Official Phil Harrison Keynote @ GDC Thread.

My mechanics class ends half an hr before the keynotes... but it takes me an hr and a half to reach home (subway FTW). Lets hope i dont miss anything within that hr, cause i love NeoGAF and the responses :)

You can always relive it by reading the thread. But I have a feeling if I stop reading this, I'll never be able to catch up and read the entire thread. EPIC thread in progress.

Hey Jim, how about archiving the thread that got Kotaku unbanned, got gofreak an awesome tag and broke some serious news. Especially since it's locked now anyway.

I think that the best thing Phil can announce in this keynote is a price cut of the PS3.

:lol

More like functionality that the PS3 SHOULD have....would be the best announcement. Oh yeah and games that make you go: " Oh ok thats why i want a PS3. "

No remember, PS3 owners will be very happy today, so a price cut announcement is a given.

Owners = Already bought it. Why would owners care about a price drop? They wouldnt. Its features as already stated in the press release.

Some tidbits from modojo
http://forums.modojo.com/showthread.php?t=147627

The main component of the company's new push is a service called Home. Accessed through the PlayStation3 console, Home allows users to build identities known in the online world as avatars. Users can move through the 3D online Home world to interact with other users. As in "Second Life," users can also purchase items such as apartments, clothing and decorations.

One feature of home will tie into other PS3 games. Players will be able to collect trophies and other objects from their various console games and add them to the Home world.

The lack of a price cut announcement is a given, you mean. A price cut would make people who are not yet owners of PS3 happy. It would make current owners feel violated. Or European.

±1hr and 40 mins left!!

I'm thinking many GAFfers will fall by the end of this day.

I (hope to) see banned people. :)

EDIT: FYI: touche

So do you guys, and then especially those of you who have already seen it, think that the whole Home idea is the basis for the empty room setting in the PS3 ads? I've always liked the simplicity of the setting itself, but now it rings a bit of something more symbolic.

Home sounds great and all but right now I want Sony to fix all the FW mistakes:

Upscale DVDs
Access XMB during games
Custom Backgrounds
720p Bluray playback
Ability to play PS1 and PS2 games from PSN store. (remember this? What happened?)

Fixing these issues NOW will make me happier then something that won't be out for another 6 months at the least.

I hope this will be adressed today.

It feels like we're running in circles here...

Everyone is getting antsy for the impending assplosion. I fear another new thread will need to get started prior to the conference... and then another one right after it's over.

Another thing I hope even more then the price cut, is that Sony will not copy Nintendo in some way again, because their Sixaxis controller is the most useless thing ever (overal because PS3's sales are not influenced by this at all).

Follow your own path, Sony.

what?

You clearly haven't played fl0w yet.
SIXAXIS is fantastic... and I can't wait to see what talented designers (i.e. folks at Konami, Square, Capcom, Team ICO) do with it.

Yeah I wasn't really interested in SIXAXIS until I played fl0w. Oh, how quickly my mind changed! Of course it isn't meant to be as fully-featured as the Wii setup but it's still cool.

Why does MS have a patent on in-game messaging? Or custom soundtracks for that matter? You're the one dreaming if you think Sony of all people won't steal / match a feature people love.

They don't, but for the feature to not have been there from the beginning tells me it's not as easy to implement as some may think...

I'm no troll btw, so stop slinging the term around at any and everyone w/ a difference of opinion. You look stoopid.

Imagine what LocoRoco for the PS3 will be like.

I know, but it is not helping the PS3 selling in the world. What I mean is that Sony with this conference must not make fans happy and nothing more. They have to demonstrate that they are not in decline and that they still can react. And they can do that with some big annoncements that have big conseguences on PS3's sales. Re-read: SALES, because that's the problem of the PS3 (overall in Japan).

Big exclusive games are important. Then, they have to show that Blu-Ray is a vector for the machine (because now, the general impression is that High definition is not ready); Sony has to show this impression is wrong !
Then, Sony has to show something new, but not copying Nintendo.
They have to show the OnLine too, but not as Microsoft has made.

Shortly, Sony has to show that they are really following their path and overlal that they have faith in that path: the have to convince the developers that PS3 CAN really become the leader.

I expect a lot of force in Phil's words and not only stupid thing to make fans happy.
