Heatley leaving will be bittersweet. Hopefully Murray waits until he gets the right deal. It's not like Heatley can do anything about it. But if he can land an awesome young player like Filatov or Gagner then I will be more than happy.

STARS HIRE CRAWFORD AS NEW HEAD COACH
The Dallas Stars have hired Marc Crawford to be their next head coach. The move comes one day after the team announced the dismissal of Dave Tippett.

''I am very excited that we have been able to secure Marc Crawford as head coach of the Dallas Stars,'' said Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk. ''Marc is a winner with extensive experience in this league, and I am confident he will get the most out of our hockey club.''

This will be Crawford's fourth assignment behind an NHL bench. He began his career with the Quebec Nordiques-Colorado Avalanche franchise, and also coached the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings.

''I'm very excited and honored to have been selected as head coach of the Dallas Stars,'' said Crawford. ''This is a winning organization and I look forward to building upon the success that it has earned over the years. This club has a great deal of potential, and I'm eager to get to work in restoring the franchise to among the league's elite.''

He won the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year in 1995, and also won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 1996.

Crawford, 48, is a native of Belleville, Ontario. He spent the past season as a broadcaster after being fired by the Kings after the 2007-08 campaign.

Emery I think is a great move as we can't get much worse back there and it isn't much of a gamble. Still don't think he is that bad of a guy as the Canadian media can be fucking retarded most of the time. Going to have to boycott televesion for a few weeks now, can't bear seeing any footage from tonight again. Might kill myself if I see it one more time.

I feel relieved to finally be able to remove my choke avatar. New season, new team....or not from what DW has been saying.

I'm unfortunately expecting the Sharks to roll out the exact same team as last year.

Hmm how suspicious. Like Burke had it all planned out in the Summer. I'm surprised he didn't try to trade Bobby Ryan to the Leafs before he bailed out then again maybe he did and that is why he was shitcanned.

I'm disgusted you would even think that of me. I'm proud to say I didn't watch 1 second of the entire final series. I had a feeling the Pens would win, so I totally avoided it and I'm a better man for it.

Just to add to what R_GILL said, free agency opens up on July 1st. The draft is on June 26th. Hockey starts back up in September sometime.

Well, about half the team are UFAs, so its guaranteed that we will be dumping a lot of dead weight. So thats a start.

Yep, there won't be another huge celebration until the sesquicentennial so might as well get the lame coaches now to steer the ship to mediocrity.

Meh. Im not completely aware of Martin's coaching style, but from what I gather hes more of a defensive guy. And lord knows we could use some defense in front of Price.

apparently the guy loves the organization, you knew he was done last year, he had that year left on his contract. He does all kinds of stuff around the organization and any time they interview he always talks about how he wants to stay and work his way into coaching. Good for him.

With Biron and maybe Nitty gone, Hatcher official gone, Knuble probably gone or resigned for much cheaper, the Flyers have cap space again, which is basically the big reason for the Emery signing... i wouldnt mind Bouwmeester at all and hell if Emery falls off the rails maybe he can beat the shit out of Crosby in one of his coke fueled rages.

My guess is the NHL makes him pay the $100 million fee, but I'm thinking Balsillie pays it.
