If they paid off the Russians.. why were the games so close =\
They could have easily lost the last game.

Pundits say it was done in order to make it look "real" and more dramatic. I don't buy the theory but many people believe in it and that Eagleson, always being crooked and a snake, scrambled to "buy" the Russians after Canada was embarrassed in the first game.

Anyone who's watched the games knows that it would have been the greatest fix in sports history on a technical level. :lol

"OK, we've bribed you all to throw the last few games for some reason, even though our entire team has been playing much better every game and you godless commies have been just hanging on mainly due to incredibly bad officiating. But to make it work well, we're going to need the last 3 games to all be insanely close, so if you want to hit a few posts and crossbars and then let us score one or two amazing bang-bang goals to eke out the 1 goal victory that would be great! Here's some crappy jeans, thanks for deciding to lose the series that would have made you living gods in your country."

"Quinn wasn't happy with the way the small, speedy Buffalo lineup, which seems perfectly built for the new NHL and contrasts the Leafs' larger lineup, motored around his blueliners like they were standing still.

The bottom line, for now, is that the Leafs look really bad and need a lot of work to catch up to some of their rivals".

Looks to me like he led with his right elbow more than his shoulder and also looked like a charge. It was worse than the Naslund hit yet the Canucks are singing a different tune.
:lol

Well I've watched the Ruutu hit and you Flames fans need to stfu. Not only did he not get the elbow up, your own captain called it for what it was - a clean hit. Junior got his bell rung. Go ask Iginla what tune he's singing.

And while I've got my dander up, wtf is going on with Toronto's defensive corps? Looks like a bunch of Dana Murzyns out there on the ice.

Pylon.jpg

Oh, finally got my Bell ExpressVu satellite hookup with HD, hockey is going to be farking sweet this year. Oh yes. :D

One more thing: Sean Avery is a moron. Why doesn't he go ask his teammate Luc Robitaille exactly how gutless a visor-wearing French-Canadian is? Fuckwit. And the media who insist on going to this shithead for quotes are just as bad as he is - give a monkey a mic and he thinks he's Jonny Pundit.

Well, if one removes their rose coloured..err...blue coloured glasses, they'd truly see how pathetic this D is especially if the league stays strict with the penalty calls.

Why is Aki Berg still on this team? What does Quinn see in him? Why is Quinn still coaching this team?

Lappy was on radio a few minutes ago and said he would beat Avery up. Belanger and Robitaille were also there and said that Avery was just a big loud mouthed moron.

The thing is the Naslund hit was clean too. If anything Iginla stating that the hit was clean even though the evidence seems to show a clear charge and blow to the head worse than what Naslund got just shows me class. At least our captain tried to take control and give Ruutu an asswhooping (which he turtled away from) rather than crying about it.

Fact: Naslund got hit with a clear elbow - in part because his head was down reaching for the puck. We can argue all day long about whether or not Steve Moore was headhunting, but the elbow to the head is not in dispute.

Fact: Junior got caught with his head down by a clean check. Iginla (give him props, btw) stood up for his teammate and that's fine, but the check was clean. Don't believe me? Go ask your captain.

Your assertions that 1) Ruutu led with his elbow and 2) it was a charge are laughable. Hell, the refs didn't think it was worth a penalty, and they've been calling powerplays like they're going out of style this preseason. Calgary's own captain said the check was clean, so if it's all the same to you I'll listen to the guys who actually know what they're on about. Thanks for playing!

Fact: Naslund got hit with a clear elbow - in part because his head was down reaching for the puck.

Fact: Junior got caught with his head down by a clean check

That alone = :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
Whatever you say bud!

Not gonna bother but I just think the situation is ironic and shows the classier team.

Not gonna bother because you have nothing to offer.

Let the record show only one Flames fan thought it was an illegal hit. This Flames fan just thought it was hilarious and typical that noted super-pussy Jarkko Ruutu had zero desire to stand up for himself. Clean hit notwithstanding, if you nail a guy that hard with his head down and you're a 6'2" player who likes to mix it up you should damn well be ready to toss some knuckles. Naturally Ruutu won't throw down with anyone who actually knows how, which leads to Allen being pummeled by a visibly bored Chris Simon.

This is a good point. I bet you if Ruutu drops the gloves and gets dummied, he at least gains respect from Flames players and more importantly...his own teammates.

If anything, Ritchie's lucky Jarkko didn't try and twist his leg off like he attempted to with Clark during the playoffs.

And I agree, clean hit. Too bad for Byron and hopefully he recovers quick. Friday's tilt should be a good one. I assume Bert and Naslund will be playing.

See if we can score some goals against the Grease tonight. Three games in three nights! Wowowowow. :/

Edit: Allen got pummelled cuz he was saving Jovo from a beating.

LOL WHATEVER YOU SAY BUD

what's that iginla you say it was clean?

YEAH OKAY PAL

huh everyone else in this thread says it was a clean hit?

ROFLEDONKEYS IF THAT'S YOUR PEROGATIVE ACE

Rewatch the video I posted in slow motion, bud, (or use the pause-unpause-pause method). His elbow goes into the air after the hit in order to regain balance, but he never hits the guy with his elblow.

