Official NHL CBA Conclusion thread! HOSANNAH, BITCHES

Yes. I think players like Kaberle will excel and increase their offensive numbers in this new NHL.

P.S. It's good to see Steen make the team. Always loved his two-way game and I like how the Leafs are starting to play and look as a team. If Eddie can hold up they'll be battling Ottawa for top spot in the division, even with their questionable D.

Tsn reporting that the habs have sent Latendresse down to minors.

I can't stress how dissapointed I am. Yeah I know he's only 18 and could use the developmental time, but he earned a place on the team threw his performance in preseason.

and stumpy not making the leafs is to bad. Personally I think he should just call it quits now, he's had a career full of memories and he got to play with the blue and white for one last hurrah, even though it was a short preseason stint, I think its the best way he can go out now.

Unless he's going to be a top 6 forward (or top 5 dman) in the NHL, it would be crazy for a team to keep an 18 year old up with the big club. Under the new CBA, years played is the big determiner in when a player becomes unrestricted. If a team keeps an 18 year old player for a couple of seasons to play on the third line or play for 10 minutes a night then he'll become a UFA at 25 or 26, which no team wants. Better for the Habs to have him start his NHL career when he can contribute as a first line player so they get his guaranteed 7 years of service when he's more in his prime.

Tell me about the disapointment man..... My man Marc-Andre Fleury got the screw job again in pittsburgh. I love Craig Patrick but damn if it didn't piss me off to hear him say "We thought that Marc-Andre and Caron had similar camps". Caron looked like a fucking swiss cheese out there. Marc-Andre Fleury was the best player in penguins camp and probably played even better then Sidney Crosby. Fleury sure as hell out played T-Bo as well...

He got shafted because of his 'joe thornton' model rookie contract. He is only 20 years old Anyone need a goalie in 6 years? Cause I can sure as hell lay money that Marc-Andre will most likely walk the first chance he gets.

2 years in a row the penguins have snubbed him out of his bonus money that he deserves a chance to get as a 1st overall pick.

Damn it!

Calder, I know your right, but the point of training camp is suppossed to be to fight for a place on the team, to earn a spot by outperforming the rest.

And Latendresse sure as hell outperformed people like Begin and Sundstrom.

What gets me is that management goes off about spots only going to the people who earn them, and that no one is guranteed a spot. Yeah, right.

KingsPen - Fleury is a vastly differnt senario then Latendresse though. You got to remember that goalies usually dont hit their prime until 25-27 years of age. So I can see why they made the choice with Fleury.

At this point TBO is the better goalie, he has experience and he's pretty much in his prime. If the Pens D line can atleast hold teams to around 20 shots per game, Tbo will be able to hold it down for sure.

Man, just got back from a buddy's house where me and 6 other guys did a draft-style hockey pool. Doing nothing but sitting around talking hockey for 2 straight hours was one of the best things I've experienced all week, and I've had an awesome week. We drew numbers from a hat on what order we were picking in, and I got 6th (second to last, so I got to pick 6th then 9th).

We each had to choose 8 forwards, 4 defensemen, and 2 goalies. No trades allowed unless your player gets injured, then you can trade for a player of equal or lesser points, and after that you can't trade that player again. The point system is set up like this;

Forwards / Defensemen
1 goal = 2 points
1 assist = 1 point

Goalies
1 win = 2 points
1 shutout = 1 point
So keep in mind that plus/minus or PIM means nothing, so it'd be much smarter to take a defensemen like Brent Sopel than it would Derian Hatcher. All that matters is points (and the more goals, the better). Both Naslund and Nabakov got taken before I had a chance to choose anyone, so that pissed me off, but overall I'm pretty happy with my roster- save for the fact that 3 of the players had off years during the previous season;

Joe Sakic
Joe Thornton
Todd Bertuzzi
Robert Lang
Mats Sundin
Daniel Briere
Miroslav Satan
Paul Kariya

Brian Leetch
Kimmo Timonen
Adrian Aucoin
Mike Van Ryn

Thomas Vokoun
Jose Theodore

As you can see I'm banking pretty much all of my success on my prediction that Nashville is going to have a great year (especially scoring wise since the previous 2 other best teams in their division have questionable goaltending), and that the aforementioned players with off seasons- Thornton, Bertuzzi, Kariya- rebound given the strength of their teams this year.

