Anyone?
Possible Avenue for Homebrew on v1.51?

This was posted up by one of our users earlier, as I don’t have a v1.51 PSP, I thought I would put it up for you to evaluate. The directions are not all that clear, but here is exactly what the user posted:

“

Oh! ok, nvm. I just found out that the 1.50 hack works with 1.51. Just do the following:

1.Do the same stuff as the 1.50 hack.
2. Creat a new folder inside Game, call it MS3.
3. Extract DATA.PASR, save it as EBOOT.PBP.
4. Put it in the MS3 Folder.
5. For 1.51 users you need 3 MS, not 2 MS.
6. So MS1, then MS 2, last MS3. Don't get yourself confused. Cuz I did the first time.

Thanks to all my friends thought of this,

I'm at work, and only have access to 2 MS at the moment anyway.

I call bullshit. Haven't tried it, but I can't imagine this'll work.

apparantly the new PCE emulator supports CD games?

5/06/22 v0.7 CD-ROM

I think games not 'playable' because of bad framerate is bullshit. I played DKC2 with sound and transparency pretty far.
Have I said not playable ? I said not enough for me...Play games the way you like...I'll play them the way I like.

Probably bullshit, yes, but if it works there may be a way to do this on one memory stick too. One guy on PSPHacker forum tried but he didnt do it right. But at least he got some different eror messages, there might be some hope down this road.

If anyone could try the 3 mem stick version it would be nice, so we know if this is just a haox.

I think I know how the exploit works. I believe that in the Sony libraries they are calling a sprintf command to copy the name of the directory of MS1, so for example myprog%, but in sprintf % is an escape character so if you get '%' and nothing after it, it will just ignore it. So then if fails loading the .pbp and try again but this time the character array just holds the "myprog" string not "myprog%", so it loads the elf file in MS2 :) Very tricky indeed.

Now, is there a good commandline tool for PBP-fiddling around so you can do this a bit more tidily (and preserve the original icons etc)?

Oopo's PBP unpacker is a good start. As-is, it'll spit out the parts of a PBP from the command line; you'd rename what it calls "UNKNOWN.PSP" to EBOOT.PBP for the fomerly "MS2" part of the exploit.

The PBP format is dirt simple, so I imagine someone will have a CLI app tailored to this exploit pretty soon.
Edit: Here's a quick hack of the above PBP unpacker so that it only writes out a DATA.PSP (if found). Same thing otherwise, just less mess to clean up.

If that's true, then :lol

Good thing Sony's not in the business of making commercial OS'es. If they don't even trap for escape characters in a string, who knows what other exploits exist?

Yeah! One of the fundamental rules of system level programming. Oh well its good for us!

How do I get the MAME Roms to work, I put the zipped file in my K:/PSP/GAME/MAME% or is it K:/PSP/GAME/MAME%/ROMS ??

The ROMS go in the directory without the percent sign.

What's a good size for a memory stick to hold this? I plan on a 1 GB memory stick in a month or so, but I feel the itch to get a new stick tonight for this.

I picked up a 256MB stick at Circuit City last week for $29.99, and it's worked just fine. Unsure if the sale is still going on though.

'

you probably wont need more than 128 MB, unless you have a shitload of roms

but bigger is always better if you ahve the cash

All psp's in stores are still 1.5
I wasn't expecting it, but I even got Spider-Man 2. Which I guess works out, since I haven't seen it yet and it would be a waste for the UMD cases that came with the screen protector to go to waste...

What are some must-play GB/GBC games?

This is really skirting the edge here...

I will recommend ONE absolutely must-have GB title however. Remember, you must buy the actual cartridge however.

Donkey Kong (aka Donkey Kong '94)

Pretty much the best GB title ever. Also, RIN will play it in Super Gameboy mode FOR TEH WIN! :rock

THIS DAY FEELS BETTER THAN THE DAY I FIRST GOT A PSP.

Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Mike Tyson's Punchout, and Tecmo Bowl at the press of a button. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anybody tested Tecmo World Wrestling on NesterJ? The game seemed to freeze randomly on regular PC emulators so I'm wondering if it has the same problem on PSP.

I agree, I bought that off teh strength of how it looked on the Super Game Boy... Wasn't that basically a SGB launch title -- the flagship title to show off what SGB could do? That was such a fun game, and challenging in many areas...very well thought out. Was that done by Miyamoto? Anyway, another thumbs up for DK94. Screw all that DKC BS.

Here's an easy way to get the corrupted files out of the way. It's sorted by the date modified attribute, with the most recent at the top. You can use this program (shareware, unfortunately), to quickly change all your '%' folders with a more recent modified date than the non-% folders. This way all your launchable programs are at the top.

or you can move everything from your game directory to your pc. then copy the actual homebrew programs first, then copy over the % directories to your memory stick

HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP

I just tried out that ready made emulator pack and I am quite impressed! I can get the SNES games I tried working running at very playable speeds WITH sound on using the right settings!

Has Genesis emulation come this far yet? And which is the PCE emu that supports CD games now?

I've got two PSP games coming tomorrow (Panic Bomber and Coded Arms), and if they have a 1.51 update on them FUCK 'EM. I'll keep them for later and mess with the emulators instead. :D

Or you could just use the Unix/Linux "touch" command to change a timestamp.

for those who want a better manga viewer use the jpegviewer its awesome, no more laggy refresh or nonrefreshing at all, also you can scroll with 'O' button too. two methods of scrolling too with analog and digital and the folders are actually sorted logically not the crap the psp photo viewer does.
the only minor annoying thing is the lack of a quick back button to return to the root folder faster.

i think all you have to do is take the contents from the MS1 directory and put that in a directory called pspersonalize% or whatever
the contents in MS2 should be in a directory called psperonalize

i might be wrong but maybe someone can confirm

Just want to make sure
both MS1 and MS2 comes with a eboot.pbp. So I keep the MS1 in personalize%, and the one in MS2 in personalize. Where do the bitmaps go? The % folder?

the bmps go in the ROOT of the memory stick. it doesn't go in any directories

The PSPGenesis emulator is pretty fast. I've been playing Alien Soldier and Gunstar Heroes with good speed at 333MHz. It doesn't have any save ability, though, lacks options compared to the SNES9X port, and seems a little unstable (occasional PSP lockups, but no harm done to my mem stick so far). Just needs a little time, I imagine.

Defensor said:
It did it way before the SNES emulators :)
Only thing we need so far with Genesis emulators are different screen options.

What's the best Genesis emu, and does Streets of rage 2 work with sound? :D

I'm messing around with the new PCE emu right now; it definitely has support for CD-ROM games, but no telling how to get them working. I'm taking Dracula X off my Xbox and seeing it will work for now.

The bmps go in the main root folder. So when you connect to your PSP, put em right there.

BTW, Jiggle, I just used your new bmps and they work great! Thanks.
