecube has?

I'm hoping not, because I reckon next generation games are going to require a lot of space.

I have a wifi router, I don't need to have ethernet cables conected to all devices, like with my xbox. Rev is... wireless so to speak.

I'd be a lot happier if someone mentioned Mario Kart DS had online 8 player. Everyone keeps mentioning the local 8-player LAN. Big whoop. I'm sure I'll pick up a DS sometime this year, now, but regardless, I'd like their online racing code to have the kinks ironed out by the time Revolution lauches (Or GB-E if that's an E3 surprise).

gee complain som more. The game looks good enough.

It's a lot darker than imagined, and I really really liked the music! Good stuff.

It's obvious that this is a teaser until E3. Nintendo still didn't reveal the HUD.

Yeah, I wish they would maybe of announced a stronger DS online line up, but E3 is more software oriented, so maybe they're saving it for that.

Hey, how can a console be carried to wif-fi spots? Did I miss something obvious?

Yes. Wireless home routers. And as it's likely free (if the DS is I don't see why Revolution won't be), paying a one off for one shouldn't be an annoyance.
