How do you get Genesis roms to work? Do you have to change the file format to .smd? And, if so, how do you do that?

Yeah you'll need to change them over to .SMD Just rename them and you'll be set. Theres no software needed, just right click and choose rename.

Btw-incase you haven't read the earlier threads above, don't load a billion roms onto each emulator,I found out the hard way, heh.

Yeah rename to .smd.

In windows explorer click Tools, Folder Options, View, Uncheck Hide Known Extensions.

Then just rename the extension to .smd

This thread is worthless without (1.51) exploit pics... :(

also, you can only use these settings in the snes 9x y** versions. the new .003 official release doesnt have all the cool extra settings. but .003 has better compataibilty (it supports super metroid, super mario all stars and other games)
awesome, i'm playing chrono trigger right now :D

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried using one of those 'dual' sticks (Magic Gate x2) that have a switch on them?

Now that sounds intriguing...I would like to know as well. That would be a lot more convenient when you're 'on the go'.

What's the largest they come in? I only see them in 256 (128x2).

Someone throw some SNES game names at me...

I am a big fan of the side scrolling beat em ups and finished Turtles In Time and Final Fight III about 10 times each today :)

Any genres will do but if their is any "must play" side scrollers then please tell me and there is no need to post a link to them I just need the names.

I was going to start a thread on this-we should post the top 10 games for each emulated system. That way it would save us the time of goign through the hundreds of roms we have, heh.

Umm to answer to question though-have you played the adventures of batman and robin? That was quite a good one in its day. Super Star Wars is another. And by all means play Alien 3,it really is an awesome platformer mixed in with shooting. The music is great also, but then the music in the emulator doesn't work all that well does it?

Thanks Angelus

A new thread on the best games would be great, I have been trawling through this thread trying to get a few but it would be better if they were all on there own. I will try the games you said tomorrow cause right now I rememebers a little title called contra 3 :)

edit: thanks captainflimflam (how did i forget battletoads)

no problem matey. if you're trying run and gun games too. check out assault suit valken (US name Cybernator). ah man!! just realised i can play goemon again with all those hidden games.

i dont even remember doing it, but i just checked my psp and i must have updated to version 1.51 a week or so ago. i have a warranty to trade it in anytime for a new one and since emulation is the only reason i haven't sold this thing off yet i'm thinking of using it to get a new one. anyone know what version the brand new store copies are at the moment?

After messing with that SNES emu some more, I also got it to run most games at very smooth speeds. Umihara Kawase on the go is sweet! :D

Please share what you did, also what is umihara kawase?

Umihara Kawase is a SNES platformer based on swinging around (using a fishing rod, no less) with pretty damn fun physics. Great game.

I wonder of there could be a trick into having the two EBOOT.PBP files on the same card and just popping out the card and popping it back in to get this to work.

It's already been pointed out in this thread. You could pop the mem stick out of the PSP, stick it in a PC, rename the files (with a batch file), and put it back in the PSP. I don't see how this is any easier, since you'll always have to be near a PC.

Don't know if it been answered yet but in the video they were able to go from the firmware screen to the launcher and rom, how did they do it?

I don't know if this has been explained in the thread yet but the swaploit works like this:

i. psp checks the loader to verify the EBOOT file
ii. psp notices that the EBOOT is empty and therefore does not require verification
iii. user attempts to launch software
iv. swap is made
v. psp assumes the EBOOT is still empty and attempts to executes code anyways

So, uh, afaik I don't think there will be a simple 'pop in/pop out' method anytime soon because you really do need to a) have an empty EBOOT in the first place and b) replace it within the same directory structure with some real code *while* the PSP is trying to launch. You can't just inject some code into the first one to ask the PSP to load the second file or anything since it has to be empty in the first place for it to launch at all.

However I think this will lead to some development on the 'downgrade to 1.0' front.

I'm still kinda lost on this single card shit, can someone be just a lil bit more elaborate. I do have a 1GB card in the mail, but I still want to join in the fun :D

Ok,hmm. Do you have them sitting in the same directory as the emulator as well?

