ah ok, shit but then i need a Card reader on my PC!!!!

ahhh i hate this shit, why cant they make something thats easy to use :(

I recommend a cheap usb cable instead. Be sure to get the right one though. Card readers can mess up as far as I know and the one I am using is a good example of that.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried using one of those 'dual' sticks (Magic Gate x2) that have a switch on them?

whoa...last night i thought this hack was useless. now that ive got everything set up it rocks. honestly, you dont need to be super quick qhen swapping. ive dropped my roms memcard trying to put it in, regathered, opened the memstick flap and put it in (about 9 seconds) and it still works. if it doesnt load youve done something wrong.

and OMG donkey kong country runs near perfect! nba jam rocks hard too

Which SNES emulator are you using? I've yet to find one that runs games well with everything enabled. With minimal features and the normal window size, most games run pretty well.

Oh well, it's still early. Hopefully the rest of the world will join in now that the 1.5 exploit is out.

So immediately after launching from MS1, you can enter into sleep mode? If this is a possible way of doing the switch I would be far more interested. I don't like ripping the card out of there in a hurry.

dark, couple pages back you said you found the "right" genesis emu...which one is that? Thx.

MEGADRIVE for PSP 0.22

It isn't great, but all games are quite playable. Hopefully some more progress will be made soon. We need to get either the GENs author or Steve Snake working on one of these. :P

I did not think this was possible. I tried that yesterday, and it didn't respond to the sleep command when showing the PSP logo.

I can't get the machine to go into sleep mode untill well after the psp logo has turned black. If i then change the MS and put the systemback on it just says it the game cannot be started, and returns to the psp menu.

This the one without sound?

I found it ran really well as well, but I miss my sound. :(

Well, the previous version lacked sound. I haven't tried this one yet, but I assumed it could only be better. The readme does say that the Z80 has been "revived" (in reference to the changes made to this new version released today).

Nevermind, don't use that one. Sound is enabled, but it sounds really bad and causes the emu to run much slower.

you downloaded the swaploit file right? installed it? download whatever emulater you want, put the pbp file into the first line of the swaploit utility, output it to whatever directory. go to that directory and there should be an output folder with folders labeled 1 and 2. put those on your respective memory sticks.

PLAIN ENGLISH GUIDE TO MAKING THE SWAP TRICK WORK

For those who are having difficulty getting it to work, follow these simple steps (edited from PSPhacker for GAF-related confusion):

Make sure your PSP version number is 1.50

Make sure you have two mem sticks.

Go to PSPhacker.com before Sony's lawyers get there in their black van.

FIRST - get the Swaploit app. Install the motherfucker. Actually needed a restart on my PC for some reason, may not on yours, mmkay?

Now:

Download any homebrew app/game including the emulators. Good idea to get some ROMs too.

Run the MSwap Tool

Click the "..." button to Select the EBOOT.PBP you wish to use - an EBOOT.PBP is the file you want from say, your SNES emulator zip file extraction.

Select an Output directory (the place the NEW files will be saved to. All the files end up with the same name (so that the PSP can recognize them) so it's a good idea to think about where you're putting this. and for the purposes of clarity, let's pretend we're installing a SNES emulator, so we're going to name some folders SNESEM - but you could call the last mem stick folder location anything you like, as long as you use the first part of the folder hierarchy.

Click “Generate files”

You’re now left with two directories - MS1 and MS2 in the location you chose.

Copy the EBOOT.PBP (a very small file) from the MS1 directory to your first memory stick (ideally, your smaller, crappier mem stick) (MS) - X:\PSP\GAME\SNESEM

Remove the first Memory Stick and insert the second one (ideally, your fat 1GB megastick)

Copy the EBOOT.PBP file from the MS2 directory into X:\PSP\GAME\SNESEM (note you are exactly replicating the folder hierarchy to trick the PSP into thinking both memory sticks are the same one.

It would be a good idea to get some suitable ROMs on memory stick 2 at this time. They go IN the same folder as the emulator you're using. In this example SNESEM

Remove Memory Stick 2 and insert Memory Stick 1 again.

Go to the Game menu on your PSP and select Memory Stick

Select the PSP-Dev Launcher - this will be a very obvious icon. If you see an icon claiming to be corrupt data, you've either done it wrong, or you currently have memory stick 2 in by accident.

The moment PSP logo screen comes on, swap memory sticks - you have time, but be quick and careful.

