Official Phil Harrison Keynote @ GDC Thread.

Anyway, I agree with whoever said HOME, as a matchmaking service, seems way too cumbersome. I hope there is a standard, more streamlined way to send invites and initiate a game without having to jump into HOME and walk around looking for your buddies.

Virtual cell phones? =P

They will definitely maintain the old way of communicating, as in "Search for friends" or "friend list" when you're at your private home...

This is Sony we are talking about. They know their future and the future is secure... I hope we get a chance to beta-test :)

EDIT: PUBLIC BETA TEST? WHERE DOES IT SAY!!!!!!!!??? :O:O

Ok who is building the Gaf Resistance FOM Clan Center and where do we send donations?
Would also be great if you can have a pc in your house and just click on it to pull up the web browser from inside.

Yea, totally :D
Reminds me of the beta. We should get a invite thread going asap, we need GAF to domination the moment beta is open for public. :D

There's something that I really can't get my head round in the HOME concept. This arcade that they are talking about in HOME. They were showing off all the old arcade style cabinets with the games in them.

But if I'm on a PS3, logged HOME, playing one of these arcade games. Are you telling me, that I'll be sitting in my house, watching on my TV, my avatar playing an arcade game? Or will the arcade game fill the screen while I, through my avatar, play it.

Will the games also be availible as stand alone downloads on PSN like Q*Bert for example.

How long before Sony gets hit with complaints and lawsuits because of all the underage kiddies posting nudie pics for their virtual walls?

I think only your friend can visit you Home. Besides, you can see porn on website even if you are 5yrs old with a simple disclaimer to avoid being suited.

Imagine a GAF assemble in Home community ... :D

Exactly... it's awesome to have a community option like this to do things like have a meeting place before a night of Warhawk, Resistance, Socom, etc, etc...

And it seems they just took a user interface, for example, the XMB, and gave it a life in a virtual world... which is cool...

It fills the screen. It shows that in the video.

Same things happen with things like Pool and Bowling. One of the liveblogs commented on it in a positive way...

Second Life has a huge number of problems with it, despite the concept being interesting. There are a lot of barriers to entry and enjoyment in terms of interface and world design. It's not necessarily a good comparison until we have hands-on with HOME, but I'm willing to bet it's a lot more slick than SL is.

Maybe they arent trolling. Just cause they dont orgasm over the same stuff as you doesnt mean they hate it. Home looks great and is certainly better then what was expected but to act like home is the end of the console wars is kinda silly.

Its definetly obvious while Home "Basic" is free Home "Premium Content" is gonna cost quite the premium.

People get excited over .... achievements.
People get excited over .... The Mii's.

Then those people don't get excited about Sony's Home. And you don't call it trolling?
I can't see how someone could get excited over the concepts of achievements and The Mii's when Sony's idea blows them out of the water.

As normal GAF goes overboard and underboard. Home is pretty neat no doubts although saying that its functions will be lost on me I'm just not into all this character creations and 2nd life stuff a friends list, stats and othe rLIVE functions would have been fine by me. Its good to see that many people do want it so much though and tends to show how Sony taps into these things so quickly. Further as this is a developer confrence there seems little doubt that this is being line up as a cash cow, new T-SHIRT okay $ please.
Littlebigadventure is bloody neat and looks fantastic, now that something that as a non PS3owner such as me would interest me, but not at £425.

That was a pretty good showing, I just wish that Sony didn't hype it up for the PS3 owner, because it was clearly for the PS3 developer. Nevertheless, it was awesome. LITTLE BIG PLANET!!!

Really what's to match? It basically IS animal crossing. The part that's inovative is actually the only part that interests me: Sharing video and audio content from your PS3. It's also the part that worries me the most because the posibilities for technical hicups are major.

There is a lot that Animal Crossing would have to match, mainly in terms of ease of use. The trailer shows dozens of people interacting at the same time, whereas with Animal Crossing DS, the online visits were hindered by friendcodes and the lengthly interruptions involved in people entering and exiting your town. As well, there was a limit of 4 people allowed in your time at once. Finally is no real central place in Animal Crossing either like there is in Home.

