Official Square-Enix preshow hype thread

John Harker said:
It wasn't suppose to be a 50/50 merger I thought.

After Square lost some $100-odd mil after Spirits Within, their value decline enough to have Enix have the majority hold in the merger.

It was a life-saving merger for Square, I thought shares were like 1.5 Eniz to 1 Square.

So Enix was the controlling entity.

bebpo's just bitter.

Tetsuya Nomura posted a little bit of news regarding the SE Party over at the ShinRa site. This is what he revealed:

-There will be a FFVII Compilation and Kingdom Hearts II booth that will feature a, roughly, 8 minute trailer comprised of footage for KHII, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Dirge Of Cerberus and finally for the 7 minutes left will be for Advent Children since this is the last major show for film before hitting the Venice Film Festival and stores worldwide. He mentions that this trailer will not be on the AC DVD.
-3 titles will be playable at the show including Kingdom Hearts II, Dirge of Cerberus and a third title that will be a "world premiere".

Aside from that he mentions preorders for the Limited Pieces edition of AC have exceeded the number of units they planned to produce and that they're still talking about the possibility of AC having a limited theatrical release.

Well, Nomura can only comment on the games he's involved in.

Yep plus he does mention a mystery title getting a "world premiere" playable demo at the show. I wouldn't expect it to be FFXII since that's been playable at various trade shows in the past. Anybody else have a possible idea what it could be?

Hm, he said world premiere... does that mean the first time it's playable, or first time shown period?

good question. Teaser trailer for FFXIII? FFVII Remake 'officially' unveiled? Parasite Eve 3? :)

Goddamn I hate getting my hopes up when I know better... :(

He said playable, so you can pretty much rule out FFXIII and FFVII unless they're coming to xbox 360 and have been secretly in development for some time.

My guess is that World of Mana will be a handheld game and is the game he is talking about.

If FF12 isn't shown I really, really think we have some major worrying to do about it being cancelled. Seriously Square it's been about 4 years since the last Final Fantasy game(FF11 and X-2 don't count). This is getting to be to much.

you think Nomura is working on World of Mana? That would be... different.

Personally, I'd love to see Yusuke Naora (location designs for FFVII, VIII, and X; character designer for Unlimited SaGa, Front Mission 4) get a shot at character designs for FFXIII. His Front Mission 4 character designs, although grounded in a more 'realistic' setting, were fantastic. His original character designs for the Kitase/Nojima game that eventually became FFX were also pretty damn good.

It'll be there, in what capacity nobody knows. I think it was reported and posted by someone here (duckroll maybe?) that there's supposed to be an "important announcement" regarding FFXII at the show.

well, considering Famitsu just had new scans for FFXII (same looking shit, new character announced/named/shown), I doubt it's anything groundbreakingly huge- like a shift in overall style or change in platforms- i.e. from PS2 to X360.

I imagine the biggest news on FFXII will be a solid release date- hopefully for all regions.

Great! KH2 Playable, I can't wait to hear about it!

Man, I just hope some big news comes to fruition here. I'm setting my expectations at a perilously low point, but I really want something good.

No, actually I wasn't thinking about that.

I believe you are referring to this, which was translated from the official site by duckroll:
July 30th - Final Fantasy XII Premium Stage Vol.1

Featuring Nobou Uematsu and other special guests, it will feature footage from the game as well as a talk session with Uematsu. Also, there will be release of a big news....

July 31st - Final Fantasy XII Premium Stage Vol.2

Featuring Hitoshi Sakimoto and other special guests, the composer that is in-charge of the entire soundtrack will have a special live talk show! Brand new information will also be released. Also among the special guests will be the voice actors and actresses of the main cast and motion actors.

wtf? Why are they talking to Uematsu about FFXII? I thought it was said years ago that he'd only be doing the main song... or something? Hopefully he has more involvement in the soundtrack. I love Sakimoto's work, but it just doesn't have the creative charm that Uematsu's does. Personally, the songs I've heard for FFXII thus far sound pretty generic... but I'm sure the overall OST will be typical FF quality goodness.

How many hours left?

The 3rd playable Nomura game gotta be Crisis Core...

Roughly 24 hours until the first day of the event, I believe.

I think the 3rd playable could be Crisis Core, would be interesting to see the kind of visuals Square presents on the things...

What type of production values it has is what i'm looking forward to.

And its good that they're finally slowly letting Uematsu go. They did the same with Amano and the series has been better for it.

Talkin' to the wrong man, I love Amano ;)

I hope Crisis Core has good production values. But I hope much of it goes toward reducing load times. And I hope it's a genuinely good title with some effort into it, not some cheap cash-in. I mean, I know the FFVII spin-offs are all cheap cash-ins... but I just hope it has a little more substance.

So, what time does this puppy start on Friday? (Japan -> US time)

That is, should we bother staying up late tonight :D

We should have some stuff by tomorrow morning but since itÂ’s a public event we might have to wait for the Japanese guys to upload the trailers/gamplay vids.

I would love to see an Einhander port/remake for PSP

Do not instill false hope, we have been denied a sequel or remake for so long and to have something so perfectly made for the PSP would make too much sense for Square.

ah man, way to open old wounds... I lent my copy of einhander out many years ago and never got it back >_<

I would kill for a port/sequel.

One thing I do not understand is the clamoring for a remake of Final Fantasy VII. I didn't understand it with Resident Evil, I didn't understand it with Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and I don't understand it now.

Why would I want Square to devote resources to a game I can play anytime right now? Just for updated eye candy? How about some new eye candy with a completely new story to go along with it?

Meh. Remakes.

Hopefully they just ignore all of you and make FFXIII and XIV.

Yeah, I'm on the 'logical' side of the seesaw with you, but I get the feeling that sitting on the other side is a 500 pound bull.

I love the contrast between the PotC world as opposed to everything else. Donald and Goofy look so out of place, not to mention tiny.
