Quick question:
Did you clear the forest before you got the amulet and fixed the dam? Of can you do the forest after?

Just trying to figure out in which order to do this stuff.

You will NEED to do both (well, whether you fix or don't fix the dam, is up to you ;)) so don't worry about the order.

I actually cleared the forest after closing the dam. I wouldn't worry about the order.

For those at Tien's Landing: How did you resolve the Baker Bei crap? I just pretty much
let them kill one another, then I mopped up the rest of the opposition and stole their stuff, with no evil points gained :)

You close fisted bastard you!

I convinced Ai Ling that she was being childish, which allowed Bei and Lan to marry. Then I convinced someone else to marry Ai Ling.

haha... I'm actually playing Open Hand now. But it's really up to you when the moment comes, to make a choice.

I also did what you mentioned in the spoiler.

Just finished it. The pace of the game changes drastically after chapter 3. 4, 5, 6 and 7 are nearly entirely focused on action, there's almost no questing at all. It's just one big linear rollercoaster ride with epic battle after epic battle. I thought it was great though. It was only like 15 hours but at the end it felt like I had been playing for ages.

Great soundtrack too. I love the main theme.

I just recognized the
syrem puzzle from KOTOR when getting that Three Sheets guy drunk. This is only the second Bioware game that I've played and already I've seen a gameplay staple.

Cool game, way short though.

Make sure you listen to the whole credits when you finish it, they are hilarious.

Can anyone clue me in on Techniques? If a certain technique adds +5 Focus, then why do I not see it reflected in my stats screen? Or must I say "equip" these techniques? Also, I just defeated the bandits but are the +3,-1 techniques worth buying from Smiling Mountain?

Where do you live, BTW? It wouldn't happen to be in Atlanta, would it? (There's a Circuit City and Best Buy right down the road from each other and the mall is also there) If so, just go to the Perimeter Mall EBgames. They should still have some copies left.

I live up in Michigan. The Circuit City/Best Buy combo is in Westland up here. Thanks for answering my question, btw. :) I am now the proud owner of one limited edition of an extremely kickass game thanks to Gamestop.

Hah that screwed me up too. +5 to FOCUS isn't the same thing as +5 to Mind. Focus is the number of focus points you have while Mind is your basic attribute. You're definetly getting +5 to Focus it's just that you have over a hundred focus points anyway.

Or must I say "equip" these techniques? Also, I just defeated the bandits but are the +3,-1 techniques worth buying from Smiling Mountain?

No equipping. the +3 -1 techniques are pretty worthless unless you're building a very sepcific kind of character. You get much better techniques just in Chapter 2 anyway.

Yeah, I figured out the technique thing. Kind of confusing at first. And I'm about to reach Tien's Landing. This game is rocking so far.

Is it worth it to invest style points in my early styles? Or should I save them for later more powerful styles? I currently have all of my style points saved though, just in case.

so i walked into blockbuster and 30 seconds later i left with jade empire in a bag... with $60 missing from my bankaccount i just blacked out or something

will give impressions when i start playing ;)

i've been playing this game for a couple of days now... the combat is really kind of interesting, but not what i was expecting... it seems to be more about resource management than action game twitch skill. It's like the strategic combat you find in turn based rpg's only you have to do the moves yourself. when you attack or block, it feels like the character is responding to a command, rather than preforming as an extension of your hand... There isn't a real sense of direct character control and everything is much slower paced than i expected. i'm really enjoying it though... It can get pretty hectic and even though you can get by with button mashing, it pays to use some strategy... i imagine on the higher difficulty it would be even more engaging.

It's also a great looking game. I never really expected it to be this beautifull. the environments are awe-inspiring. Way more interesting to look at than anything in KOTOR on an artistic level and on a technical level it blows kotor away.

very impressed with this game so far.

I wasn't feeling this game the way I expected to at first. Suddenly I'm addicted. I have addiction/love for it. KOTOR levels of love. It's fantastic.

I went out and bought it yesterday and have been toolin' around with it. I've made it to the second chapter but I'm still having trouble getting into the story. It's just not clicking with me. I love the combat, the voice acting is fantastic, and the graphics are a huge step up from KOTOR but I'm having a hard time getting into the flow of a Chinese mythological setting. Still, I'm only in the second chapter so maybe things will get better. Time to go get the amulet out of the ruins.

BTW, the part where you have to find a husband for the leader of the gang in the boathouse literally had me laughing out loud. Trying to set her up with that fat hick was pretty damn funny, imo.

I find the story awesome. I appreciate it mainly because its very different than anything else in an RPG, but not overly complicated.

So how is everybody levelling up their characters? I went with Lu the Prodigy, the balanced male character. I've kind of stopped levelling up spirit for a little while, simply because of the awesome Spirit Thief style that lets you refuel your chi in battle. Upping body and mind makes you a badass in combat.