Some surprising notables that weren't picked at all after everyone had picked their roster (so 56 forwards, 28 d-men, and 14 goalies were taken ahead of these players);

Brett Hull
Cory Stillman
Michael Ryder
Scott Walker
Scott Gomez
Jordan Cheechoo
Doug Weight
Peter Bondra

Sean Hill
John Michael Liles
Brian Rafalski
Jordan Leopold

Marty Turco (seriously wtf, people took Legace, Joseph over Turco)
Roberto Luongo
Nikolai Khabibulin

All in all, I think I've got a solid team that leans somewhat on 1 team's potential (success) and on big guys returning to form.

haha, as an aside, some guy took Jon Sim with his last pick, and ridiculed all of us for missing him.

Jon Sim.

I'm amazed that Cheechoo didn't get drafted, oh, and that you got 4(!!!) players who usually go in the first round. Sundin (usually) Thornton and Sakic (almost always) and Bertuzzi (second most drafts I've seen) That's crazy

I had no problem with sending Fleury down.

The plan is to have T-Bone as our starting goalie, so Fleury, at best, would start 20 games this year. I'm much more comfortable having him start nearly every game down in the minors.

He'll be here, soon enough.

This was the order in which I drafted the players:

Sakic
Thornton
Bertuzzi
Vokoun
Leetch
Lang
Sundin
Timonen
Theodore
Aucoin
Briere
Kariya
Satan
Van Ryn
So if you consider that I was drafting 6th out of 7 people in a snake style draft, my pick of Mats Sundin was 48th overall. I was pretty surprised he was available that long.

Seriously. I've never seen him go later than 20th overall. Amazing what can happen in a room full of ignorant canuck fans

Well, I can wait for Fleury, I just think that it is a bad press release to say that Caron and him had similar camps and that was the driving factor on why they sent him down. That was just the thing that pissed me off. T-Bo will get a lot of puck shot at him all season long.
I can't believe hockey season starts in 2 more nights... that is just crazy. I feel like it is Christmas...

Awesome news on the CBC! :D

Damn, Lemieux had ELEVEN points (2 goals and 9 assists) in 4 exhibition games. That's just wrong. :lol

Lemieux was one of the hardest guys to choose for the draft. One of my friends was considering it, and he asked another guy there (who had a stats sheet),

"What did Lemieux get last season?"

"Uh, like 11 points."

"How much did he get the year before that?"

"Something like 111 points."

By the way, I've decided to go back to Espn NHL 2K5.

2K6 is just a rushed game, period. It started out great, but like a bad relationship, the little things just get to you.

Bob Cole has gone from acceptable to just down right fucking annyoing, in like 2 weeks flat. Bob, I love you in real life, but your a fucking hack in videogames bud. Don't quit your dayjob.

The gameplay is choppy
the player faceoff animation is... stiff.
Players often shoot the puck before it even touches their stick.
Computer AI on hall of famer is a joke.
Fighting same as last year...but worse. Choppy.
On the fly strategies still around from last year, except extremley hard to execute.

Strategies in the pause menu set up incredible stupid, to the point where my brain hurts from just looking at the dam screen.

But the worst culprit by far is navigating threw the menu's. Switching goalies in game IS A FUCKING MISSION, period. Why? who knows.

Anyways, 2k6, I tried to love you, and our little fling was fun while it lasted, but your just not what im looking for in a long term relationship.

You know, I'm disappointed, yet also somewhat happy to hear that. I just picked up (against my better judgment) NHL 06 the other day. My main reason for doing so was because I'd heard about the lack of polish in 2K6, and I thought that outside the actual on-ice action, ESPN could have used more polish and a bit of improvement on UI.

As far as 06 goes, I'm enjoying it, though it feels weird. A bit of monkeying with sliders does offer a less frantic experience, and it's much less a game of mad dashes up and down the ice than I can recall it being in years (I think they amped up the speed in the second PSX version -- 98 -- and the game had sort of been that way since, IMO). It's no Madden, but at least it comes with NHL '94.

I still can't believe I missed a yahoo public draft and ended up with mario, st louis, sundin, recchi, ribiero

Like WTF were the people who were there actually doing?!

Hey somebody here better start a new thread for the new season, I'm tired of having to read "CBA" everytime I click, brings up anger everytime I think about what happened.

Its time to move on to the new era!

Ps. Incase anyone's wondering why I don't just do it myself, I don't have access to start a new topic.

I'm assuming someone is going to prepare a big season opener post. I'd make one... but whenever I decide to make one of those threads I get like half done my preparation and someone else makes it.
