Official Ridge Racer 6 Thread

Oh really, is that why you posted in-game RR5 shots to be compared to these car renders? :D

i posted in game RR5 pics because i assume RR6 shots are real time [ or to be onthe safe side " the target graphics" ]

if i start to compare, its MS gandam, killzone all over again.

i think these pics can be done on xbox 360. PGR3 look close to that. not as good but close. RR6 doesnt have damage system, it doesnt have huge tracks. so graphics like this are possible for RR6. [ ofcourse these are all assumes based on old RR games ]

i am not defending xbox 360. i am more into playstation 3. but i give the credits where its due. [ and i am sure going to buy xbox 360 and at launch most likly if the diffrence between is xbox 360 and ps3 isnt that big in terms of graphics and i can afford both consoles [ maybe not but i am not sure yet]]

like MS Gundam E3 to real time PS3 and how it was doable, i dont have any reason to believe that 6 cars on a road with no crowd or big effects cant be done on xbox 360 with this kind of graphics. After all. its Namco. and they are good when it comes to graphics. also. it wouldnt make sense to post a CG render for a game that was annouced. if its CG like many people would assume, they would have posted a full CG movie. but its not CG, this how the game look like. its not complete. the background isnt ready to be shown to public.
so they showed you the car model.

why people cant make up their minds?

if they show you wall guy [ car guy in RR6 ] then you will all laugh and say xbox 1.5
if they show you Nothing but annoucment of RR6, you will bitch how come no screens
if they show you car model of how the game will look like, you will say its rendered. fuck that.. >_<

and again.
i was only responding to the posts of people who were disspointed of no leap between RR5 and RR6 :)

that was the WHOLE point of posting RR5 pics

And rightfully so. Even the closest in power from last gen (n64 to DC) felt like a giant leap. I remember being floored by an imported Soul Calibur and by Sonic Adventure. This... it doesn't feel like a big jump at all.
I'm not sure racers are going to be the best way to gauge this effect since they tend to seem further along the curve to plausible reality than other types of games - they manage to fake more of the 'macro' level details better than other games so you have to focus on smaller details to see an improvement. The problem being whether you are aware of enough of those small details to get a good sense of the overall improvement.

These same arguments have been done on this board about 100x over back when PGR3 teaser renders were shown.
And I thought people would learn from then - raytraced renders with ~100xsample AA are "not" realtime - no matter what kind of rationalization one tries to make for it.

That said, this could well be a target render, so car geometry could be the same in realtime eventually.
I don't see those RR5 "renders" to not be feasible this next gen...

As long as its got Ridge Racer gameplay -- none of that Racing Evolution shit -- I'm fucking amped! Has it only been announced for X360?

what the? all i said was that the game has been in development since atleast july, and that i didn't hear anything about it being in development for 360. PS3 exclusive as far as i knew.

crap...here we go again.

The game must be really early. NO hope for launch!

true, but that means that Ridge Racer 6 will be built from the ground up on BETA & FINAL Xbox 360 hardware, and NOT any of the Alpha kits. so that means RR6 should be amazing when it comes out next year.

Damn! I was quite looking forward to Ridged Racer 6. ;)

Okay so it's not PS3 exclusive, we know. But is it even COMING to the PS3 at all? 'cause like, what the hell, did Namco just wake up one day and say "You know what, let's make RR6 for X360!"

Ridge Racer 6 was announced originally over the weekend during the Xbox Summit in Japan, but Namco Hometek today made it official for the North American market as well.

Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. today announced Ridge Racer) 6. Developed for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Ridge Racer 6 takes full advantage of the new platform’s capabilities with in-depth multiplayer functionality, unprecedented vehicle control and immersive sound and visual effects to provide the most adrenaline-rich arcade driving experience yet.

Nope, he's right is doesn't...

I love the "fake" car designs in Ridge Racer. It's one of the things that defines it in a sea of me-too racers. I hope to god they never go the licensed route.

