Doens't seem like a bad deal for Ottawa

Now here's hoping Heatley has a terrible season he never bounces back from

lol, you must have not watched the 07 cup finals.

I really like the deal, better than that crap Edmonton was going to give us.
Seriously? Really?

Ottawa got FLEECED. Plain and simple.
Cheechoo is an injured has-been. Spezza is good, but Thornton is better. He might score 20 but not much more.
Michalek is good if not a little soft. Remember that Heatley is a top-3 goal scorer.
And a 2nd round pick of worthless (especially coming from the Sharks).

The Sharks basically traded Michalek for Heatley. They murdered the Sens.
Still, Heatley is a douchebag and won't add the leadership that the Sharks sorely need (though they might just brute-force their way to a cup..).

The Oilers package was actually really good:
-Penner: lazy, but surprisingly effective if you look at his underlying numbers
-Smid: up and coming shutdown d-man
-Cogliano: quick and skilled top-6 forward who's just staring his career
There's NO way I would trade Penner, Smid, and Cogs for Cheechoo and Michalek. Although I'm still undecided on whether or not I would have wanted Heatley. When he's scoring 50+ with Thornton, I'll probably wish the Oilers got him.

"According to a source, barring an absolute miracle, Heatley will be an Ottawa Senator this season. If I could rate a "non-deal" into the E-system, this would be an E5 folks."

Exactly my view of the situation.

No more C for Marleau. Check
Get rid of dead weight over-paid contracts. (Mostly) Check

Heart Transplant? Not happening until the team is fully dismantled, likely after this season due to yet another underwhelming season alongside cap implosion. However, even I think this helps our chances immensely. No more Ehrhoff, Lukowich, or Cheechoo. Thats most certainly a step in the right direction.

"Heart" wins championships, but it's not the only ingredient.
The Sharks have been unlucky in the playoffs.
They were fucking awesome in the regular season last year. And if they still have that kind of passion this year, they're going to kick all sorts of ass. I'm talking about double-digit wins. They're going to be fun to watch.

For anyone that ordered tickets from Ticketmaster before. How soon do they mail out tickets? I bought some for the Leafs January 12th game against Carolina (It was either that or Atlanta and Phoenix) but i'm wondering if I'd get them in the mail at least before Christmas so I could pass one off as a gift.

Anyone have a good NHL iPhone app suggestion?

as far as for game updates/scores I use the ESPN SportsCenter app. Works well enough plus you can set it up for whatever sports you follow and favorite teams.

Not sure if anything new has come out in the offseason, but I like the The Score's app for scores (duh) and The Hockey News apps for news and articles.

Sportacular is better. Same thing you can set your favorite teams from various sports, but they have push notifications already working, ESPN doesn't. You can customize what push alerts you want for example start of game, score change, end of period etc. Alerts are then pushed to your iPhone when one of the events happen.

Hm Sportacular sounds good.

Wish they would have something like that MLB app :(

ForzaItalia said:
Yo dude. What's the word on Modano this season. Is he back and if so, what role is he looking at?

He's back. I think he understands now that he is just a 3rd line center after Ribeiro and Richards and will probably be playing on a checking line with Steve Ott and Brunnstrom or Lehtinen..

Though I have a feeling Ribeiro and Morrow will really push for Lehtinen to be on the top line with them..

That leaves Brad Richards, Loui Eriksson and James Neal on the 2nd line.

I'll give a 2nd vote for Sportacular. Correct me if I'm wrong but the ESPN app just gives scores and not stats/boxscores last I checked. Sportacular looks a little ghetto but it definitely gets the job done.

Yeah forgot about that. I tried ESPN when it was first released, it's complete shit in terms of stats and what not. Sportacular has got everything covered, I even have my Italian Serie A soccer scores through it. I love the push alerts, can't wait to get them into full swing when hockey starts.

Here's some example screens:

Exactly what could Ottawa have done? Keep someone on the team who deosnt want to be there and shit up the whole locker room?

This deal is way better than that shitty Edmonton one. Penner :lol

Ottawa finally has some good depth, and wont need to rely on 3 players.

Still irritated about the board play sucking a player into an animation even when they're skating full speed. That's going to kill the game online this year.

Wow, I will gladly give up Michalek and Cheechoo for Heatley. Nice.

Now trade Thornton to replenish our draft picks.

Holy shit though.

Heatley Thornton Setoguchi
Marleau Pavelski Clowe

Nice.
Pretty much agree. I'm so glad Marleau is still on the team. Would have been absolutely terrible if we traded him. And yeah, those top two lines are looking fucking dominant.

DW just pissed off the thousands of people I see at games with Cheechoo jerseys :lol

Speaking of which, my mate in Van just got our tickets for the March 23rd Ducks @ Canucks game! I'm so goddamn excited.. My first hockey game with my home team and my team. I'm expecting there won't be a big cut-throat atmosphere since it's not a Canadian on Canadian rivalry match or anything, but given the circumstances it's the game I want to see more than any this season (behind the next few ANA@SJ games).

That's a rivalry that people don't notice much.

The Canucks and Ducks have scored the shit out of each other every time they've played.

We can agree to disagree here, Penner made that Oilers offer garbage. I would much rather have Chechoo at 3 million cap hit for 2 years than Penner at 4.25 million cap hit for 3 years. Not only is he easier to buy out than Penner if he doesn't perform, but he works hard as well, the same can't be said about Penner. Penenr's contract is one of the top 10 worst contracts in the NHL today.

Michalek by himself is better than the Oilers offer.

That's the beauty of the blank.

I'm excited to be heading to Colorado in the beginning of the season, since I'll be taking in an Avalanche/'Nucks game. The 'Nucks are my 2nd favorite team, so that should be a great time.

Edit: I guess I should have mentioned I'm from Buffalo, hence my excitement. Whoops haha

Yeah, good luck with Heatley, it's not like SJ already doesn't have a big enough problem with underachievers when it comes to the playoffs, but now they one big solid line of it.

Marleau- Thornton- Heatley.

Can't wait for that 2010 cup run.

Mmmm so training camp kicks off.. and it looks like Jamie Benn is vying for a spot on the starting roster. Apparently Dallas Morning News is saying the top line will be Ribeiro and Morrow and someone else.. Maybe Fabian Brunnstrom. But they say that Jamie Benn may be playing that spot in Right Wing as well and they are thinking of sticking him there.

Would be interesting since he doesnt even have AHL experience. I honestly doubt they will though. But Jamie Benn is like a fucking god so who knows.

There is no yellow or gold at all. They have brought in a steel grey, same blue color and some other shades of grey to the logo. Same Pred logo...just different color scheme.

The arms and bottom have two white stripes separating a thick middle stripe. The middle stripe is black and blue checkers. Tie on the front.

Thats it. Looks cool from far. But, the checkers is kind of dumb up close. From far away the checkers are not noticeable.

That was from July 4th. The pic is a user created image. So I guess they were pretty close.

Larry Quinn, managing partner of the Buffalo Sabres was on Leafs Lunch with Bill Watters on AM 640 Toronto today. He let slip that the Sabres are migrating to wearing the retro sweaters full time. Audio isn't up on the website yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. Thought you'd like to know. Goodbye Buffaslug!

YES YES YES YES YES

Edit: Upon further thinking, I realized they're going to do one of two things: Switch back to the classic design completely, which is unlikely. Or keep the retro 3rd jersey and make it the regular, in which case we'd have to see a newly minted away version. Hmm... I'm curious to see what they come up with.

This... but in white? I'm kind of hoping they do something a little different for the away.
