Also, I wish Mike Richards could somehow win the Selke, but Datsyuk is a lock since he won't get the Hart.
I'm sure Richards will eventually get one. Datsyuk definitely deserved it this year and will probably do so for years to come.

Good for him--he was excellent this year. It will be interesting to see if he can do it again next year.

Thank god Green didn't win the Norris. Shame Lids streak is over, but atleast it wasn't ended by a 4th forward.

Lidstrom had an off year this year. I'm glad to see Zdeno win--he deserves it.

Yeah that probably looked like I was saying Datsyuk doesn't deserve it. He definitely does though...I honestly think he deserves more MVP attention as well but I understand the league wants to focus on its stars that are more in the spotlight.

I was expecting Malkin. Well, psychotic Caps fans can be happy now, I guess.

I was hoping Ovie wouldn't get both the Hart and Pearson, but it doesn't happen very often that someone gets one but not the other sadly.

Pretty damn terrible show. Some humour by Datsyuk, Ovie and Thomas were the only highlights.

I didn't read it like that at all, for what it's worth.

Jonas Gustavsson just finished his 4 city swing to see which team he will play for.

All the other cities (San Jose, Toronto, Denver) pretty much gave him a tour and had a few players talk good about the team..

But Dallas.. no we fucking treat in style. We made him throw out the first pitch at the Texas Rangers game and meet G. W Bush (Which I guess isn't a pro) but still.. wtf? :lol He better choose us.. we fucking have the best damn locker rooms and planes and shit.

We are the only logical choice.

Go to San Chokese and get May and June off, go to Toronto and get jerked off by media meatheads all off-season before participating in a years-long rebuilding process, or go to Denver and...well, there's nothing good to do in Denver.

Come to Dallas or fail. You can't run with the Big Dogs, stay on the porch.

Ovechkin received 115 first-place votes, Malkin earned 12 and Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk had four.

I'm surprised that the voting wasn't even close.

So I hear we have a new goalie? I mean, come on! I'd pick Dallas if I got to throw out a pitch at a baseball game! The best part is his contract. He's got some kind of cap on his maximum salary for the first year and then he becomes a restricted free agent and property of the team the following summer.

Bah at the voting not being close in the Hart.... Thats okay though. Ovie can have the hart, and he is a great player.

I think next year though the book is out that Washington does have a little bit of a supporting cast to help him out though.

Geno I'm sure is happy lugging around that big 35 lb champagne mug he has there....

I expect Sid to get back in the horse race next year for sure...

Grats to Sully. His first shift back and the standing O he got gave me goosebumps. Glad to see him get some recognition for everything he went through.

Now if he'd just re-sign... for cheap

I hope so. The past 2 seasons have been a little rough for Sid, despite putting up solid point totals. Ah well, he's got the Cup! WOO! PENGUINS WON, BABY!

Watching the awards now, missing a few bits because I change the channel whenever something to do with the Penguins is shown. Really am happy for Tim Thomas, guy deserved it and you could tell how genuine he is with his speech tonight.

EDIT: :lol NHL 2K10 commercial is hilariously bad.

He's really one of the nicest and most passionate guys in the league. Like any player, I'm sure he'd prefer the Cup to an individual award, but winning the Vezina must give him a huge amount of validation. He's come a long way — he's the definition of a journeyman.

Sadly most of the national media didn't even know who Evgeni Malkin was this year.

That won't be the case next year.

You got to be kidding me. People know who the fuck Malkin is, that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

:lol Awesome.

Here's the Sportsnet piece, but basically, the Coyotes (read: the creditors) want:

1. An extension to September 15th, to avoid killing the franchise by being in the Expos-zone
2. Court-ordered mediation between Balsillie/NHL/Coyotes (The NHL has refused previous attempts)
3. All relocation bids to be considered, given the money owed currently

Balsillie response: "OK! I'm extending to match your deadline. We can still move the team."
NHL response: "Uh...well...guess we'll go looking for a local buyer?" :lol

Oh really? Maybe you should turn on PTI sometime or maybe some of the regional pundits putting Malkin below Crosby and Ovechkin? I'm not saying everyone doesn't know Malkin, but a lot of the LOCAL media types in other cities who DON'T watch Penguins games didn't know enough about the guy. A lot of them thought of him of as a guy who couldn't cut it at playoff time. The fact he couldn't speak English didn't help him either. Don't pretend none of this had any effect on the voting.

If Cockford can keep his mouth shut and let Mike-Mo and Morrow lead the squad, the playoffs will be the first of many accomplishments this year.

Last time I checked, Ovechkin wasn't the greatest with English either. Why do you cite PTI? Of course ESPN doesn't know who Malkin is, they only talk about Favre all day anyway. The vast majority of people who vote for these trophies are knowledgeable hockey writers and they know damn well who Malkin is. You guys won the fucking cup, stop bitching about getting trophies that you shouldn't be getting in the first place.

Pretty sure ESPN's hockey writers know who Malkin is, too. Might not be what you're implying, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.

Malkin is big, but he's going to be in Crosby's shadow as long as he's on the same team. Crosby was groomed for attention, and Malkin was an unexpected success. It won't be until his numbers surpass Crosby's (if ever) that he starts to get more attention.

To be fair, I made the statement that Malkin was better than Crosby on this board and people said I was wrong, so it's not just the media.

I honestly believe the reason Malkin lost that badly is because people looked too much at the team he played on. Playing alongside Crosby probably took away a lot of votes--especially from those who don't watch him all the time.

I find it ludicrous that the actual owners/creditors of a team are fully willing to sell the team and relocate it yet aren't allowed to.

Isn't this just the free market deciding that the team isn't financially viable in an area like Phoenix?

Yep. And why not? The reason it's pretty much impossible for a Red Wing to win the Hart is because they're always dismissed with the "they have so many good players"-argument. The same should go for Malkin and Crosby. How can one of them be the Most Valuable Player to their team when they're both in the top 3 in scoring?

When I said ESPN I meant the Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon's of the world, two people who probably don't even get a vote in the matter anyway.

That fact that he's on the Stanley Cup champion team and won the Conn Smythe says to me that he's out of the shadow. Who cares about what people who don't follow hockey think?
