WOO! JD with his first big hit in god knows how long. 5-2 Dodgers. :D

Holy shit.. you CANNOT be serious Tomko. Nice to see that Grady kept him in after giving up hits to 3 of 4 batters. WORST ****ING MANAGER EVER!

Let's just hope the Padres dont mess around in the upcoming 4 game series and sweep the Dodgers to finish the job. 2-4 Against the Brewers and Cubs isnt gonna get it done on a road trip running up to a series with the Padres. Nice! Real Nice! =X

I'M BACK BABY!!!

Lost the Internet at home Tuesday, sucks but I'll live... if not only to win the posting battle over Evil Solrac. :)

10 more wins until Mets hit 100 on their "Eliminate other teams' playoff hopes" trip. First they took 2/3 from the Braves, hurting Atlanta's WC hopes. Then they dealt the Marrlllllll-fish two crushing losses. Tomorrow the Mets clinch on the field their first division titie since 1986. They better have the Cubs/Mets 1986 clincher on SNY so I can rewatch the Dave Magadan love fest and witness a young Rafael Palmeiro. But most of all, I can listen to the sacred call...

"Ground ball to second! Backman . . . to Hernandez! The . . . unbelievable season is not over . . . but the championship is here in New York!"

oh yeah
What is wrong with Liriano?

"The MRI came back exactly the same as the previous one," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Thursday. "He has a ligament strain, but there is no structural damage. That's the good news.

"Now we have to find out why he's having pain. We're not going to mess around with his future."

Chacin and Burnett had the same problem, we just rested them for a long time and now they both are fine, hopefully it is the same for Liriano.

Rodrigo Lopez, how the mighty have fallen.

At first I figured you were posting that cos it was Robinson Cano with part of the Cano-n ad in the background.. then I realized it was just Jeter and there wasnt any reason to post it other than his chimpunk-like expression.

Yankees not renewing with the Clippers and instead signing with Scranton. Word is the White Sox are the best shot to grab them :)

Give us your prospects, Yankees!

White Sox gonna get pwned tonight!

I think the Dodgers season rests on tonight. If we lose, it's over -- I fully expect an absolute nosedive. If we win, there's still a slim hope and maybe we'll grow some ****ing balls and our pitching will shore up. I hope Grady Little gets fired this offseason either way.

that's not confirmed. yanks are just looking around to see if they can have their triple-A team a little closer than columbus. although i would miss the immortal "columbus shuttle" expression. and as we wind down the year, i would like to look back over this thread and pick out the top ten bets moments. i'm not sure how we'd do it, would it be the top ten best days, best games that we posted at the same time? we need to memorialize this season and the thread of course.

Jeez, talk about a streaky team in that Sporting News Fantasy Baseball Challenge. :lol

The look on Pedro's face was really bad....I really felt for him. Sad to see him in such bad shape right now (both mental and physical).

Edit: On unrelated note, I took a 4 week vacation to Europe and just saw Milledge for the first time. Did he get bigger or what? His thighs are much bigger then I remember.

When I saw that in my new ESPN the Magazine issue I knew it would make an appearance in this thread in the near future.

Anyways-- too easy. :lol

i just thought it was funny that his pants are so huge. Hey there's room for Konex in there.

Well so much for clinching tonight I'd rather have the mets do it on their own,let the Phills win i say. Pedro looked like he was gonna cry there. The dude is obviously frustrated with himself. Certainly not what we exected but I'd rather have him go through this now before the post season rolls around. He just looked rusty tonight.

Mets still don't slam the door shut on lefties once again. Willie had better do something about this otherwise were gonna have teams stock piling them again us come October. Even the lowly Pirates are doing this against us this weekend.

Wright isn't killing the lefties like he did early in the season, and it's hurting us. Milledge had a great at bat tonight, I'm really high on him right now. I think Willy set him straight. The other night against the Marlins, Milledge was really into the game. Cheering, clapping, greating guys at the top of the step, all that and he had a good day in the field & plate. I really like his attitude, he seems like a different guy than the one I saw in June/July.

This Pedro incident is going to hang over the team until his next start. Talk radio is already all over it, the papers will be hammering it home on the back pages, and SNY hasn't stopped talking about it since the game ended. I hate having this negativity hang over the club just before the playoffs.

P.S. Sean Green looks lost at the plate.

Edit: Angelus, I love your Avatar.

Wow, that one's gotta be a little disconcerting for the Met fans going into the playoffs. Pedro's had what.....2 good starts since the end of May?

Papelbon going to the rotation next year is bad for the Braves......real bad. The Red Sox are now in the market for a closer and Wickman will undoubtedly be on their short list. Its safe to say that the Red Sox will outbid the Braves for his services. I just hope that playing for Bobby is enough to keep Wickman around.

