Official PSP 1.50 exploit thread (proper loader has arrived)

I always put it in sleep mode on the emulator menu or the rom menu (never the actual game pause screen.) Can't remember what I was in last, but I had also had success like 20 times showing it off and putting it into sleep mode and such.

Just woke up today and turned it on hoping to see the emu menu, but was treated with a full system restart and my card data saying 0 megs avalible.

Oh well, live and learn. I didn't even care about those saves on my card even. I just played Lumines again and unlocked 3 more skins then I had before so it was almost a blessing in disguise :lol

so, people are now dissecting the 1.5 firmware and found a way to replace the background image in the psp menu

there's no program to do this yet. i think they're actually playing around with the firmware to get it to display images

They also did something to get rid of the game icon in this one...

Good, if they're tampering with the firmware, does this mean we're a step closer to truly breaking the PSP?

I wish these fools would get to work on 1.51 and 1.52... :(

the game icon is not in the picture because he's inside the movie folder. he's just proving that the background image is not a jpg from the photo directory

Are PSPs preloaded with 1.51 in stores? If so, is there any way to tell which ones are 1.5 by looking at the boxes? (besides Spider-man 2 pack-in, which is long gone around here)

Those hoping to see Gens ported to psp might as well forget that...it has a 10% chance of happening. The code would be just a massive job to port...same deal with zsnes.

I'm still worried. A lot of places that were sold out just got new stock in. It seems like 1.51 has been around long enough for units that hit stores this week to have it. I don't want to make a $250 mistake.

both Gens and Zsnes are open source IIRC...I doubt both will be ported, but It would kick ass if they were...or at least if SNES and Genny were at least up to NesterJ or PCE levels of emulation

After running some emu stuff I occasionally get an odd sound on boot up (even when loading a UMD game). It's the usual bootup jingle boot but with a low 'white noise' type sound kicking in very briefly half way thru. Anyone else had this? Like I say, only occasionally, but it is there, and it wasn't before.

Can somebody explain how to get the Bin file genesis roms running on the emulator. I read earlier in the thread that you could fix it by renaming it and adding the SMD ending to the name. But that didn't work, does it need to be converted? And if so how? Thanks

I've had that once. I had completely powered off after Beats of Rage froze up on me, and when I turned the power back on got the noise you describe as it booted up into a UMD game. Nothing since, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

AZYUMA86: I've got some .bin Genesis ROMs that're inside .zip files that work fine. Maybe try zipping them?

hopefully soon we'l get a new snes one, the speed (with tweaked settings) is pretty good, i think the best settings for games is soundskip 1.4 frameskip 2 transperancies off vsync off sound 11khz

dk country and chrono trigger run at about 45fps each with that

indeed... if only the dual scene folks would say how...

It's just a matter of figuring out how to pack up a PBP file. There's obviously an unpacker out there, though I haven't looked around for a way to create a PBP.

Once you have that down, I'm sure it's the same as dicking around with the icons, video, and audio in gamesaves. I never could figure out the audio, though.

edit: PBP Unpacker packs, too. :)

packing and unpacking is easy... the problem is making the .pmf and .at3

Yeah, they should just say how they're doing it. The more who get involded in it the better! I've got no idea on how to create the .pmf and .at3 files.

Eh? With which emulator? Using uo_Snes9x ver0.02y11J3 I'm getting about 25FPS with those settings. Full settings I'm using are:

FrameSkip: 02
Auto FrameSkip: OFF
Screen Size: Normal
Show FPS: ON
VSync: OFF
Sound: ON
Sound Rate: 11kHz
Transparency: OFF
Graphic Speed: x1.0 (what does this do anyway?)
Sound Speed: x1.4 (likewise...)
PSP Clock: 333MHz

wait, try turning the frameskip to 0. and leave show fps. thats the same emu im using, i usually get about 42fps. except in battles when it slows down. and have the screen size on 2xwide

another quick question: once you're in the SMS/GG proggy, anyone else get a garbage looking list if they scroll up or down the game selector? with me, the list scrolls up or down in an effect that I can only describe as the same thing that happens when you look at an untextured wall in Doom (or use noclip to walk outside)

er...lemme see if this helps for those who don't know what the hell I am talking about now....moving up or down the list doesn't get rid of the old options..and after a quater of a second, it's impossible to read anything

also: after every 4 or so games, any future attempts to load a new game simply resets the current one

also: Master System > NES in all areas BUT games :( (Time Soldiers and Fantasy Zone II being the exceptions) ¬_¬

Damn man.. The PSP/emus killed it?

well i tried the genny emu was playing sonic for a while...that was all good. then went to play chrono trigger again for a while, worked fine. then saved, restarted psp and bam, dead memstick, wont read on anything. shit cost me 220 AU aswell :( oh well psp is a paperweight to me again i guess.

I'm guessing it's that new Gen Emu...the damn thing resetted my system and that's NEVER happened to me before...I'm not sure what it was doing as it was running the Genny great but I wasn't going to take any chances with it...how long did you play the new genny emu for? I only gave it 50 seconds or so :\

yeah it wasnt long. i read about this happening to others and it was before this emu came out aswell. luck of the draw i guess

both nes and snes emus have turned off my psp.. it happens when the rom isnt working properly... happened with both star trek snes roms lol... one of the star trek roms managed to load to the screen and then psp died...

all my roms are unzipped now so I have no idea if anything is getting corrupted.

btw cant you exchange that sandisk for a new one? I would think it has atleast one year warranty? If you bought it overseas I think you could probably get a new one as long as you bitch at them(Sandisk I pressume?) thru email.. Usually works just fine for me be it a dvd disc that is damaged, protection screen damaged etc.

Can't see why not. Worst case scenario is that you have to send it to sandisk for a replacement.

/edit sandisk has 5 year warranty. They shiould replace your stick no questions asked.

i dont even have a proof of purchase :( i threw out the box seeing as id never had a problem with memory sticks yes i know you should keep them all the time but i never thought..

im going to try, its worth it, i wouldnt want it to happen to anyone on here. if i paid a good price for it itd be cool i guess i mean shit happens, but fuck they were up to 300 dollars here at one point its too much money to just be blown

Email them and see what they say. I think you should get a replacement even if you dont have the box or proof of purchase. Also mention that your sony stick works just fine.
