mircx had a double site. One for non-licensed material and one for non-licensed AND licensed material. I think ADV was the first to find their page with the licensed BTs.

Admittedly, it wasn't hard to find their site with the licensed material... I don't really care about that stuff, but I do miss having one site that covers anything and everything anime related right down to the music. Ah well, it'll just take me 30 seconds to get everything I want instead of 1 second. It's not a big deal. :) Just hope they come back as it did make things easier.

I've been watching the raws and so far its a damn good show.
So episode 5 is already out?
Well I can't seem to connect to l33t raws right now so I guess I'll have to grab it later.

I am going to stop downloading these if there is a good chance they will make it over to America.

Anybody have any info??

Samurai Champloo is already licensed by Geneon. Before it even aired in japan. :P

:p I have no idea what that means :p

If it is licensed does that mean it will "likely" see its way stateside? Is licensing implicit of distribution rights outside of japan? Or would I be looking at a foreign language import?

Licensed: North American anime company puts down cash for rights to an R1 DVD release.

When you hear something is licensed, 99% chance its coming out in North America, and for the high profile releases, that can also mean a release soon.

Radical

Thanks Crazymoogle. (and chrono, you didn't know I was a newb to this)

The only other anime I have been remotely interested in buying has been Cowboy Bebop (which is obviously already here) so I don't know a lot about it.

I may by pirate battle because of this kindness ;) (just kidding Ill buy it because pirates are rad).

The soundtracks are out. ;p
Yeah. I picked this one up in Shibuya on Tuesday.

I picked it mostly because it was the one that had both the OP and ED. :)

Where the hell are the subs?!

French subs are out for ep 4. And I believe X group is working on getting theirs out. I can just watch the raws and be amazed though, this show has so much going for it.

edit: ok shouta. -__-

You might want to zip your lips on who's "subbing" a show like I said earlier. =b

Btw, you can mention that it's out or whatever you want but no links or mention of who's doing it. If you're going to bother pirate, at least do your own darned work in searching for it.

4 was good, though I can't wait 'til the series really pick up.

I also like the ending theme, I may even get that soundtrack ;)

I'm downloading 4 right now.

I noticed that the SC OST is available on suprnova. Is it worth downloading?

I listened to a few of the tracks on Departure.. I think they're pretty good, but they're too long and repetitive.

I like a lot of tracks on Departure. Especially some of the earlier ones on the album like Aruarian Dance, which is friggin' awesome. Some of them are good, but go on for a little too long.

Yeah I'm loving the OST :)

Can't wait 'til this anime gets some western exposure, I'm americans would love it.

by the way has anyone seen 5?

for those who watched episode 4

why was mugen show no compassion?
Mugen doesn't show compassion because it's what Ishimatsu wanted...he was a thug and violated his family so he took responsibility for his actions.

I'm puzzled as to where this anime is going...there seems to be no solid storyline yet.

And, no, I haven't seen 5 yet. It's only in RAW form.

I'll have to download the OST tomorrow; it appears to be quite long.

Did anyone notice the animation wasn't as good as in the first three eps? A lot of the art looked sloppy compared to those.

i'm loving both OSTs, especially Departure. A lot of tracks remind me of what i'd hear on the Jazzmusique program on netmusique.com's netradio station -- jazzy lo-fi samples dropped over a beat. It's good stuff, just a bit repetitive. Most of the jazzier stuff is on the Departure CD, while a few of the more hip hop-flavored tracks are on Masta.

After seeing the fourth episode, the anime itself feels the same to me. Still loads of potential, still wondering where it's going. i still love the series judging by what we've seen so far, i'd just like to see things come together a bit more in the next episode.

Well, it's not like Bebop had much of a solid main story except for about, what, 5 episodes worth of the series. And the first episode of the main plot in Bebop didn't appear until episode 5.

No, I didn't notice.

Another kick ass episode. I want episode 5 now!

did anyone else watch the version of 4 by some guy (whose name I can't remember anyway) where he took the french sub and babelfished it and figured out what he though it should say? I thought it was pretty funny having storytime at the end in subtitles.

drawing wise it looked the same to be, but I did see some questionable animation at times.

The only thing about the visuals that really bothers me is the difference in character detail, mainly in faces. Most of the characters (ie. people in the city) have a simpler, Miyazaki-esque style to them, whereas the main characters have much greater, often more rugged details. A lot of the bad guys have African American features (ie Nishimatsu) which i guess ties into the the whole hip hop style that's infused with the show.

In ep. 4 even the main character's faces look less detailed unless they're close-up shots. Sometimes the proportions are weird, too. The difference between episode 4 and the others is obvious, to a nit-picker such as myself. As for the actual episode itself, it was good. Didn't blow me away, but it was a decent watch.

True, true.

Must have episode 5. XD

As I much as I love Cowboy Bebop, I still don't want champloo to turn out just like it in terms of plot development. Maybe its' because I saw Bebop at a much faster rate then Champloo's 1 episode a week. I don't know but I'm looking forward to an interesting overall plot that makes up at least 75% of what's ahead. :)

Anime Expo:

Geneon will release Samurai Champloo DVD 1 in Januray 2005. Link

I was hoping it would come out in November but Januray isn't bad. :)

Episode 4 really wasn't as exciting as I hoped. This show has really gone down hill since Episode 1, both in animation quality and storytelling. I still like it though...

One more tidbit from Anime Expo:

Geneon says Samurai Champloo will come out on 7 DVDs which means that the series is in the 26 episode range. Link

Episode 5 was ok...its still not going anywhere though, maybe thats what the last 20 episodes are for.... :-/

Usually in 26 episode series the main plot develops not before episode 10-12.
So we just have to be patient to see the samurai who smells like sunflowers....
