San Jose No-Trade-Clauses

Dan Boyle, S.J - NTC [full NTC until June 30, 2012; after that, Boyle can pick 8 teams that he will not accept a trade to]
Mike Grier, S.J - NTC
Patrick Marleau, S.J - NTC
Evgeni Nabokov, S.J - NTC
Joe Thornton, S.J - NTC

lol
Do NTC's really make it impossible to trade the player? I thought that if they player agreed to it they could trade them.

Nabby for Biron? Although that would be trading scrap for scrap.

And yes, a player can waive his no trade clause.

Final CSS draft rankings. Some pretty big surprises, Cowen dropping from 3 to 9 in NA skaters which does make sense since his injury is fairly serious but I don't think he will drop that far, he will probably be taken in the top 8. Scott Glenie has gone up a ton since the beginning of the season, that is too bad as I wanted both him and Schenn.

The Minnesota Wild have started their search for a new general manager and have targeted former Leafs Pat Quinn and John Ferguson, as well as Pierre McGuire according to a Toronto newspaper report.

In Monday's Toronto Star it was reported that McGuire is expected to be interviewed by Wild owner Craig Leipold either Monday or Tuesday, and interviews will also happen wtih Quinn, Ferguson, Chuck Fletcher, player agent Neil Sheehy and others.

The Wild fired Doug Risebrough in April after 10 years as general manager. Head coach Jacques Lemaire resigned as well.

Quinn has been out of the NHL since leaving the Leafs in 2006, while Ferguson is currently a scout for the San Jose Sharks since being fired as Leafs GM in January, 2008.

Fletcher, son of former Flames and Leafs GM Cliff, is currently an assistant GM with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

McGuire meanwhile has experience in NHL management (Hartford, Ottawa) and coaching (Pittsburgh).

Please hire McGuire for the lols.

McGuirre would be epic fail, I heard that a lot of players in the NHL hate him. Although, it would probably assure that there are a minimal amount of foreign players on the team, which the Leafs fans would probably go for.

Why would Leafs fans care about Minnesota's GM?

Dreger says that Burke wants to trade for LeCavalier. On one hand its Dreger, on the other hand he is cousins with Nonis. Either way it makes no sense.

State of the Sharks details announced.

http://sharks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=422029

Thursday, May 14, 7-9pm, HP Pavilion. Free admission. Enter through North doors.

Scheduled to be there:

Jamison
DW
Mclellan
Thornton
Boyle
Pavelski

Doors open 6:30pm.

I'm really considering going. Mii must be upset though, Thornton isn't going anywhere if he's going to this. Neither Nabby or Marleau is scheduled to be there though so what does that say?

Why do I have this foreboding that my Bruins will be part of this thread equation soon enough? And would a Ducks-Canes Stanley Cup finals confrontation between the 2006 & 2007 champs prove to be ratings death?

(Interesting that all post-strike Cup champs are still alive and kicking.)

Fuck yes I'm back in town by then. And I dunno if we can say Thornton is staying for certain. Who knows, what if the meeting gets ugly?

Acid08 said:
So McLellan is the problem now. He's trying to coach the Sharks the way he coached the Wings, very offensively. But the Sharks aren't necessarily a team that should be totally offensively focused.

I am of the opinion that R Wilson was amazing for this team, but that we needed a heart transplant. Wilson was calling out Marleau until D Wilson thought it was becoming a problem. Now we see Wilson was right. That doesn't mean I want Marleau traded. I just want his C stripped and given to Boyle. Thornton I want to see what we could potentially get for him.

Nabokov I want to keep. I just don't think there is anything on the market that is worth trading for. If we just regear to less offense R Wilson levels, Nabokov will be able to do the rest.

I can never claim to know what D Wilson is thinking. I think he knows exactly how to bring people in. He did an amazing job of it last year. He's great at adding auxiliary. I wonder if he can retool the core though. Thornton hasn't ended up the best choice ever.

Yeah I think there are going to be a lot of really pissed off fans there. I actually feel bad for Thornton, he's going to get the shit torn out of him even though he was really picking up his play in those last 2 games. I know Doug Wilsons quotes after the loss were soooo angry.

Khabibulin is going to be available after this season though. I'm not exactly sure how he would stack up compared to Nabby though.

I love Khabibulin. I think he might be my favorite goaltender in the league. Not so much for talent. He's just been so much fun to watch for years now.

And as for Thornton, thats 4 games too late. He deserves to be eaten alive, especially with his attitude the first 4 games.

Then maybe a Khabi for Nabby trade is in order.

What do you think is going to happen to Cheechoo? I love the kid, he's always the hardest working player on the ice but he doesn't score fucking goals anymore.

He's a very expensive 4th liner by this point. Change of scenery might help him too. Definitely depends on what we can get for him. When does his contract run out?

And I'd rather keep Nabby. Khabi is entertaining, but from what I've seen he can be streakier than Nabby, in good and bad ways.

He signed a 5 year 15 mil contract in 2006. Would we really get that much for him though? I'm sure whoever we try to trade him to will be perfectly aware of his decline over the past couple years.

The big issue then with trading him is getting someone to accept that pricey contract. I figure we might be able to then trade if we can get some low end prospects from it. Might be better to free up cap space.

