Official PSP 1.50 exploit thread (proper loader has arrived)

Hey I just noticed this thread is a sticky now. Wh00t.

And I find PSPGenesis, although nice, is quite buggy especially when it comes to power down and sleep mode.

How do you know it was meant to be running at 333? 333 will generate more heat and maybe some of the components are not made for that.
Because the CPU spec is 1-333MHz and we are already told by some devs that regular games will use that clock setting in the future. I've been running those emulators for hours on 333MHz setting and I can't see anything getting warmer than before.

I've been wondering about the second file, the Data.psp executable that gets renamed to EBOOT.PBP, that if you look at it just appears as Corrupted data. Has anyone tried repacking this with just the icon PNG to see if it still works as part of the two step boot process, while showing an icon instead of corrupted data from the XMB interface?
Good idea. I think it would work. Here's another idea that works. Every time you put a new app, you first make a copy of everything to your PC, then delete everything from PSP, then move all the regular named folders over from PC to PSP, and only then move all the % named folders over. That way, the files in % named folders will all appear at the top of the list on PSP, and corrupted data icons will all be pushed to bottom of the list.

I'm using the MAME emulator, the interface and the EMU runs perfect, but I can't get to run any of the set games. Does anybody knows if the roms have to be in an specific folder or if there are roms specially made for PSP ?
By the way, I'm using the emulator that's in Japanese.

I prefer the GENerator (0.12). great auto frameskip and runs very stable

Sorry I am confused rigth now which Emulator I use, but there are different ones and I found one to be very good (no sleep mode problems at all)

because if it is indeed a 333Mhz processor, it has to be QC'ed for at least 333Mhz.. this is typical on all processors and memory. if there are problems in yields during fab, just send out the part at a lower designated clock speed. but for the chip to go out at 333Mhz, yes, it HAS to run at 333Mhz.

New version of SNES emu is out. 4:3 video mode is finally there:

– Adds 4:3 Screen Size
– Modifies the specification of frame skipping
– No restriction of the 6-FPS
– Battery life shown under the right of the menu.
– Others

Create ROMS folder inside the MAME folder on the memory stick, and put roms in it (just like on other versions of MAME)

I dont think the cpu will be damaged, but maybe other components. I once had a notebook that fried the disk drive when I set the cpu to max speed. I dont say it will damage anything, but you can never be sure

yeah, thanks, 4:3 screen mode is great...if they would just smooth it like the PCE emu does

So is it confirmed that every new game requires the firmware update? I was thinking about getting Midnight Club....but I would rather have emulation than that game.

rumors are saying coded arms is the first game to have the firmware update. so i guess that would mean dead to rights and MC3 are not affected...but who knows

crap. psphacker is getting raped. cant get new snesemu :(
Also I have one version earlier than the one released today and I can not access the menu for some reason. the analog stick is used as a secondary dpad in the snesemu. weird.

The good news: swaplwess method requires no patch.
The bad news: that means firmware 1.51 and up is going to require a new method
The good news: It's probably being worked on now

I sure hope it gets here before Namco Museum Battle Collection. I would hate to have to choose between two sets of classics I want to play!

Well, this is more like what I was hoping for last week. Guess I'll go buy my PSP shortly; here's hoping for not much trouble in the dead pixels arena.

Other than psphacker.com, what sites do you guys recommend for downloading homebrew things? Whenever I've tried downloading from PSP Hacker yesterday or today I get a No files downloads pendingContent-type: text/html File did not download message, so that seems a no-go. http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk seems decent and I grabbed some files, but it seems to be a bit slower at getting things, at least now when I went searching for the v0.02y12 SNES emulator. Maybe it'll be up by the time I'm back with PSP.

looks like psphacker has been getting hammered recently. it'll probably cool down a bit after the xploit release

Anyways the SNES emu continues running like shit (not that I don't thank the devs, great job guys)...Tried Plok ! and even without sound and transparency effects I don't get a decent framerate.
Guess I ask for too much :)

It's no joke. If MAME were better, I probably would not care so much. But MAME at this point has a pretty short list of games, and none of the ones I really want.
MAME will improve and most classic games were remade at least for one of the consoles PSP can emulate

True. But the waiting!