Also, I have about 8 or 9 different styles now, but I'm pretty much only using 3 most of the time- my main martial arts style, my long sword, and Spirit Thief to refuel my Chi. Anyone pulling off any Harmonic combos?

It seems like Bioware put just as much effort into the story this time around as they did the combat and customization in KOTOR. Even though the battles can be fun and dynamic, I find myself wanting to listen to the conversations more in Jade Empire.

I've had my french PAL review copy 2 days ago and I'm about 9 hours in the game, just arrived in
the imperial city
. For people who already finished the game, how far am I from the ending?
I play this game on easy because it makes the whole experience lots more "shenmue-like". I get mostly anywhere I want without worrying about the fights, and just focus on enjoying the story and playing all the side quests I can find. I love this game :)

Kang the Mad
is definitely the best character since HK-47...funny shit! Wish I knew who's voice that is for him...sounds familiar. Anyway, pulling off harmonic combos is necessary...I love softening them up with Leaping Tiger, then going into Heavenly Wave and slowing them down with normal attacks, and finally jumping back to throw a strong wave attack to go back into Legendary Strike and blowing them to little red pieces. Fun shit. This game is far better-written than anything Bioware's ever done...and I'm loving it more than KotOR 1 now. I sure hope that this title does well enough to warrant a sequel in the same universe...

He, funny you said that because this character is done by the "official" Christopher Lloyd voice actor here in France. Getting Back to the Future Doc's voice for this character is just as perfect as it could ever be :)

Storm Dragon is OVERPOWERED.

Really all you have to do to take out any enemy that isn't immune to Support attacks is hit 'em with Storm Dragon and then switch to any other style and then hit 'em with Storm Dragon again, it's like an infinite juggle that's brain dead easy to pull off. Doesn't work to well when you're being ganged up on but it's a guaranteed kill in a one on one situation. Especially since you can switch to spirit thief and build up your whole Chi bar using this tactic.

Also if the enemeis can be Harmonic comboed then all you have to do is Punch once with Storm Dragon to freeze them, do the area attack, then walk up and use whatever martial skill you want to destroy them. This works great in crowds as well since the area attack freezes everybody in the vicinity as well as setting up the one hit kill.

JOHN CLEESE!

Sir Roderick is simply awesome, so is the entire scenario with him. After you beat him you also get his rifle Mirabelle (it's an option out of the several rewards)! With that weapon handy it makes fights much more entertaining.

Before I try and order the limited edition from guture shop, how long is this game? If I loved KOTOR, I will probably like this right?

It's supposed to be shorter than KotOR. But really, how long depends on how much time you spend going through sub-quests and reading stuff, like any RPG. Definitely seems more replayable than KotOR, though. Certainly, worth it so far, IMO.

Ice Shard Harmonic Combo = PWN

Wow... I just cleared an area with 4 lotus assassins in about a minute. 4 Ice Shard Harmonic Combos = 4 1-hit kills (well, ok, 2 hit counting the ice shard.)

If I can find out the answer without knowing any major spoiler, can someone tell me the symbology between the areas you travel and those monkeys that are always there? They always seem to be seen on your path to and from danger.

The monkeys are always around danger. Maybe they are evil?!

I'm in the same boat... I'm on Chapter 6 & there's been only 1 battle that required me to use a transformation. The combat system here is fun, but it is definitely more an action game than an RPG to me... and as an action game it ain't that hot. In fact, the things that annoy me about JE are the typical Bioware trademarks like the questing and dialogue, since those just break up the flow of the combat and remind me too much of past Bioware games.

It definitely improves at Chapter 4, but I have no idea what IGN was smoking when they gave this 9.9. :lol

I'm on chapter 3 right now, and I use my heavenly sword attack almost exclusively. If I'm not using my sword I'm using my thousand cuts fist attack. My focus and spirit levels are really high I haven't even had a need to go into focus mode much or use my chi. I got my fireball attack handy if I need it.

I have something like 80 style points stockpiled just in case I need to invest in anything beyond Thousand Cuts and the first Sword attack.

Hasn't happened yet. :lol

Yeah I'm starting to stockpile some too.

The only thing in this game that bothers me are all the loading points. Hell, with all the loading time in this game it could be on PSP! And then I could put it in sleep mode! :D

the biggest flaw i see in this game is that the difficulty doesn't really pressure you to use the advanced features of the combat system, at least not on normal. i'm definitly going to try to replay it on the harder difficulty and see if it makes difference. i'm still loving it though. i don't think it's a 9.9 game, but mid 9's (9.4 - 9.6) seems about right. i'm liking it better than kotor... really reminds me of shenmue.