The more we talk about it the less I think anything is going to change next year.

Don't mind the smell, it's the Oiler fans. I think 'fetid' is the best word for them, if you think 'rank' is too obvious.

Real American Hero Mike Modano officially coming back for one more season:

dallasstars.com said:
Mike Modano said today that he will return to play for the Dallas Stars for the 2009-10 season. He made his decision official over the last few weeks, leaning towards a return since the season ended on April 10.

“I’ve made my decision and I’m coming back to play,” Modano said. “I think everyone eventually knew I was going to come back, but I still wanted to take some time and think about things. Watching everyone else playing in the playoffs helped push me to make the decision. This is the best time of year and we want to get back to playing post-season hockey next season.”

A veteran of 19 seasons in the NHL, Modano has played 15 of them in Dallas – more than any other professional athlete in the history of the city. He holds virtually every franchise record, including games (1,400), goals (543), assists (786), and points (1,329).

Modano has more goals and points than any other U.S.-born player in NHL history. He’d have to play past next season to have a chance to catch Phil Housley’s assist mark of 894 (Modano is currently 108 behind).

So we asked Mike if this was a possibility. Entering the last year of a five-year contract, is there a chance he will consider playing past his 40th birthday?

“I think there’s a chance but I’m going to take this season-by-season and see how I feel,” he said. “A part of me wants to keep coming back to play until they tell me they don’t want me to come back. I love playing the game. We’ll see how this coming season goes and go from there.”

Modano skated in his 1,400th game in Dallas’ final game of the season at Anaheim on April 10. He became just the 30th player in league history to play in that many games. Only four current players have hit the 1,400-game mark – Chris Chelios (1,644), Brendan Shanahan (1,524), Mark Recchi (1,490), and Rod Brind’Amour (1,404).

“I still feel very good and I continue to keep my body in the best shape possible,” Modano said. “I’m looking forward to relaxing a bit this summer, but continuing to work towards the beginning of next season. I’m excited about returning and playing again.”

Good news for us Stars fans!

I hope Nabby doesn't.
The only loophole in his NTC is that its connected to Sharks playoff appearances. Sharks don't make the playoffs, and they have the ability to trade him for the next season.

And as of today, Marleau has been added to the panel. I'll be going still as I had planned last week. It seems like they tried to bring all the leaders (Pavelski kinda) into this to face fans in person. I doubt with all of these guys coming that they will be leaving, but one never knows as the FA window doesn't open for another 1.5 months which may have an influence. Should be interesting for sure.

Kaberle, Schenn and the 7th pick for the 2nd pick.......

Not really a rumour since Oren Koules baltantly told Sportsnet that that is what they would want if they were moving the 2nd pick.

TIPPET FIRED!?!?

Oh god.. If we sign Marc Crawford like rumored then I'm going to drive to Frisco Texas and beat someone down in that head office..

It better be Guy Carboneau... not Marc Crawford..

I can't believe we fired Tippet..

That Tippet firing is completely baffling. He got a pretty good result out of that team considering Avery and the injuries.

Even funnier if they do hire Crawford.

I heard some romours about Danny Heatly wanting to leave the Sens, the Kings was supposed to be the team most likely to sign him. Anybody heard something about this?

The Tippett firing is ridiculous.

Last year was the first time we hadn't made the playoffs with him..

Avery and Injuries and everything should not factor into his firing..

Joe Nieuwendyk fucking shit up. ARGGHHH

I'm literally shaking.. Its like my world is caving in!

it's moved past rumors, it's practically official that he wants a trade

no word on what teams are looking for him, we'll probably known closer to the draft

Towards the end of the season before last I remember the stars going on a little bit of a run where they played horrible, but then picked up in the playoffs and at least held their own for a little bit.

The firing to Tippett just kinda sucks for him, because its not like the injuries are really his fault. Guess well just have to wait and see who replaces him.

I'm a little indifferent about Tip leaving town. Let's rewind: Two years ago, before our run to the conference final, he was gone if he didn't get Dallas out of the first round. He did of course and there was much rejoicing. Unfortunately, I think the organization went a little overboard and sign-happy with all the contract extensions last summer, including Tip's 2-year extension. Of course the injuries weren't his fault and I thought the coaching staff did a damn good job last year, keeping a wounded team in contention through most of February and into March.

Hopefully we get someone with some fire, some serious defense-oriented planning, and someone that is half-way inspiring to the players. I never thought that Tip had the level of respect in the room that we might need to get to the next level and bring home a Cup. He certainly never had the balls to call a practice on Thanksgiving ala Hitchcock in Nov '98 or extra grueling practice sessions after embarrassing losses. He never placed an emphasis on protecting the AAC or establishing any kind of home advantage, the likes of which we haven't really had since the move over from Reunion Arena. He was originally brought in and touted as a "powerplay specialist" but our pp has been in shambles for (seemingly) the last three seasons... no, I'm not going to go digging for specific stats but I can if asked.

So yeah, my outlook is more of a "let's see who they get; I'm excited about moving forward" kind of attitude.

are the panthers going to be relevant with their new ownership? i want hockey down here to pick up. i dont want to be rooting for them to barely make it in the playoffs then blunder it all away. even if we made the playoffs i still wouldnt be content knowing we wouldnt contend at all
