Official PSP 1.50 exploit thread (proper loader has arrived)

Wow, SNES emu runs great with sound off, and frameskip 1, clocked to 333. Even Donkey Kong Country runs really, really nice, and so does every other game I tried except for Yoshi's Island which doesn't work at all (PSP just freezes upon the ROM loading and powers down after couple of seconds) Has anyone made Yoshi's Island work?

Good thing is after you do the swap once, you can play as many games within one emu as you want.

Also, question for Megadrive emulator (v0.53), Where you I change the settings? (set CPU clock, etc)

Shit, I brought everything to my work, expecting to test it from here ....

- PSP US .... check
- 1GB SanDisk .... check
- USB Cable .... check
- 2nd Memory card .... nope

Now I have to wait until tonight to try the emulators :*(

Perhaps you can answer my question. :P Is the swap required everytime you return to the home screen?

Just a quick question, read this on the comments section of psphacker.com

To all others: as clearly stated in the how-to you don't have to swap when the app loads, just highlight the loader in psp game menu, swap the memory stick and then press X to launch the app!

Can someone here confirm that you can do it this way, and not during the whole 'chime' and white PSP screen? Thank you.

Anyone know how to access the menu/system/whatever with the SNES emulator? I can't seem to change the settings or get to any menu...

*accidentally hits analog stick...*

Oh...-_-

To the PSP home menu with XMB? Yes, definitely need to re-swap when you want to run any emu again. The home meny of emu itself - no.

Push the analog stick left.

Can someone here confirm that you can do it this way, and not during the whole 'chime' and white PSP screen? Thank you.
Doesn't seem to work that way as as soon as you remove the stick, that section in the XMB menu disappears.

hopefully sleep mode works ok with these homebrew/exploit. i guess i'll have my NES emulator in sleep mode forever :P

this some sweet stuff. games are runnning flawless with 333 mhz clocked

Dear Hori,

Thanks for putting those Memory Stick slots in all your products. No, seriously, I really appreciate it now.

Just a tip-off for people that want affordable small-sized memory sticks... call or go to your local Toys R Us and find out if they're being closed and remodeled into a Babies R Us. The odds of this are especially good if you live in an area with two or more stores within a couple miles of each other (like I do).

Right now, in stores that are being remodeled, accessories are 50% off... they normally sell 128MB memory stick duos for $40... so that's $20.

I'm having issues swapping.. I hit the button to launch the swapper, and immediately take out the first MS and put in the second.. if I screw up and don't get it in perfectly, the JNes screen shows up without roms.. if I do it perfect, it doesn't load.. any thoughts?

First, put the weed down.

2. Look the ROMs are probably in a different directory, just look around.

Okay, the weed is down because I'm out..

and it's not the problem of not finding roms, it's getting the swap to work properly.. if I mess up and only get the MS in half way, then it'll show JNES.. if I swap perfectly, it just goes to the black screen

EDIT: And now that my dumbass made a directory for roms, it doesn't die.. thanks Senor Miguel

Having just tried it myself:

+Works great using the performance tweaks mentioned in this thread (frameskip 2, audio 22khz, transparency off). If you want transparency on, then you might want to up the clockspeed.

+Pretty easy to do things once you get the loader going.

-Not a fan of having frameskip/audio set to the other analog directions. I'd prefer any direction to just load the menu.

-Swap method does suck, so hopefully something better comes around in the future.

Can someone explain this process to someone who's never used an EMU before? I read the tutorial but I'm confused to all hell about what's what. Example:

I hypothetically DL the Jnes EMU. It's a zip file but it says nothing anywhere about PBP. What exactly am I supposed look for when I'm in the "PBP File" browser of the Mswap program? And I assume once that process is done I have to actually find the games that run on said EMU, what file does that go in?

Any down side to running the emulators in 333Mhz mode? Apart from PSP using more battery power?

Heat issues etc, what about them?

Okay.. now this is weird.. when I load up JNES, I go to the roms folder and hit circle, and then it freezes.. anyone else have this?

EDIT: Looks like I had too many roms in one folder, split them up and they work.

Haven't run into that yet (although obviously I've hardly been using that mode). I'd be really interested to see some battery life figures and then compare them to UMD access - something tells me 333MHz + memory stick might still be better off than 222MHz + UMD.

No idea.. but I have managed to scew up the emulator by uploading some roms to the stick.. then rebooting everything and now psp refuses to load because it says it isnt a game... sweet.
swaping seems to be quite dangerous with corrupted data etc.