Yeah, but that's not pics of underage people, you can't really control who views. In this case Sony would be hosting child pornography and viewed by minors.

Home looks pretty awesome, it's suddenly a lot harder to keep that $600 in my wallet. If they can play up the music/movie sharing I think it'll rock, imagine being able to browse through someone's library and listen to any track you want, on the fly.

Oh and stop meta-complaining guys, pretty much everyone is agreeing that this looks great.

Are you f*cking kidding me? It's like you Nintendo fans are from another planet.
And you Sony fans are just super with your jumping to the conclusion that someone pointing out pretty obvious parallels = Nintendo fanboy. I wasn't attacking them.

You cant mess with the public space... but you can put those in your private space. I dont expect to see lawsuits cause thats how "Second Life" is, or any other game like that...

Hell, you can even send porn via the current PS3 network. If you accept someone as a friend, you should know who they are...

Did Second Life face those issues?

Wouldn't everything in your home be distributed peer to peer to the guests you invite? The logistics of storing all of the data of everyone's houses would be impractical.

After 34 hours of being awake, I finally head towards hitting the sack. Its March the 7th & I'm happy. <kittowny emoticon>

The calm after the storm....Little Big Planet rocks so much :|

Now, I hoped they would have shown Sixaxis with rumble to developers...maybe in E3. Cross your fingers...

Early 2008 PS3 with rumble, little big planet, home, a pricedrop hopefully...yummy yummy.

I don't know how it works. But for Sony's own good, they better not host anything.

Pretty sure it would be peer-to-peer, but then again, your house wouldn't be visitable if your PS3 is off. No late-night trashings of other people's home :(

gaf movie night?

Eh, who wants to watch a compressed streaming video when you have a built in BR player? And you know there's going to be some crazy DRM or something to prevent full movies from being watchable.

This stuff is great. I don't care what ideas were stolen from where. The console competition is not dominated by anyone at this point so it's going to make all sides try their hardest I think. This stuff from Sony looks really cool and it's going to be fun seeing how Nintendo and MS generate their own buzz with interesting extras.

I am kinda curous how that will work. and the storage of information. They are gonna need some super servers to process everything happening smoothly

Great, great news about Home and LBP.

Now, can someone please find out from Phil if MotorStorm will have a friends list soon?? Sheesh. :lol

Everything in your home is your own. Sony can't do shat about it, nor can the government... It's called Privacy :) I'm sure it will have a LONG-ASS "Terms of Service" and it will include

"Accept friends at your own risk. If they invite you to their home and if you see some pornography on the wall, then we will have no control over it..."

It's not like they will virtual rape you. You can exit anything you know :lol

LBP = very cool

Home = meh - I turn my console on to play games. I dont plan on sitting in imaginary home talking to people. I send an invite and then talk via voice to friends/family while we play a game/watch movie/etc.

The conference was a major letdown as they didnt say a word on the firmware update coming before euro launch. Killzone stuff behind closed doors got torn up by those that saw it. And then everything that was good, isnt coming out till fall or 2008.

pretty good. But i wanted more games.

LBP is awesome.

Absence about news Firmware uptade so frustated.

meh Keynote

Only LBP is fuucking awesome.

LBP looks awesome

the rest was meh... PSH looks like Sims Online or Second Life

nothing special really...

but then again LBP looks really really awesome

did i mention how awesome LBP looks..?

So I was thinking what a Sony guy said a few years ago, that eventually there would be no 'menus', just a virtual world where there are different activities. There's a great chance here for in-world advertising and networking for full titles. Like when a major game releases, there would be a little section in the virtual world where there would be TVs playing trailers, an arcade booth with a demo, novelty clothing give aways.

Fixed for reality. I'd much rather see that communal meeting place persisted apart from the game I'm actually playing rather than breaking into and out of "lobby mode". It would better match the paradigm of getting everyone together on the same group of (though virtual) couches in one "place".