Actually, I am getting some classic love via NESTERJ. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong & Jr, Snow Bros. Decent, if not excellent versions.

Unfortunately, Ms Pac-Man, Galaga and Qix do not work properly. And I have the carts but lack the ROM images for the excellent SNES versions of Ms Pac-Man and Mr Do.

Is it confirmed that game will have 1.52 update in the US version?

THat's weird. Very weird. Some of the most graphically demanding games, like DKC, are getting 30-60FPS with sound and transparency disabled - no matter what screen scaling you chose, and get an extra boost if you don't scale the screen..

What PCE emu are you talking about? The one I'm using (PCEP) does a much worse job scaling the picture compared to SNES emu.

Nah...it isn't weird. I am getting 37 fps...but that's not enough for me. Sound off/Transparency are the main "brakes" for SNES emulation...Running without them with AUTO-FRAMESKIP makes them playable...but the frameskip is pretty noticeable.

BTW, does any SF Genesis version work ?

not neccessarily. Eventually people are going to figure out how to pirate games with this exploit, and that's going to leave quite a lot of users saying "I can't buy the game because then I'll lose the ability to play homebrew games and emulators, so ...."

Anyways, you get the idea. It will certainly push a lot of people who don't really support piracy into pirating the games simply to play them.

I think games not 'playable' because of bad framerate is bullshit. I played DKC2 with sound and transparency pretty far.

I know they are doing it in Japan, but I don't see the point, frankly. Games have to be cracked anyways for them to work from the memory stick. Games' EXE needs to be cracked/edited, and noone has done that so far. Introducing those firmware updates will just make hacker's job a tad more difficult as now he also has to remove the firmware check from games EXE instead of just making it load from memory stick, but I'd imagine that once they figure out how to make the game load from MS, removing that firmware check would be trivial. I also hope that SCEA would count on US customers being scared of such thing as firmware updates so that they won't force that onto us.

How do I change the background pictures with one memory stick? it never seems to change (I have 1-4.bmps on the main directory of the psp and each MS folder on the game folder, with the first with % on the end. Anything wrong?)

So you won't be buying any new games at all then? :lol
If have to decide to lose all homebrew and pay $40 for coded arms (which really looks hot), play through that in a few days and then again facing the current games drought or having access to thousands of great games with more to come then the choice is easy. When the REALLY good games come to PSP the choice gets harder, but until then we probably have new hacks, the games are already pirated or Sony gave up on firmware upgrades because it cuts software sales.

Thanks :D
Where can I upload pics in case someone wants to use any of mine?

And another thing - where can I find mario bros. level pics? I tried google but I only find mario comics\3d mario art\parts of a level

Post your backgrounds!

Damn this is awesome... I even ran out and bought a ms last week just so I could do the swap. I'm glad I bought it though cause it's already nearly full, there's no way I could get by on that meager 32mb stick now :lol GREAT week for PSP scene all-round: PSPersonlize and the new 1.5 exploit, amazing releases.

What do you think the next big breakthru for the scene will be? I'm betting on 1.51 exploit and/or iso loader for 1.5.

And if Sony makes me choose between new PSP games and homebrew, I'll stick with homebrew, no two ways about it. DS has better games coming anyway :D

1.51 exploit please :D besides, I'd much prefer that homebrew would stay on the Light Side of the Force, if you know what I mean.

Could someone quickly go over exactly how to add the backgrounds with the single memory stick exploit? I don't want to fuck anything up and everything else makes reference to the swap method, which I didn't even bother reading about. Thanks!

i think all you have to do is take the contents from the MS1 directory and put that in a directory called pspersonalize% or whatever
the contents in MS2 should be in a directory called psperonalize

i might be wrong but maybe someone can confirm

That's what I did. Works for me.
