As much as I'd like to see the league lose, the judge doesn't seem to have the balls to upset the NHL and the other major sports leagues

But this isn't a precedent setting case, unfortunately for the judge and all the sports leagues

in the MLB, Bud Selig bought the Seattle Pilots in 1970 out of bankruptcy against the wishes of the league and moved them to Milwaukee [he kept pushing to acquire other baseball teams and move them back to milwaukee as their team (milwaukee braves) moved to atlanta, he almost got the white sox but ultimately failed)

Unless of course you consider the precedence being a transfer to canada, then I guess I can agree with that?

maybe that's why bettman is so afraid of balsillie, bud selig eventually became the MLB commissioner - oh noes bettman! he's after your job!

I think the Judge is leaning towards Balsille.

Man, during these few days of court sessions, I just had the image of Garry "Buttman" from Bon Cop, Bad Cop in my head. :lol :lol :lol

So how about those Flyers Winter Classic jerseys eh?

Black nameplate? A retro revival and no special twist? Bit underwhelming.

Can't believe I forgot about this.

according to darren dreger on Leafs Lunch this afternoon and eklund - kessel will probably be a leaf by monday

- should reiterate - darren dreger says leafs are front runner - eklund follows up by saying leafs and bruins are very close, one piece of trade to bruins is apparently going to be used with another trade with florida

I just managed to pick up two tickets for Toronto vs Montreal @ the ACC for Oct. 1.

They're standing room tickets, but it was the best I could get (the only thing I could get), so how is standing room at the ACC?

Habs tickets on sale today. :D

Same with Leafs

I'm going to the home opener :p Buddy and I bought purples.....we're sitting in different sections but its the opener.....against the Habs :)

And I'm going to the Leafs vs Isles in December....

Edit - Standing room isn't too bad, you just have to stand

Offtopic somewhat:

I'm gonna be leaving Barrie at 4:30 pm, it's about 100km north of Toronto, so about an hour of driving to get to the 401. Let's say I get to the 401 at 6 pm, I need to find a way to get to the ACC quickly, I dont want to waste an hour in Toronto traffic and miss the game :(

Maybe parking near a subway station is the best idea?

Yeah, you're gonna have to end up ditching you car before you reach downtown anyways so thats probably a decent idea. I don't know where you can park at though, maybe Yorkdale mall?

Got tickets for the Capitals home opener vs Leafs on Oct 3rd. Anyone know the area around the arena well? Need pregaming suggestions!

Darren dreger says heatley may be going to San Jose or Chicago (oh shit)
I've been hearing this rumor for awhile now. Campbell would be going the other way so the salaries are close to matching up, but I've heard there will be other players/picks involved too. As much as I can't stand Campbell sometimes, I'd rather have him than Heatley. Heatley does have 2 less years on his contract though, so that is a plus.

WTF at Campbell.

Doesn't he have a No trade clause? It would be HILARIOUS if he nixed the deal. :lol

Assume traffic will be bad, park at Yorkdale and subway it to Union which is connected to the ACC

Finally this mess is over. I like Michalek, Cheechoo is meh but if he somehow becomes the player he was a few years back we may be just as good with him as we were with Heatley.

Our long pre-season nightmare is finally over.

Sens did not bad considering, although I'm of the "maybe Cheechoo will never really get it back" mindset. Trading 3 arguable underperformers like this is might be a solid win for both teams in the end, or be a terrible trade for one side. Michalek should be at least as good as the last two seasons though, which would help Ottawa a lot.

Goddamn Ottawa got robbed on this one

Hard to be robbed of something that has no value. Obviously Ottawa is a less dangerous team without Heatley (although I was never a big Heatley fan, he never worked quite as hard as Spezza or Alfie) but at this point any trade was a win for Ottawa (and I guess a bigger win for the other team)

Wow, I will gladly give up Michalek and Cheechoo for Heatley. Nice.

Now trade Thornton to replenish our draft picks.

Holy shit though.

Heatley Thornton Setoguchi
Marleau Pavelski Clowe

Nice.

I really like the deal, better than that crap Edmonton was going to give us.
Yeah those San Jose players are sure seasoned in playoff performance excellence when you look at it that way. At least Heatley managed to GET to the final.

Agreed, although the only real crap in that Oil offer was Penner, but he was terrible and overpaid and lazy enough to bring down the value of both Cogliano and Smid.

One thing to note for Sharks fans, don't take Heatley's international play as an accurate indicator for his NHL play. Heatley takes his game up a good several notches during international play, something he rarely does in the regular season or the playoffs.

That actually pissed me off so much when he dominated in the world championships and then played like he couldn't give two shits when he was back in the NHL (and this was before the Sens play went down the shitter so it wasn't like the team's poor play was an unmotivating factor).

Pretty crummy return for Heatley, but it was pretty obvious that Ottawa wasn't going to get fair value for him anyways.

who knows? Ottawa got a young up and comer and someone who has faded away recently but does have the potential to put up heatley numbers

personally i think ottawa might have won this trade considering the potential value they're obtaining and now the missing distraction of heatley. you must remember how the ottawa senators systems work, basically good flow and setup. Heatley was more of a puck hog which wasn't really what would work in the ottawa system, but cheechoo? he's a pure finisher - i bet we see some impressive numbers coming from him soon