Voila! You’re playing an emulator on your 1.50 PSP!

It looks complex, but if you follow it step by step, it's EASY and it's kind of a one time deal.

you said you create a folder called SNESEM

do i have to have a specific folder for it?

cant i just put the things in the GAME folder?

PSP/GAME/ and in here i have the roms, emu?

or do i have to do it like this

PSP/GAME/NEWFOLDER/and within that one i have roms and emu´s

the latter. So if you were navigting it on your PSP the directory structure would be like:

PSP/GAME/SNESEM/ <---place files in here

BOTH MEMORY STICKS MUST HAVE THE SAME DIRECTORIES. This can't be stressed enough.

PSP/GAME/SNES/EBOOT.PBP #1 IN FIRST STICK
PSP/GAME/SNES/EBOOT.PBP #2 IN SECOND STICK MAKE A SUBFOLDER CALLED ROMS ON THE SECOND STICK WITHIN THE SNES FOLDER

You're a good man Stinkles, I know I would have benefitted greatly from this info when I started this process.

You have to put the emus in seperate folders. (SNES9X folder, NESTERJ folder, RIN folder) as that is what seperates the eboots from each other.

Depending on the emulator you can actually place roms anywhere on the card (Both NesterJ and Rin have rom browsers to search for the rom folder after you start the ap.) Other emus you have to place in the emu's dir. That should change within the next week or so as new versions come out.

Also, some emus and aps REQUIRE a certain directory name to be placed in the PSP/GAME folder (I know the Doom app requires DOOM-PSP or it WILL NOT work) To be safe I always use the exact dir name they use as the example in the readme file.

You don't need to make a sub folder for the roms (I didn't anyway).

Playing Punch Out and Ninja Turtles on the subway is bliss. :D

every emu must be in its own directory under PSP/GAME, otherwise PSP will probably not find it. You can put the roms any where you want as far as I know. And a lot of the emus support zipped roms like the nes and the snes emu.

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend some good PC Engine shooters (aside from those mentioned above)? Is Tatsujin the same game as Truxton? It doesn't seem to want to run for me anyway, mind you.

Tatsujin is indeed Truxton and it works for me on vo.6 (pretty good shooter too). Also there is a ton of shooters on PCE.. here are some reviews if you like: linkl

It is now possible to add custom animation, music, backgrounds, and icons to PSP programs in the menu. We here at Dual-Scene.com are the first to accomplish this. You can see in person with any version PSP by downloading "NES Plus" in the "Downloads" section. Copy the Mem1 contents into your memory stick/PSP/Games/ folder. You dont have to run it to see how cool this is.

If you want to run the emulator, copy the Mem2 folder into your second memory stick and follow the Swap meathod proceedures (1.5 only).

aero blaster, and the ones musashi recommended in this thread are awesome.

I am really interested in buying a PSP now... I am not interested in any of the actual PSP games... but the ability to play all of my Turbo Grafx 16 games is exciting.

Plus a few MAME games for the wife to play (Ms. Pac-Man or Galaga)...

How are "real" MAME arcade classics running on the PSP?

Any word on a solution for OSX users? I am loathe to acquire to a copy of Virtual PC, but if that's the only way, I'll do it.

I think you can get a package with all of the emulators set up for the swap trick on psphacker.com - from that point all you have to do is copy stuff to your PSP over USB cable.

does anybody know how the exploit works? whay does the PSP believe the game on the second mem stick is a corretly signed version???

Galaxian and Bosconian both run perfectly. Other than that I haven't tried Mame too much. This PSP build has craploads of games enabled but most of my favorites are not there, and some of the games on the list obviously will never work (Tekken, Ridge Racer...) Also, for many games you will need older ROM sets that worked on MAME 0.71 but have since then been upgraded/replaced for newer MAMEs.

hahahah they left in drivers for those games?

Can someone help. When I download the file, it shows up as: swaploit_1.5_psp-dev

When I try to run this, it doesn't do anything. Am I supposed to put this on the MS before I do anything?

Probably, and if they did thinking they would work, they are idiots.

On the other hand, 1941, 1942, Donky Kong and tons of other classics are missing. Some games like Donkey Kong Jr. are only supported through some weird "Moon Cresta hardware" variant.

Some games like Pac-Land or Rolling thunder can be started but they hang at various early spots. For Pac Land theres a problem that it won't accept coins, but you can see the game is running really nice in the attract mode. Rolling Thunder hangs at test screen.
