Official Iwata Keynote Thread

Remember kids, when sketchy details have been released, it only makes sense to assume the worst case scenario and jump off a bridge.

I hope Iwata doesn't get arresting for breaching the security of the internet :(

Whoever asked 'why do developers care about BC at a developers conference', in a manner to suggest that they DO NOT care. You should know that during the announcement (for revolution), a room full of developers cheered.

On another note. The codenames for the chips in revolution. Broadway, the capitial of Live entertainment. Hollywood, the capitial of movie entertainment. I think there maybe be some hidden meaning there. :P

very, very interesting..... hmmm.... also IBM develops its CPUs mostly on the East Coast, in NY State, also home to Broadway in NYC.

ATI's development of Hollywood, is probably being done mainly in California, at their west coast, Santa Clara design center. Hollywood is of course, in California.

Maybe I should of used quotes. Those were Iwata's exact words from the video I watched.

Is there another place to download this stuff? Good news! Can't wait to see this video. Too busy to catch up with breaking news. Would like another non streaming savable link.
Whatever happened to the GAF DC++ hub, again?

Well I'm more hopeful about Revolution now.

Firstly backwards-compatibility means that it isn't going to be some Virtual-Boy style jump into unknown territory. And that it's still going to be a traditional console than connects to a TV.

Secondly wifi out the box implies that it will be online, and the DS plans reinforce that. Personally I think Revolution will have a wireless router built in, so as well as getting online itself it will also act as a wireless gateway for the DS. So by buying a Revolution people would also be taking their DS online at the same time.

If the Broadway/Hollywood names are more than just geographical, I'd say it's about connecting performance (Broadway) with onscreen action (Hollywood). Which would tie in with Nintendo's desire to give people new ways of interacting with games - so something like gyroscopic controllers and/or Eyetoy sounds likely.

Roll on E3.

I hope someone starts one up again for E3 this year. It was really cool last year.

Unless I can figure out a way to get to E3... then I don't care :)

Yes, a DC++ hub would be very nice. Who set that up last time?

I started it last year (maybe the year before too). I had a deciated PC to host the hub at the time. I can try to host it this year, do not know how resource heavy it will be.

what about the little (or not so little :P) media site you guys put up last year?

All I remember is that it exceeded something like 800gigabytes of bandwith within 4 days. :lol

you hit the nail right on the head, I believe. 9 weeks away. more or less.

My favorite part of the whole trailer is where Link is riding the warthog with the lightning in the distance.
Same here! The way the lightning is flashing in the background and the rain just keeps pouring makes the whole scene all the more dramatic. Then you see Link ride in on those huge boar and he mows down a group of enemies. Absolutely classic.

The wolf/moon thing is what really gets to me.

And I dug that flourish/sheathe animation when he defeated that shadowery creature.

Lets just hope he doesn't do that flourish everytime he defeats a group of enemies ala Sands of Time. Maybe it is the animation for when you press the button to sheate your weapon.

Most likely. I think the auto-sheathe is gonna be instant, regardless.

Yeah. I don't think it will hinder the gameplay at all. In SoT, the game cut to an in-game cutscene that completely detracted from everything. This seems better and it is a nice indication of when you can move on.

Please don't mention SoT in this thread. That was a good game, but recollection of SoT recalls Warrior Within, and that STILL makes me flinch. :lol

Yeah, same here. Mentionining Warrior Within and LOZ in the same thread should be considered blasphemous. It is a crying shame. The second I heard the prince yell "Next!" while I was playing Warrior Within, I knew all hope had been lost. :lol

I (almost) gave up at "You Bitch!"

But it was the animalistic, sexually-frustrated grunts he gave out (whilst smashing barrels) that finally did it for me.

Please don't remind me. Those were horribly irritating. :lol

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but it looks like Link has a deflecting attack when fighting off the two Stalfos towards the end. Discuss. SO SORRY IF OLD LOCK BAN FLOG! etc.

Since not everybody can be a Miyamoto, we discovered that ideas can come from several team members, building on each other, to make something superior to what one person could invent. Then we worked with the Famous Japanese creator Shigesato Itoi, who was already an avid gamer himself, to develop his first idea for a game. That series, called Mother in Japan and released in America as Earthbound, proved to us that ideas take on a special appeal when they become interactive.

YES IT DOES HAVE A SPECIAL APPEAL NOW PLZ RELEASE EARTHBOUND 3 PLZ AND I WONT BEAT YOU.

this Zelda trailer that was shown today (yesterday now actually), was it:

*a shortened version of the original extended trailer shown last year to the gaming press?

*the entire part of the extended trailer that we did not see ?

*new trailer ?

*mix of extended trailer and new footage ?

OK Security Breach was the wrong term. How about this.

Claiming people wont have to put in SSID or WEP is Bullshit. How about that. Claiming something as special when it is already the way the technology works is Bullshit.

In their homes, they do not have to put in SSID or WEP if they don't want to. default on most equipment is OFF. So you pick your network name and you are on. Nice and easy.

I know you can put the security options back on, and are probably wise to, but maybe Nintendo want to debunk some of the myths of wifi being complicated. It can be, but doesn't have to be.

FWIW, I don't have WEP on my wireless network. I use MAC filtering only to allow trusted devices on, and switch BSSID off. Secure enough for me.

MAC spoofing is pretty easy, perhaps something to keep in mind.

really? How do you MAC spoof if there are only three devices with specific codes allowed on my network? Woudnl't you have to try and connect with all possible combinations?

Realistically though - its probably enough for my home, right?

I'm thinking they'll let people do this, using Revolution as an access point. Other types of access point will require you to put in that info.

It'd be nice if Revolution came with a little dongle to plug into your router or a usb port that'll automatically set up everything in terms of its wireless connection (if that's feasible)...

New trailer, with 4 seconds of old material at the very beginning

Doesnt the DS have built-in wireles security measures?...im sure there were stories about this months ago.
they all seem to forget that this is GAF after all we gottah bicth about something even before we know all the facts connected to it.

I will wait until E3

It has to be old footage. The animation is awkward at best. Link seems to turn on a dime and go into insta-run... Wind Waker wasn't like that. It was much more natural.

It just doesn't look like a completed Zelda title... It looks early.

Don't forget that the HUD isn't visible in these movies, and that they have weird camera locations because it's a trailer. I don't think you'll notice that much when you play it.

I thought Iwata-san's whole conference was very well done. Some very good bits of info and the new zelda trailer was excellent....although lackiing in enemy detail and character animation, but im thinking the animation atleast is more placeholder sequences.

thought the Elektroplankton demo was really cool, showed my girlfriend that and the Nintendogs stuff and she's wants me to buy a DS now.

We're both big Zelda fans and eagerly await more info on it and Revolution at E3. it's gonna be great.

On a side note though i thought J Allard's keynote was pretty damn boring, ended up just playing GT4 on mute and listening to most of the video which itself didn't hold much more than marketing drivel unfortunately.

thanks for the reply !

Was more like 2 seconds of old footage. Remember in the first trailer, how it ended with Link looking straight at the camera with his "bad ass" expression and flourishing/sheathing his sword?

This trailer BEGINS with that scene, and continues onward, all of it beyond that brand new material.

Will the new Zelda game really look that bland or is the contrast of the video just totally fucked?
go look at any of the direct feed screenshots. its a lot to do with bad quicktime encoding, at least on the video i got from IGN.
Bacon said:
same goes for that as well. it's just the result of IGN re-compressing the images to make the smaller. both increase in artifacts and decrease in color saturation. its not a "doctored" shot or anything like that, just poor compression results.
