GDC: GDC 07 Impressionsà
Although GDC hasn't officially started, here are some early observations.
GDC is getting huge: With E3 in disarray, more publishers elected to show upcoming games at what is widely a developer focused show (hence the name Game Developers Conference). We're swamped with appointments.
Peter Molyneux needs to calm down: We appreciate Mr. Molyneux's passion for creating deep, meaningful games, but listening him talk about unconditional love at this morning's Fable 2 event made us a bit queasy. Caring for a dog... we dig that. Listening to someone go on about how we're going to love this virtual animal... nah. Or maybe we'll care. His delivery was a bit forced.
People will respect Sony: The time has come for video game journalists to stop earning a living bashing Sony and give the publisher its due. Tomorrow morning, the company will roll out its latest PlayStation 3 initiative as well as a very innovative video game, and anyone that criticizes them for that should be beaten. This is really cool stuff.
The GDC bag sucks: Comfortably rests over one's shoulder. Looks like a handbag. We're not down with that.
Parties galore: Everyone's throwing some sort of bash. There's so much free alcohol that at least one person attending the show will eventually crawl their way out of a bottle...thirty years from now. Seriously, all journalists should be raging alcoholics given the amount of free booze at these things. Hello, my name is [INSERT NAME HERE], and I have a problem.
EA makes sweet love to Harmonix: Guitar Hero is old news. Harmonix is working on a more ambitious game and EA is publishing it. We like where this is going.
Warhawk rocks: Multiplayer-only Warhawk is lots of fun. People shoot from the ground. People shoot from the air. Things explode. We approve.
