Official Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Thread

I wonder what happened to the Vice City dude. There was also a trailer where snake sniped at some guys inside a cabin from the hill (killed a dude by shooting through a window) that wasn't in the game either. I guess they were there just for the trailer. I may need to replay this again too because I missed a ton of stuff. Did you know if you let the stamina guage go down during the boss fights that you get an extra camo suit?

Necro did you pick up the sniper rifle? Use the map and the sniper rifle.

Directional microphone and thermal goggles are your friend

Actually, there is an area where snake can snipe some people inside a cabin. Its in one of the optional base areas before the fight with the End. I recreated the scene where snake took out a guy inside the cabin and a guy outside the cabin with one bullet :D

The environments are really some of the most beautifully designed I've ever seen in a videogame. My jaw has literally dropped at a couple points (
seeing two semi-lit small waterfalls in the pitch black caves or exiting the caves into dusk and the river with the tree canopy above
).

:lol

-edit-

Btw, I really like the fact that I have a bat in one of my cages. It makes me proud for some reason. I'm not sure that I'll ever eat it, though I guess I could throw it at an enemy. That would rock.

I'm also not sure if it happens either way but when I defeated
Volgin
and
The Boss
using the tranq gun I got a camo suit from them both.

Waiting until next weekend to play this sucks. At least I've got the demo for the time being.

Yes... the sniper rifle in a cabin on the left side of the area where you fight him. You could probably kill him without it though if you wait long enough. I was running around trying to get him to shoot me (the area is so large so you have to look for each other sometimes) and I stopped for a second to kill a rabbit. When I finished killing it I heard some hard breathing and his voice so I turned around thinking maybe he was in the hills when instead he was behind me and proceeded to blast me with a shotgun (could have been that rifle of his... either way my blood sprayed on to a tree)! He ran off after that... LOL He's in the high areas 99% of the time but comes down every once in a while.

I just beated The End... 3 hours... of FUN!

My impressions about the game are as I expected them: generally positive. Although, you can hear the disc "searching" for information at certain times (
like when using the microphone to get an idea where The End is located
, or simply before each codec conversations). The framerate isn't consistent, especially when the weather changes, but I agree with the decision to choose beauty over technicality in that case...

IMO, the game as much more cutscenes than it's predecessor (at least at the beginning of the game). Not that its bothering me... Am I alone noticing?

The boss said she and The Sorrow gave a birth to a baby on the battlefield. I immediately though of Raiden, but that wouldn't make sense because he's so young in MGS2.

we have speculated that
it's psycho mantis.

Anyone know if there's any recorded mp3s of the music (besides the sampler CD)? I really want a mp3 of the end credits song

Did not Psycho Mantis say that he killed his parents (or was it only his father that he killed ?) just like Solid Snake did (well, he killed Big Boss... his father) ?

Just kill The End, thanks for the tips about thermal goggle. I think it is pretty much essential if u don't want to fight this old bastard for 3 hrs.

OK im so pissed....

I was on the phone when.....

Granin was explaning the Philosopher Legcacy, what the fuck was he sayin??

Why there hasnt been a penny arcade of the the lame use of the codec. The should show snake sitting behind a box and saying" Oh hey Colonol, how are you feeling today, Thats great. Oh hey Naomi, you are there too? You are so cute" All while some guards stare down at him, pointing there guns at him while he continues to chatter on. I am all for a good story but I have about reached my limits to this mindless codec soap box babel.

Wario -
the Way to Fall track by Starsailor is from their album from a few years back, so is probably out there somewhere.
Anyone know if the Snake Eater theme it self can be downloaded anywhere.

As for The Sorrow unlocking your cell, it played out different for me. I played dead and the guard checked on me and then left the door open. Then I resusitated and sneaked away.

The codec convos are all about adding a bit of fun to all the dramatic stuff within the game. I think it's great and it's not like you have to hear them. Zero barely sends messages in the game. In fact the only time you really have to bother with them is when saving and you can skip them.

Anyone know if the OST has the song from the first MGS 3 trailer? Here is the midi: http://pszone.headoff.com//gamesmusic/metal_gear_solid_3/E32003_1.mid

I thought that was going to be the theme when the game was first announced.

Allright guys HUGE easter egg:

I saved after being in prison in grozny grav, reloaded my game and instead of MGS 3 some kind of Devil May Cry like game started. Black and White, character looks female, has two swords and has like a berserk transformation, its pretty awesome so far.

now how do I get back to the actual game???

edit: ok automatically went back to the game, its apparently a nightmare of Snakes!

Did anybody think it was weird...

seeing polygonal characters getting it on?

It got even weirder when my mom walked in on that scene. :lol

It should be since I recall hearing it in the game along with the peice of music that accompanied that track in the E3 2K3 trailer. I also have an MP3 version of that track too encoded at 128kbs.

Anyways, playing through the game again and already finding items I missed the first time through like the Croc Cap :D

Awesome :) I need to find that song... Btw I wasn't too crazy about the "tree frog" song but the game made me love it because it would pop up a lot during the cool scenes in the game.

