Scott "I have an ERA of about 7" Baker seemed to handle the Yankees fine both times he faced them this season. While the Twins rotation behind Santana scares the shit out of me (barring Radke's arm being reattached/replaced with a robot arm), some of those guys can pitch fine.

With the roster the Yankees have they should've won about 200 games by now.

With the way our pitching staff is rolling, and given our performance last postseason...I'd hold off on talking large.

Especially since your bullpen is pretty shaky, and the White Sox beat Mo all around the ****ing park this season. I'll take our chances against Villone/Proctor/Farns/Lidle
 
Matt Garza did alright today, but i don't know if you can count on a September call-up come playoff time. To be honest, i wouldn't have been THAT comfortable with Liriano in the playoffs. It can be a tough adjustment for young guys. Still losing him is huge.
 
I think the twins will be fine pitching wise.

Boof Bonser has been pitching really well lately and Silva has started to throw well again.

Garza did look good tonight, but the A's did hit his pitches pretty hard...

I really doubt that Radke will be a factor this season, but who knows

I think we will make it into the playoffs, but without Liriano are chances to go far have lowered quite a bit though i still feel that we have a pretty good chance to get to the world series.

Oh, i forgot to mention. The Twins still have the best bullpen in the bigs.

maybe its because he's a piece of shit who cheated and is trying to break the record of one of the most genuine and likeable guys in baseball history? There's nothing revisionist about it.
 
Trying? Unless he's not playing next year, he's gonna break the record. Put him in the AL and he will destroy it in a half-decent lineup..

Bonds hitting home runs then stopping to admire them wouldn't sit too well with A.L pitchers. You simply don't come from another league and bring that type old grand standing baggage with you without paying consequences. That wouldn't fly at all over there. I can think of a few teams would try to end his career real fast. The N.L. respects him and puts up with his shit because he started out there and made a name for himself so its a given. In the A.L. they could give a damn about old mellon head though.

That automatically makes this statement wrong. The only truly incredible years he ever had were his steroid years. His other years were great, but not "best power-hitter ever" type years. Guys like Pujols, Arod, and Ken Griffey had better numbers off the juice than Barry's ever had off it. And factor in all-time, forget it. Then take into consideration everything negative he's done to effect the sport, and ruining the record books with this bullshit. **** that.

What does "roids or no roids" even mean btw? You're not actually saying with no roids he's still the best power hitter ever? Before the jump, it wasn't even a consideration.
 
So instead of studying for my financial accounting final Ive broken our AL east clinch down. Here are the following situations:

Best case scenario: 12.5 games going into series w/Boston

Friday: win
Saturday(afternoon): win
Saturday(evening): clinch Al East title

11.5 games going into series w/Boston

Friday: win
Saturday(afternoon): win
Saturday(evening): clinch AL East title

10.5 games going into series w/Boston

Friday: win
Saturday(afternoon): win
Saturday(evening): win
Sunday: clinch AL East title

Personally I hope we clinch it on a Saturday..but I dont think were going to clinch it until maybe Tuesday or Wednesday

I'm still very annoyed by what happened to Liriano. Why bring him back in the regular season at all? Then again I think to myself that the MLB has some of the best trainers and doctors around, what the **** do I know about an anterior ulner ligament or whatever.

Just sucks tho, the kid was really going to be something special. He would have had a legit shot at winning the Cy Young and rookie of the year awards. Being a Dominican born guy made it that much better to watch him play. Hopefully he can come back at 100% without needing Tommy John surgery, I'd hate to wait another year for him to own the league.

Also: Yanks to world series? Magic 8-Ball says "Highly likely, Mother ****er!"

I think if Penny can win another start or two and lower his ERA by a few tenths of a point, he's got a legitimate shot at the CY if the Dodgers win the West. Carpenter or Webb are probably most deserving, but Webb has really fallen off and Carpenter is a few wins back which could prevent him from getting it -- although as the incumbent, he might get a few extra votes from that alone.

Lots of pitchers give up 10 runs in a game. (It's happened 14 times just this year, in fact.) But as loyal reader Jonathan Peck observed, not many do it the way Detroit's Nate Robertson did, Aug. 24, against the White Sox:

6 2/3 IP, 9 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 3 HR

So what made this so tricky? He allowed 11 baserunners -- and 10 of them turned into earned runs. You might see that happen in a start that lasts two innings. But you almost never see it when a pitcher works into the seventh inning.

In fact, Robertson was just the third pitcher in the last 37 seasons to make it through even six innings and turn 11 baserunners into 10 earned runs. The others, according to Retrosheet's Dave Smith, were Pedro Astacio, on July 13, 2000 (6 IP, 8 hits, 3 BB, 10 ER), and Russ Ortiz, on May 21, 2000 (6 2/3 IP, 8 H, 3 BB, 10 ER).

Apparently there is no new structural damage in his elbow and he is projected to be ready to go before spring training.

I'm really not buying that "inside" source. They thought he was completely healthy yesterday. He hears a pop and there's no structural damage? I kinda find that hard to believe.