I'm using the emulator called Megadrive .021 btw. You can always try it out if all else fails.

PSP 1.5 HACK -- HOW TO MAKE IT WORK

Submitted by a reader who's well into the hacking scene.

THE SLIDE CARD TECHNIQUE
Insert slide card into one of the small holes on top of PSP, take novelty Christmas flashing key ring, press button to initiate excruciatingly poor rendition of Jingle Bells, hold against IR Sensor for 3.6785 seconds EXACTLY, eject game. Put game back in again. Eject game. Put game back in again. Move the slide card about a bit. Wonder why nothing's happening. Play special HAXXORED .mp3 for a bit, but it doesn't do much. Sigh, give up, turn PSP off. Turn it back on. It doesn't work. Panic, run about the room turning the PSP on and off wailing 'OH SHIT I'VE JUST SPENT £250 IMPORTING SOMETHING AND I'VE ALREADY BLEEDING BROKEN BECAUSE I WANTED TO PLAY SONIC 2 ON THE BUS, SHIT SHIT SHIT'. Swap memory card over to the other one you were press ganged into buying in Dixons by Dave, who INSISTED this would work. PSP turns on normally, let out massive sigh of relief. Cautiously start the Mega Drive emulator. It's working! It's loading! Crow with joy! Choose Sonic The Hedgehog 2.bin, tears welling up in your eyes as the hallowed name flashes across the screen, SEEEEEEEEEEGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. But wait. It's not flashing. It's crawling. Realize it's half FUCKING speed and games ten years ago were RUBBISH anyway. Fling PSP into a corner in a tantrum and cry.

We are yet to confirm this works.

:lol

Did it get released on PSX as well? I have a game that sounds very similar to that description but forgot the title. :)

Oh! ok, nvm. I just found out that the 1.50 hack works with 1.51. Just do the following:

1.Do the same stuff as the 1.50 hack.
2. Creat a new folder inside Game, call it MS3.
3. Extract DATA.PASR, save it as EBOOT.PBP.
4. Put it in the MS3 Folder.
5. For 1.51 users you need 3 MS, not 2 MS.
6. So MS1, then MS 2, last MS3. Don't get yourself confused. Cuz I did the first time.

just for you mejilan (psphacker)

how the heck do you save in zelda 2 without intentionally killing yourself? i remember you had to hold reset+ power to save on the actual game, but it seems like the emuatlor doesnt want to do a battery save

at this rate, i don't want to see what an exploit for 2.0 will take...

savestate?

PSP emu is dead to me. Pac-Land on PC Engine doesn't work. Sob.

But more importantly, did anyone ever make a Dracula X ROM that would work on the PSP em? I found a couple of solutions that work from a PC CD drive, but no ROM image per se.

I'm not sure which version of Nester youre using but to save try hitting the L button then you'll see a menu with a save/load state in there somewhere.

Btw-you guys need to play OutRun 2019, Godamn is it ever slick. Its like the fun is magnified since there are new dimentions added to this version. For example-if you drive off an overpass you'll land on the freeway below you, plus there are ramps to get some serious air in this game. Its still Outrun, but with new things added to it,the branching paths are still there,it has a new futureistic coat of visuals to it though. It reminds me of Night Rider and OutRun combined. Btw2-they need to add save/load states to the Genny emulators, this really is annoying that that the Genesis emus don't have this for PSP.

i dont want to do save states since i suck at zelda 2 and i want to start with a fresh set of lives without adding a number to my death count :(

Pac Land works. I've played it. What I've noticed that was weird is that some US roms don't work yet the Japanese version of the same game does. Pac Land for example....

doesnt it let you do an sram save?

that's what im asking. i can only get it to save by intentionally dying then choose save, but then that would count as a continue. yeah i'm picky about stuff like that

Wario - you need controller 2 to save in Zelda II. Pause the game, then go to controller 2 and press UP and A to bring up the save screen. However, it still adds one to your death count, which kinda sucks.

im playing

chrono trigger
DK country (the snes9x version rips the gba port)
TMNT
oracle of seasons

emu rocks :D