LJ11..Milledge looks like a changed guy. I guess Willie,Charlie manuel, and Alomar's influence may be getting through to him now. "Play the game." Those sweet catches he made in Floria the other night were also good to see. I do think he needs more patience at the plate though,he s always landing himself in 0-2 holes but thats to be expeted with a young rookie so its a waiting game at this point. Reyes had the same problems when e first came up,now look at the guy.

Wright has seriously cooled off. Hae has somethging like 3 homeruns since the break, his rbo numbers are still good though. But I'm not sure what the problem is,I mean how many times have we seen him just missed homers in the 2nd half? I can count close to 10 right now. I guess its the stretch run,he plays alot and I doubt he would ever tell Willie he's filling tired. Still though-batting in that lineup should give him great pitches to hit,you gotta be concerned that his power numbers are down so much lately.

Shawn Green I don't expect too much from. He'll be a doubles guy and an adequte fielder, thats all I ask. I'd still rather have Nady back,I hate that the guy is gonna have to watch the Mets clinch this weekend,he deserves better. You can see he is miserable though, his atbats tonight looked awful, like he is unhappy in Piitsburgh. It pisses me off we unloaded him at the last minute of the trade dead line but I understand the dilema Omar was in. Getting Perez and Roberto Hernandez to shore up our bullpn when Sanchez went down for the year was a decent move,I guess it had to be done. Poor Nady though:(

It will be intersting to see how the Mets approach the two lefties they face this weekend. They need to iron this problem out before it gets ugly come post season. Pedro-I think he just had an off night and the frustration we saw in him was just that-total disapointment. You know he wanted to clinch the title for the Mets and when Willie pulled him early he was kicking himself for not pitching better.

"Cheer up, nancy."

Martinez allowed four runs in three innings. He threw 68 pitches and gave up six hits, walked one, hit a batter and made a throwing error. He struck out four.

"I didn't see the results I was expecting," Martinez said. "When you come off so many days without throwing the ball, you want to make a statement. I wanted to do a little bit better."

"My physical body didn't feel quite as well as I was expecting for the time being," he said. "I can't expect to be 100 percent fine. I still have plenty of time to do it."

Television cameras showed Martinez appearing distraught in the dugout and being consoled by Randolph and pitching coach Rick Peterson after leaving the game.

"My pitches weren't there. That was the biggest frustration," Martinez said. "I was about to snap and let it all out. Thank God Willie was there. I felt like crying at that time."

Randolph said Martinez was healthy and would make his next scheduled start.

"I thought he did pretty well, actually," Randolph said. "He's a competitor, he's a warrior and it didn't work out like he wanted. He's a little frustrated."

Nice summary Angelus. I still don't really know what happened to Sanchez or Nady that night since I left right before the trade deadline. I feel for Nady, I've seen this kid Perez pitch but so far Hernandez has been MIA.

I love Pedro's comments on ESPN. He's a fighter, no white flags. We'll clinch tomorrow.

Lets go METS!

Sanchez dislocated his shoulder in a cab accident at 1a.m the day the trade dead line was to expire. Just before this happened-the Mets were in heavy talks for two potential starters. Jason Smidt and if you believe the reports- Roy Oswalt(though the validity of these events are now suspect.) When the word came down that Sanchez banged up his shoulder the Mets feared the worst and saw a quick fix in an old friend-Roberto Hernandez. The deal apparently became abit less risky when the Bucks through in Perez. Hernandez has been pretty good as he was with them last year but man...if Perez ever gets it together the Mets can have one deadly pitcher in the making.

Yeah Pedro leaves it all on the field-he wanted to come through for them but it just wasn't so tonight. I liked the way Willie lifted him up though, the Mets club house is really a team with heart this year.

Man, I saw Pedro on SC and the few pitches I saw were topping out at 86-7. His slider was in the 82 range. Was he throwing that slow all game?

Yeah he toped 88 a few times, but for the most part he was always around 84-86. I also noticed he didn't change speeds too well. Most his pitches were almost at the same speeds each time out. He didn't look good at all tonight.

Thanks for filling me in. I never would have thought that we had a shot at getting Oswalt. We probably would have given up the farm to get him though.

Nomar has been so bad since the All-Star break... hitting .222 after it. Power is WAY down -- 5 doubles versus 24 before it -- an OPS of .665! Conversely, Raffy has an OPS of .956 and a batting average of .340. He's really been the difference maker for us in the second half.

Maddux is throwing a no hitter through six! Did I just jinx him ?

He been really inconsistent also, such differences between 1 half compare to now.