There's a very real drift (pardon pun) towards hyper-realism, which is great, but the logical conclusion to that is that all games would feel and look the same. Arcade racers I hope, will always have a place. I'd actually really like to see a next-gen Rush title.

The screens look nice, I just wish there was some video. Assuming this game lives up to its reputation, this and Gotham will make me a reasonably happy Xbox 360 owner in 2006. ...And why does the front view of the Ridge Racer 6 car contain the word "Erusea"? Is that a hint of something or is it just a Namco fake tease to take space?

I'm kinda hoping that RR6 on X360 can look as good as the driving sequences from RR Type 4's prerendered CG intro.

the RR4 prerendered CG intro driving sequences look much better than these pics would lead you to believe

those are the RR4 still-renders. i don't like those. the CG video is nice looking when you see it in motion. RR6 should be that good, if not better, and definitally better than the still-renders.

Actually the moment in which the RR car enters the Ridge City it's one of the nicest ever :) RR5 tried to emulate that moment doing one of the most "credible" cities ever.

if you're talking about the RR4 CG intro video, then yes, I totally agree with you. i loved that.

that's how i want one of the tracks to be like in RR6 :)

Yeah, I mentioned that in the other thread. How they handle the downloadable content for this title could determine whether or not I buy an X360 at launch. If it looks like developers are going to release games with a minimum of content to get them out the door faster, then hit consumers up for downloads to pad those games out to the levels of content we've come to expect with our titles this gen, I'm voting 'no' with my wallet. If this ships as a full-featured Ridge game and the downloads add content over and above the amount you'd normally expect at retail, or if the game ships with less content than usual but the subsequent downloads are free, then you can count me in.

My apologies to the industry folk who are pinning their hopes for major profits on microtransactions and DLC in the coming generation. Microtransactions suck. If you want my money, either include all the content for your game when you ship, or make sure to create enough post-release content to put together a decent expansion disc and offer that at retail for a reasonable price. If it looks like a large portion of the content for your game will only be available as post-release downloads for a fee, then I'm not buying your game. If it looks like the majority of games for your system will be structured that way, then I'm not buying that system, either. (Yes, I'm looking at you, MS guys.)

Remember this from Jan 2004?

Ridge Racer The Sixth
We know for a fact that Namco is working on the next Ridge Racer, though it's probably not titled Ridge Racer 6. Rather, it's probably entitled something much smarter, much slicker. R: Racing Evolution was a side-step for the company, an off-shoot that neither garnered much interest nor sales. We've learned that Namco is considering using the HDD for various purposes (including enabling players to download the first Ridge Racer to the PS2 with updated graphics), and that the game will return to the arcade-style mechanics it's so well known for, including bringing back the pressure sensitive control from the latter games, such as Ridge Racer 5.

Wow. I remember gazing at that pic around the time of PS2 launch because some GAF member tricked me into thinking it was realtime.

NEVER AGAIN!

I don't remember seeing such a large image of that CG-still. man if only RRV had been that :D

Isamu and I are the only ones who have truly waited over 5 years for this news...

Ridge Racer 6 is already the greatest game of all time...

End of topic!

WHOA...hold the phone here. If this is so, then why hasn't Namco said anything about the PS3 version? Or is that gonna be un grande sorpresa for TGS?

Wait, what? A cancelled PS3 project, or just not yet revealed?

Because, then... wtf? Are you sure, just kidding? Because these announcements are getting confusing to keep tabs on.

On Live.

Will own every other racer.

Ever created.

Well said my friend, well fucking said!

Ridge Racer 6 is being made by Namco of Japan. There is nothing to do with Namco Hometek or anything.

Ridge Racer 6 will come out on Xbox 360 first, obviously...

I was talking about R6 shots. They are offline renders, doesn't matter what people think is feasible or not.
I suspect the car geometry in-game should be at the very least close to that though.

I never heard of it being exclusive to any platform. But I admit I don't listen around as much as YellowAce does. :P
