This is the truth. What the fuck were they thinking. This isn't rugby league, it's union for fucks sake.

Allowing an English ref to officiate the game was always going to result in bias against the stronger team since they would have to face in england in the next round. I called it even before kickoff. But don't delude yourselves, regardless of that NZL were lacklustre and France put in a good performance.

Well if New Zealand cannot win it in 4 years time with a home ground advantage, we know they are definite chokers since they last time they won it was in New Zealand as well.

Ozzies lose to England...LOL -I guess it's back to the 'roo farm (now a desert)!

I'm off to watch SA v Fiji -1st game I'll have watched in a looong time.

Edit: NZ out too -back to losing at cricket for you lot!

Edit2: LOLX2

...

Amazing match between Fiji and South Africa. The Fijians almost caused the third upset this weekend (and possibly the biggest one:lol ) but I'm glad my home team won in the end.

I supported the Fiji and think the final score was a bit harsh, since most of the match was really close, and only at the end could South Africa really take the lead (after Fiji missed two very good opportunities to score a try).
But South Africa deserved its victory in a great match. :)

Now I hope that Scotland-Argentina will be as great as the 3 other quarter finals...

Is it starting in a few minutes or in an hour? Different sites tell me different things.

Vamos vamos pumas vamos a ganar!

Care to tell where you say it as that, the game is was watching was well referreed.
Deserved binning for the block and France were very disiplined at the breakdown.

Umm, McAlister did not change the angle of his run when the kick was made. You could argue that he was committed and couldn't pull out. Regardless of that the application of a yellow card goes further into being a farce because if that was a professional foul deserving of 10mins then what of the penalty that the French gave away 2 metres from their line earlier in the game to deny a try? Or what of the two instances where the French did the same thing McAlister did, block the chase on the kick?
It was a farce, along with not policing hands in the ruck (two instances in the last 20mins where the French used their hands in 5 metres out from their line and were ignored. Should have been penalties or cards if the ref was consistent) or policing of the offside line.
If by chance you could not see the shortcomings of the ref then I suggest you read the Laws of the game. They're available on the IRB's website.

When a team has 30% procession and 35% territory and only gives away 2 penalites in the entire game then you know something stinks.

I got over '99, I got over '03. We lost those fair. But this one leaves me feeling hollow given the influence of Barnes. It's preposterous that the TMO hasn't been used for more instances of the game. Why there is not a ruling like in league when they can go back a phase of two for things like forward passes or for matters concerning yellow cards (i.e. if something is a cardable offense) is disgraceful.
Paddy O'Brien needs to learn to take criticism and stop denying the fact that most of the refs going around nowadays lack any accountability and that as the person in charge of the Refs that he has to be far more forthcoming.

just jumping in to say the standard of League ref`ing is utterly shambolic. Super League level is okay - drop into National and you get crazy ref`ing decissions.

I only see NRL and there have been some pathetic displays there. Always will be when there is judgement calls.

Union reffering has been equally bad in the past year. However my point is that they have better options available to them to stop stupefying sequences from occuring in certain instances. It's pointless to have a TMO only for things that occur in the in-goal as it doesn't solve half the problems they're there for.

You're a Kiwi league fan? I know this is off-topic but is it true the Warriors are consistently getting bigger crowds than NPC matches?

cool. who'd have thought that just a few weeks ago? I am enjoying watching Rugby.

Oh, and England are quite a surprise as well.

I wonder how cheaply I could get to Paris next weekend, it's easily close enough to go one day and come back the next, I wouldn't even need a place to stay.

Crap I either zoned out, was playing on my PS3 or something because I swear I watched the first half, switch the TV back to the rugby and it's waaaay over, what was the score?

You'd hope they would be. I think NPC crowds have been on average about 7-8k for this year (quite bad, but given it's being played at the same time as the WC) but that spreads across 14 teams throughout the country.
The Warriors had on average about 12k. But that was with bumper crowds at the end that distort the picture (mid-season they were getting 4-6k at games) and are the only league game in town in the entire country.

By comparison Super 14 crowds were on average something around 20k and the All Blacks weren't playing the the first 7 rounds.

Should be interesting to see how many they get to the Kiwis v Kangaroos today. I'll be surprised if it is more than 15k though. It's in Wellington and I didn't even know that until yesterday (although I have been avoiding the sports news the past week...)
And on a side note it appears Brad Thorn is going to be playing in the S14 next year for the Crusaders.

Hier kom die Bokke!

Well they have struggled against Tonga and Fiji...
I wouldn't be surprised if they lose to Argentina though, but I think it has come to the point where they can only lose the Cup and not win it.

A lot of people just couldn't care less about the NPC, including me. The whole country can really get behind the Warriors, being the only NZ team - if they gave us two teams, like Auckland and Wellington, then I probably wouldn't care as much.

Of course it's a bit of a joke, since the team's mostly Aussies anyway.

Only 3 of the 17 to play today are Aussie born. Must be a record of some sort, though.

Anyway, this isn't really a league thread (a sport I don't care much for anyway...)

Whoops, I'm an idiot. Don't know how I came to think along the lines of the Kiwis, who might just be doing better with more Aussies at the moment.

Police found the body of a dead man floating in the Tasmanian sea. The victim was wearing an All Blacks rugby shirt, stockings and suspenders, a blonde wig, red lipstick and mascara. Police removed the shirt to save his family from embarassment.

Who did New Zealand struggle against before their loss? No-one. On the other hand South Africa went through battles before coming out on top in each of their most recent games. I think the strong mindset they are in shouldn't be discounted, same with England (bouncing back from 36-0 to SA and battling through Australia and France).

Personally, I would be surprised if they lost to Argentina. England is another matter, though. That final would prove to be a great spectacle between two in-form and tough - mentally and physically - teams.

Uhh, I did say the Cup is theirs to lose. Meaning they should win it (by default almost given England shouldn't be any sort of competition to them).

Hilarious. Did you take that out of Alistar Campbell's disgustingly xenophobic diatribe in the Sunday Times?

Ah, I understand now. Still, I think England shouldn't be underestimated. They got this far.

I think England will win again. They weren't expected to beat Australia, they did. Neither France, they did. Now South Africa (probably) are going to stop them? SA are nothing compared to Aussies and hosts.
