Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Brian Leetch and Luc Robitaille were announced as part of the 2009 Hockey Hall of Fame class on Tuesday, all receiving the honor in their first year of eligibility.

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello will be inducted in the builders' category.

It already has been announced that Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will receive the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for hockey journalism. John Davidson will be given the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for outstanding contributions as a broadcaster.

Pretty good group getting in this year.

LUUUUUUKE ! The best slowest skater ?

Oh and let's start the Lecavalier derby now that Bettman chose the guy who wants to reduce the payroll to $40 millions.

Brent Sutter hired as head coach in Calgary.

He'll most likely quit half way through the season because the hour drive from Red Deer will be too far from his family.

Mike Komisarek to possibly take offer from other team.He was not the same after his injury in that Lucic fight, but damn, healthy this guy can block shot and play physical.

At least don't lose him for nothing.

God, I hope so. Best Russian interview in the NHL, bar none - fluent in English, just the right mix of sardonic and funny, and really didn't give a shit what anybody thought. Yet he never came across as an asshole. A very fine line to walk, and Almo did it to perfection (in Vancouver, anyways). I've always liked the guy.

Doubt he'll get in before Bure, though.

2 more days until the draft, I have a feeling Heatly isn't going to be dealt and will be back next season.

Doubtful. Would the Senators be willing to have him on the roster and not play him? I just don't think he'll play.

That would be epic if Heatly ended up staying. Didn't he give Ottawa a list of teams he would approve the trade? That is like the shittiest thing ever, publicly demanding a trade and only wanting a trade to a specific list of teams.

If he doesn't play then no olympics for him and I don't think he's gonna risk that. As we all have seen from Heatley the past few years, international competition is more important to him than winning a Stanley cup.

A TRUE Canadian. Heatley as captain for Spengler Cup 2012. Spread the word.

Burke revealed more than two months ago that he has set his sights on moving up in the draft to land sniper John Tavares of the London Knights. But while Burke has yet to make headway with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning or Colorado Avalanche – the teams holding the Nos. 1 to 3 picks, respectively – he did admit progress was made in other trade discussions in the past few days.

There is belief the Maple Leafs have been zeroing in on New York Rangers defenceman Wade Redden and forward Peter Schaefer of the Boston Bruins.

Schaefer, 31, was buried in the minors by the Bruins last season because of salary cap concerns. He has one more year on his contract at $2.3-million (U.S.). Redden, 32, was signed to a six-year, $39-million unrestricted free-agent deal last summer, and the Rangers would not be averse to moving him.

I like how the article says that the Rangers would not be adverse to moving him, no fucking shit.

I can't wait for the draft to be over so these retarded rumours will end, then again they will probably continue until July 1st. Can't wait for the billion Sedin and Bouwmeester rumours to intensify.

Has it been discussed yet that Fenway is getting the Winter Classic and that they are going to play the Flyers? Glad future Captain Canada will get some spotlight.

And apparently it's all but confirmed that the second game of the day will be Leafs-Flames in Calgary. Completely unnecessary.

I was surprised that the B's will be playing the Flyers and not the Caps, but I guess it's because they're already planning for a Capitals-Rangers game in NYC in 2011. I really don't care who the Bruins play, but the Flyers will make for a good match-up. I'm gonna do whatever it takes to go to this game... I will pay any amount for tickets.

MONTREAL- The Detroit Red Wings are waiting for an answer from winger Marian Hossa.

The talk in NHL circles is the Wings have a made a lucrative long-term offer to the UFA winger and are waiting to see whether he'll accept the deal or test the market July 1.

Hossa, who signed a one year deal worth $7.45 million (all terms US) last season, will be the most sought after free agent on the market if he keeps his UFA status. That decision should be made in the next couple of days.

:lol All the people at work are rangers fans and have been bitching for a while how no one will ever take reddens overpriced contract. PLEASE GO TO THE LEAFS! PLEASE! Would be so funny.

TSN.ca says that the Leafs have been offered a significant trade proposal for Kaberle and they are considering it

Any word on what that might be?

It's probably Burke trying to get higher offers by using his pals at TSN.

Sources tell TSN the Toronto Maple Leafs have received what the team considers to be a significant offer for defenceman Tomas Kaberle.

There are few details available, however the offer arrived unexpectedly Thursday afternoon and is believed to be from one of the teams who may have been in the hunt, trying to acquire the negotiating rights to Florida's Jay Bouwmeester.

Toronto had originally intended on holding on to Kaberle until after the July 1 free agent frenzy in hope of attracting a better package from a team that wasn't able to land a free agent defenceman.

Sources say the Leafs are seriously considering the offer while waiting to see what other interest materializes in the coming hours.

Meh a whole lot of nothing.

Also according to rumours, the Vancouver Canucks are close to acquiring Jay Bouwmeester, Marian Gaborik and John Tavares.

Oi! I don't think the Canucks have ever been surrounded by so many rumours!

Darren Dreger (I think) is reporting that if Hedman goes first, the Lightning are willing to move the second pick. Apparently Vancouver is in the mix (Bieksa + Schneider + 1st and, maybe, Burrows), if that happens. Who the hell knows how accurate that is, though.

Bouwmeester: Plausible

Gaborik: Likely

Tavares: wut?

And as for all the manfucatured bs speculation about the draft (atleast by TSN), isles are going to draft tavares, and burke isn't going to move up all that much if at all.