You know you have to do the swap trick every time you load an emu, right?

this has really nothing to do with the 1.50 Exploit but i just added some games to my memory stick in the folder

E: PSP/Game/

folder

when i navigate to the memorystick area on my PSP and i enter the memorystick it says that "corrupt data"

should it be like that?

or should it say the name of the file i added?

Bingo. Sounds like he pressed HOME on the 2nd MS (which lists all the EMUs as corrupted data due to lack of .sfo file and .icon).

Yes. Basically, you've put roms in a folder where the PSP is expecting something else, so it's just saying "wtf is this?" and then not doing anything about it.

I tried doing this with one stick, but there is just no way. I have my laptop sitting here, so I tried booting the loader, pulling the stick out, plugged it into the laptop, quickly copied the file, and then placed it back in the PSP. No go. Needs to be much quicker, obviously. :P

The second file (not the loader) always shows up as corrupted data, it seems. So, if you are seeing corrupted data in the game folder, check which file is on that stick.

I think instead of buying a second memory stick and having all the trouble it is easier to buy a 1.0 PSP from ebay and selling your 1.5

btw. the surprise they mentioned was it that you need a second memory stick?

ok thanks.

no i just need to get myself a second memorystick and start playing i guess...

i am preparing to install alot of games on my Memory stick so when i get the 1.50 Exploit on my PSP i can just start playing the games.

or would that be a waste of time as i still have to move them/reinstall later again when i get the 1.50 exploit on my PSP?

Quick question, can you have more than 1 emulator on a single memory stick.

Yes, you can have lots, but you can only load one per swap.

You just make one folder for each one (the launch on MS1, and the data on MS2). Then you choose which one you want on the first stick (SNES, MD etc) and do the swap to actually finish loading it.

Just follow THIS post and do it manually. You can prepare one of the MS now if you want.

The exploit is just a file. So for SNES9x, all you really end up having is:

Stick 1: PSP/GAMES/SNES9X/the file
Stick 2: PSP/GAMES/SNES9X/the other file + your games

You could load up stick 2 now if you really wanted; there's no actual "install" process onto the sticks beyond making the folder and copying the file.

I'm going to have to revisit this when I have time and my second memory stick (the original 23 MB one) handy.

The NES emulators are all working at decent speed with sound, yes?

Here's looking out for MAME....

I was going to stop at Best Buy today for the $29.99 128MB card BuddyC mentioned after I stopped at Circuit City for Kirby Canvas Curse. While waiting for someone to help me in the Games section at Circuit City I saw they had the 256MB Pro Duo sticks for $29.99 after $10.00 MIR, so I picked that up instead. Not a bad deal for anyone that hasn't picked up their second stick yet.

psp emulation kicks ass. some snes games run pretty well if you can find the right settings

concerning the swap trick though...anyone afraid of corrupted their memory sticks because they swapped too late? is it possible to mess up the sticks this way? i sometimes have trouble getting the damn stick to click in but i haven't failed in swapping yet. i feel like george costanza trying to open a condom

Damn, my 32MB one is up at school. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait a few days to try it out. At least there's an exploit now, regardless of the steps you have to take each time to use it.

Yes, actually, I'm afraid of the same thing. I don't think it can hose the stick, but I guess I'll be backing up all the data on it frequently for awhile.

But I can't seem to get that or the SNES emulator working. I'm doing something wrong, I just know it. Oh well.

That's because you have to do this:

The SNES emu works if you do it the manual way. Keep the eboot.pbp it created for MS 1.

Download PBP Unpacker, open the original downloaded eboot.pbp and extract the "data.psp", rename it to eboot.pbp and stick it on MS 2.

SNES now works fine :)

Thanks for the heads up. I want a huge card for movies and stuff sooner or later, but I'm not super interested in that right now so this is a pretty decent deal. Thanks!

oh, you have it loaded i see...but roms aren't showing? the roms have to be in the same directory and in .SMC extension

Third time's a charm. I finally get to the boot up screen with the white backgroung and the psp logo. Once I insert the second stick, it takes me to the home screen and under mem stick it tells me the data is corrupted. This is for the NES EMU. Any help is appreciated.

The ROMS are showing, I can browse through the list and such ...it's just that nothing happens when I choose them.

edit: Wait, .SMC?

Crap.

This is probably a silly question, but you do have firmware 1.50 and not 1.51 or 1.52? This exploit doesn't work on later firmware versions. Also, you only have a window of about 5 seconds or less to insert the second stick, if you miss it you might also get the problem you describe.

Everything works like a charm :D

I have been playing NES and GB/GBC games all morning :D

This rocks so much :D