And it makes little sense for Jarkko to fight, because he'd probably lose the fight, and satisfy the Flames players. Do you think he's looking for respect? He's a fucking pest, that's his role. He's not Iginla or Simon or any other kind of player, he's there to irritate the other team and get their mind off the game, and I think leveling a player with a clean hit and then walking away from a fight is a pretty good way to do that.

You Canuck fans kill me.
That was a charge and after multiple viewings a borderline elbow. A clean hit is when your shoulders are not square and hands are not up. What do you expect Iginla to say? Put a bounty on Ruutu? Punch him in the back of the head? He takes it with class after the fact but look at his reaction on the ice for the true story. Ruutu is a straight up bitch, not a pest. Theres a difference between being a pest and a pussy. A pest will annoy the shit out of a team but when the bell tolls stand up for himself. It's called being a man and obviously not in the team playbook.

Well any hard hit will be debated for various merits. Elbow? Charge? Why didn't he let up? etc...etc..etc.. Eric Lindros still feels the Scott Stevens drilling hit he received while with Philly was cheap but IMO that was a devastatingly clean hit.

what bullshit, I can't watch the end of the Sens/Sabres exhibition game because my wife wants to watch Veronica Mars and apparently "called" it. What a fool I was to only get one digital terminal. :(

Looks like the habs won....oh no they lost....oh wait they won....nope they lost....win....lost.....win...lost...win...lost...win...lost!

What the hell happened there? Half the sports website (even tsn) posted that they won yet they lost. I know that a Boston win over Montreal is hard to believe but still.....

I'm just telling you what I heard from an oldtimer who lived through it. He swears the fix was on after the Russians dominated team Canada on our own home soil. Once they moved back to Russia, a bit of levis magic -- presto Canadian legends are born.

But *you* realize it's one of the stupidest made-up rumours in sports history right?

Well, "rumour" has it that ships left with crates of Levi jeans one early dawn after Canada's first loss through the Bering Straight en route to the USSR. An Inuit man tells of this tale.

That didn't answer his question. :P

Oh, hopefully this will. Kharlamov was promised the "red tab" Levis while the other Russian players would get the basic "orange tab" ones. In return, Kharlamov promised to fake an injury and chose Bobby Clarke as the culprit because it would seem more believable.

I don't know, it's only sports. There's been fixing in italian soccer numerous times..guess I'm jaded cause I come from an italian background. We just assumed lots of things are fixed.

I didn't even know they played today. From reading the article on tsn, looks like the bruins won it.

And Bergeron had a 4 point night! Man that guy is going to kill for me in our fantasy leagues!

Moving on...

Jovo is the one guy on the team besides Brookbank that has no fear of anyone. You do remember who beat the shit out of Deadmarsh and gave him a serious enough concussion to eventually end his career, don't you? Not bragging that it's a good thing, just that Jovanovski can handle his own without difficulty.

Oh, I'm not disputing Jovo's toughness/willingness to fight, I was just commenting on the reason Allen got smoked. Simon had intended on telling Jovo not to touch Kipper, but Allen figured he would let Simon give his knuckles a workout on his face. Stand up guy, I would say.

In anycase, Flames beat da Grease 5-0 tonight to make up for the 4-0 shellacking they gave us last night. We win the preseason BOA, so it's all good!!

Rumour: Boynton rejected Boston's latest offer of 1.75 million and has "quietly" asked to be moved to Toronto.

I'd give up Berg, Belak, Domi for him :D

If the Leafs have any brains :lol they'll hustle for Boynton, stat. Of course, what do they have to offer that Beantown would want?

This CBA has turned hockey into Crazytown!

I believe half of that sentence!

You know, not that I'm saying it won't happen, but.. you know. Here's how it works. Take any random sentence. I'm going to go to GA's front page and find one. One sec.

Okay;

Thanks to Lik-Sang, we're giving away the ever-popular SmartJoy FRAG
run it through the LEAF NATION filter, and voila;

Thanks to Lik-Sang, we're giving away the ever-popular SmartJoy FRAG who'd always dreamed of playing for Toronto
God is it tiring to see people say every player dreams of playing for the Leafs. I made this picture during the offseason for the NHL thread on SA's forums, and somehow, I'm pretty sure I'll be using it next offseason too:

But it's true, every player DOES dream of playing for the Leafs.

Team1040 is saying that the HNIC game between the Leafs and Canadiens will have no sound... and the Canucks/Oilers game isnt going to be on tv at all.

WTF

I WILL BE FUUUUURRRRIOUS IF THIS HAPPENS

Argh! Fuck this. I'm so sick of this strike, it's been going on for so long now! I'll admit I don't know much about the two sides' demands, but I hope they're in serious talks to end this crap.

Hmmm. I just realized that they might not. They always have in the past though, but NHL doesn't show them in their schedule.

I just checked the SRC's schedule, and there's no hockey on Saturday. What the hell? There's been hockey on ever since I started watching in the early 90's.