The Fury>> When you get to fight him run up towards the door in the area and dress up in the suit that hides you the most and then snipe his head repeatedly. I beat him without losing health.

Just went to look at this - it's a fucking brilliant touch. If anyone wants to trigger this, make sure you save once you're in that room. Or, if you've played the game you can get it if you have been making separate saves every time (as I have). You need to find the file on your memory card with the red bouqet of flowers and make sure its the most recent (i.e. move/delete the others numerically after that.) then load up.

Guess you haven't played much of MGS3, as there are so few codec scenes in the game that I have nearly forgotten that it exists. I've played about 7 hours so far, and outside of the first hour, the "codec" has been pretty silent.

Thanks.
Didn't realize they used a song that wasn't made for the game. Surpisingly it fits the game though

BTW, anyone happen to have the leaked script somewhere? I want to see if they've changed anything from the final version

I just beat the Fear.

lmao @ (camo spoiler...from before Fear)
the geisha girl face camo. Hahaha. Reminds me of Hesch from Sea Lab.

When/where do I get the croc hat? I held up some guard and he told me about an island in the swamp, but I am way past that....hopefully I didnt miss it permanately.

Wow, I'm slow. I just finished the opening "mission" and I was curious as to what % of the game was (This was my third save after all)....Right before I go and find that out (at classy Gamefaqs no doubt), the opening titles roll. :lol :lol

towards the left side of the swamp, there's a log you can swim under. this will lead to an area of dry land, where there's a tree you can climb, with a rope attached to one of the branches. hang on the branch, and then shimmy along the rope until you're right above another rope. drop, and press the action button as you fall to grab the lower rope. that rope will lead you to the croc hat. i don't know if you'll get the chance to go back there, though.

some of the guards tell you about really neat stuff when you interrogate them. beats the hell out of dogtags.

How do I use the Fake Death Pill properly? As soon as I use it, I die, and I don't get a chance to use the Revival Pill.

It's great for killing yourself when you've got a dozen guards on you, though.

The script wasn't leaked though was it? I have the leaked casting call and a few of the sample sides from Showfax but that's about it. Here's the casting call that wraps up some mysteries including

The dialogue in the sample sides is exactly the same as they are in the finished game so no need to post them I guess.

Just finished the entire
Motorcycle Chase and Shagohod battle

Holy fucking shit, this game is amazing in every sense of the word.

I just have one question. When were the philosophers created? i beat this late at night so maybe i didnt hear right, but i thought they said they were created before the world wars. However, that doesnt explain mgs2's list where all the members died over 200 years ago.

See, I even thought of that briefly for a moment, but... 'nah, that would be retardedly unnecessary'. I should have then considered that the crazy drunkard Kojima is behind the game.

Did the members die over 200 years ago? I haven't played MGS2 in over 12 months but I thought it was 100 years? If so then it probably meant the Philosopher's were set up sometime in 1912-1920, somewhere around there since The Boss is in her Early 40s by 1964 and her father was one of the members of the Wisemen Committee before she was born or at least at an early age. Of course, if it was 200 years ago that they died then I have no idea, perhaps the Philosophers do go back that long..

Edit: I double checked the ending of MGS2 and as a result...
It turns out it was roughly 100 years ago that the original members of the Wisemen Committee died. This probably falls within the same members referred to in MGS3 including The Boss's father. I guess you'd have to speculate when they were formed but it wasn't too far back from the original date I assumed.

hmm, i thought it was 200 years, but now im not exactly sure. Like you, i havent played mgs2 in over a year. I was just curious because after i beat the game i read the story spoiler in the mgs.org review and the reviewer stated that

Before World War 1 and World War 2, there existed a powerful group called The Philosophers. They were a group of world leaders who worked together to settle differences in secret meetings and conduct world affairs. They decided the fate of the mankind to an extent. But when their members began dying, the countries grew apart and world wars started. Due to the loss of there power the world is almost chaotic with all these wars and almost the start of a new world war.

that makes it seems like the philosophers were created well before the world wars. However, i do not remember anyone saying that in mgs3. I thought that the Wisemans council was created due to the world wars. So im just wondering if i missed something or is the reviewer wrong?

There seem to be hidden frequencies on the codec. Maybe it was already posted, but I'm not going to bother treading through potential spoilers to find it.

I found this one, though by accident. Dunno if there's a way to figure it out normally, maybe from a guard:

145.83: It plays a really "beachy" 60s song called Salty Catfish by the 66 Boys

The weird thing is that once I found it, it put it in the 6th codec slot under HEALING RADIO. There seem to be 7 other songs. Maybe they help you heal faster if you listen to them?

about the secret radio...

hold up the guards and interrogate them. They will tell you about some secret frequencies. I got one for a fire support, but when I called it, I got no response. I also have one Healing Music. I assume it works similar to turning the game off and letting Snake "sleep".

No dogtags.

You can download camos if you've got a Network Adaptor.
