I'd be okay with Rajala too.

Kingpen said:Well.... I'm not totally happy with the Pens taking another Defensemen in the first round.... With the luxary of centers we have, we need something more then pylons to support them.
I don't think we have drafted a winger in a long ass time (maybe since Colby Armstrong in 2001)
Although having a glut of defensemen isn't bad for a team that likes to play firewagon hockey though....
Pens fans, be prepared for rent-an-average/under-average/over-the-hill winger for lots of years... that is simply the reality of having the star centers we have...
I'm just still happy as hell we were getting congratulated for winning the cup. And to Garth Snow for snubbing us with congratulations, I hope we torch the Islanders next year![]()
They only question when the losses pile up. After Double-B makes his mark and turns this team into a force, Cox, Simmons et all will become the biggest bandwagon jumpers in history. They'll be lathering up Double-B's nads after every move. Mark my words we're soon to be entering the golden age of Leafs hockey where all the years of losing will become a distant memory. Similar to how Wings fans only think of Cups now and don't remember the bad teams of the 80s. It's the best time to be a Leaf fan now. I can't wait!!R_GILL said:It is just getting started, he is only been on the job for a couple of months in like a year when the media start questioning his moves that is when it is going to get epic. I can't wait for Simmons, Cox, Strachan and Berger Vs. Burke.
You should be more concerned about Gainey's answers last night regarding progress in getting a first line center. He said something to the effect of "it's a long process, we'll be making changes well into Sept/Oct" :lolSolo said::lol
Thankfully I can appreciate the sarcasm. God bless you, Manics.
Solo said:Im not saying that this is a great time to be a Habs fan, just finding your Leafs fan comment to be funny given Burke's all bark, no bite approach to this years draft.
Actually, in a sense this is an interesting time to be a Habs fan. Even though its rebuild time, at least with all those UFAs we've got, were going to purge a lot of dead weight from the team.
I hope both team can't sign them. Especially Bouwmeester.sefskillz said:Bouwmeester rights to Calgary for rights to Leopold and a 3rd

I guess I'll be following the Swedish Elite League a little more closely this year.
From what I understood, he wanted a guaranteed roster spot, which the Oilers weren't willing to offer, so he took the big money in the KHL instead. That could all just be internet bullshit, though.pringles said:They're just trying to make up for the fact that they let the best one go.
Oilers don't like small players? What? Where on earth did you get that idea? Cogliano, Gagner, Pisani, Hemsky, etc.well fuck, the Oilers get Rajala too. I thought they didn't like small players?
Well maybe they don't dislike small players, but they told Omark he was a small guy and they don't need more small guys, which is why they gave him a shitty offer and why he chose the KHL. Nilsson has a damn roster spot on the Oilers. Omark is 10x better than him.fallout said:From what I understood, he wanted a guaranteed roster spot, which the Oilers weren't willing to offer, so he took the big money in the KHL instead. Nilsson also has NHL experience and has gotten better of the past little while. Omark is unproven in a professional league and while that might change this year (and I fully expect it to), it's still a little unreasonable to demand a lot at entry level.pringles said:Well maybe they don't dislike small players, but they told Omark he was a small guy and they don't need more small guys, which is why they gave him a shitty offer and why he chose the KHL. The SEL is a proffessional league.fallout said:Omark is unproven in a professional league
Oh, shit. I didn't realize he'd been playing in the SEL. Must have gotten him mixed up with someone else. Apologies.pringles said:The SEL is a proffessional league.
I would have preferred it if he had stayed another year in the SEL to be honest. Maybe he'll develop more in the KHL (and earn more money), but it's not like I'll be able to see any games in that league.fallout said:Still, he'll be excelling in the KHL this year, shouldn't you be happy?
fallout said:Oh, shit. I didn't realize he'd been playing in the SEL. Must have gotten him mixed up with someone else. Apologies.
Either way, I don't think the Oilers would just dump this guy for just any stupid reason. They may have let him slip away on them, which would be certainly disappointing. Still, he'll be excelling in the KHL this year, shouldn't you be happy?
fallout said:Still, he'll be excelling in the KHL this year, shouldn't you be happy?
Well, point there is that Nilsson's been to training camp, made the team, etc. He was sent back to the AHL when he was slacking and managed to have a pretty decent season last year.darkwings said:I really dont know why nilsson gets a roster spot on oilers. Can't believe he slipped all the way to #101.

Ray Shero said:"I think he'll do that and it's a good idea. We've had conversations with his agent and Rob and there is the unknown as far as what's out there. We've had good discussions but I believe he will go to July 1. When guys go to July 1, sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't. They don't know what a hometown discount is; they don't know what's out there. We'll have a conversation Monday and Tuesday but that wouldn't surprise me, wouldn't shock me, won't disappoint me. Rob knows we'd like to have him back but at the same time, Rob has never made a lot of money. We'll see how it goes for him but we've made it clear that we want him back."

Me too. An undersized and weak but skillful euro sounds like a perfect fit for the Wings.scissorfight said:i was surprised the wings didn't grab him earlier
He was 3rd in scoring with 55p in 53 games in the SEL this past season. He was by far the most fun player in the league to watch.Pochacco said:I don't know what's so great about Omark. A few fancy shootout moves?

And what did you do this year? You didn't cave to the fans and draft a shmo instead of someone potentially better? "Heres a gift to the fans on our 100th anniversary season, this loser should make up for us getting swept"Foreign Jackass said:Are you crying about Tavares yet?
Come on, we haven't even drafted a medium-to-high profile quebec player since Latendresse (a second round pick), and our last 1st round pick for a quebecer goes back to 1998. You're just talking through your ass.
R_GILL said:Ha I didn't notice. Kirill Kabanov will be ours for sure, Leafs are terrible no way this team can even win 20 games.
Yes the Habs drafted Louis Leblanc only so they could get a 5 minute round of applause at the Bell Center.Manics said:The only reason you took Price when you did was due to the fact the draft wasn't in Montreal. Otherwise you woud have drafted the loser french guy. Nice way of running your team. Lol
That's exactly why they drafted him. Tsn interviewed Gainey right after the pick and asked if it was a "gift to the fans" taking a montreal born player. Gainey said he's aware of the tradition and knew what it would mean to the fanbase. Mission accomplished, crowd happy, Habs get a guy with a French name. Who cares if he can play. Pens are gunna let Scuds test the waters. Looks like he is gone.
You do know that the fanbase extends beyond the 21,000 people in the Bell Center right? Them drafting a French player has nothing to do with the event being held in Montreal.Manics said:That's exactly why they drafted him. It's a great pick. Great skater, could be very good offensively, and an outstanding shut down defencemen. He would've went top 5, maybe even top 3 if it weren't for his injury. But he should be good to go now. Also his dad has a fuckin monster of a stache so you know he'll be real good.YakiSOBA said:tell me about this 1st round draft pick that the sens chose... some tall guy i have read, not much else?![]()
