Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

So I went to another target today to return a camera for my sister and what do I see, more PS3s. God why must you punish me, I can't buy one right now quit tempting me.

thats the target right down the street from me, right?

I was away for a week, and the search I did was too broad, but I have a question: did the XMB color scheme change for the winter? Now it's silver and black instead of red and black.

It changes monthly, just like the PSP. Each month has its own dedicated colour theme (ie. Red for December, White for January).

Hopefully we'll have the ability to change this soon, because some of those themes on the PSP are gross - the green one in particular.

Really? But we're still in December... maybe it changes on another day instead of the first on each month.

It changes based on the time as well. Noon = intense color, night = black.

Looks like Konami canned Coded Arms. dunno for other regions but at least in Japan.
Not officially confirmed, but this is from "usual blog" that tell us about jpn mags.

I don't care that title though. :D

Thank god another U3-game is gone... or is it?

So, how does this look for an HDD for my new paperweight?

Will that do? Know any better deals? *nervous anxiety*

Where do you live?

Edit: Oh no I don't think so I'm in Memphis

LOL...I was making the point that you didnt tell anyone where you lived....no use saying something is available if you dont inform them where.

Hey folks, if I already have an ID with the Playstation Underground and GAP, do I need to create a new Playstation Account on my PS3, or can I use my existing log-in details?

Hey I had my PS3 set a day early and it turned yellow :o.
I was playing around with mine earlier in the week, changing the month and time causes the background to change in real-time. Nothing more than a neat little touch, but it's fun to mess around with for a minute or two.

Has there been any news on when BC issues will be fixed?

How do PSone games look btw? I've only heard impression on PS2 software.

no problems with ps1 iq. for whatever reason.

i hadn't seen that coded arms trailer, but it does look pretty cool. i hope it comes out.

Networking questions.

I realize that in general, wired connections are better for gaming than wireless.

When I set up my PS3 to work with the same wireless network that my Wii, DS, and PSP connect to, I get:
UPnP Available
NAT Type 2

However, when I go for wired:
UPnP Not Available
NAT Type 3

Should I be concerned about the lack of UPnP or the differing NAT types? Which one is better.

Additionally, if I've set up both a wired and wireless network in the XMB, does the PS3 try the wired connection first? Or does it rely on the last one set up?

Someone knows this surely.

Not really versed on it, but if it follows typical PSP XMB functionality and you have more than one connection profile, it should prompt you once, with some sort of "default profile" checkmark somewhere on it.

I didn't get a prompt, but it does seem to be using my Wired connection now, which was the 2nd of the 2 that I set up. That's good enough for me.

Anyone know about the rest of my questions?

What is the cross color reduction filter? How come it makes the letters on the screen look softer? I tried that by playing FFXII and the letters in the battle menu seem more like when I'm playing it on my PS2.

Visiting the fiance and her family her in Osaka, and the PS3 seems to be readily in stock, unfortunately there are more 20GB versions then 60GB. I've debated on picking it up, however, the wife isn't liking the 60GB price. Stopping to look at it though, the only true difference is the lack of wireless, as the hard drive is upgradeable, and you can use USB based card readers. Thusly, I have debated on just getting the 20GB. My question is, is the 60GB SKU worth it for the wireless? It would be cheaper to by the 20gb and buy a new hard drive then get the 60 GB it seems. Any one have some advice on this? Some thoughts would help. Of course if I could find the lost planet xbox pack I would pick that up first, but while there is a buttload of blue dragon packs, all the lost planet ones seemed to have sold out. Anyways, thoughts on by the 20 vs 60?

Cross color is an artifact produced by the imperfect decoding of composite video. High frequency luma components are incorrectly decoded as chroma signals, causing colorization where there should be none. This colorization can be detected in many types of "busy" scenes including tiled rooftops, herringbone patterned clothing, leafy scenery, etc. The most common and visible cross color artifacts are flickering that occurs at 15 Hz rate, flashing colors or rainbow patterns. The artifact can be eliminated in still images by using temporal averaging of the chroma signals, the same methodology that is used in a 3-D comb filter.

I think I can answer the UPnP question, at least in the hypothetical.

UPnP could be used for port forwarding for those games that need it. I would say if the PS3 is reporting on the availability, it is preferable to have it than to not have it.

Well, if you don't think you'll ever want to use remoteplay, and if you don't mind using a USB cable for any sort of PSP connectivity, then the 20GB is probably fine. There's some question as to how ready the system might be for a wifi dongle in the future, given that the 60GB system is also capable of being an access point. If that doesn't make you sweat, the 20G with a hard drive upgrade sounds fine - I'd probably suggest the upgrade asap though, 20G will feel quite thin in the coming months.

Does anyone else have this problem where they randomly get disconnected from downloads. It takes me like 3 trys to download a demo because of these errors. Plus it restarts at 0%, it wont resume from where I got the error.

My initial firmware update died 2 or 3 times, but was able to resume from where it left off.

The firmware update worked fine for me. I only get the download error from the playstation store.

i hope ill have mine the day after tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not to worried about remoteplay, and my psp is collecting dust at the moment, and I can always just use the USB cable, so I think I'll get a 20 gig, and spend the extra money saved buying a 120 or 160 gb hard drive to upgrade.

I've been saying to myself, the day I could walk into a store and buy a 60GB PS3 would be the day I did so. Today was that day.

Now I just have to figure out what the hell to do with it. RR7 was great on my dad's TV (actually lining all the cars up on the grid together is 6 installments late, but worth the wait), but I only have a monitor, and it has a captive VGA cable.

Now that I am getting a PS3 this week, I need an explanation/update to the current state of the scaling issue.

I have a native 720p TV that can accept input up to 1080i. If I want to have Blu-Ray movies running at my maximum capable resolution (1080i, as PS3 does not currently do BR in 720p) and be able to switch over to play some Resistance in 720p (as Resistance does not scale to 1080i???), then what do I have my settings as? Do I have to change my display settings each time I want to switch between a 720p game and a Blu-Ray movie?

Thanks for clearing this up...

Naw... you just check off the boxes in display settings that your TV supports... In your case, 480, 720, 1080i... Resistance, when played, will automatically play at 720p... pop in a movie afterwards, it'll play in 1080i... It'll automatically go to the highest res that your tv and the media supports...

Thank god... the current lack of 720p for BR movies will be an inconvenience rather than a huge pain in the ass....

That's still no excuse. For guys like me with 720p projectors, I want 720p Blu-ray support. I don't want my projector to downscale to 720p as it doesn't do a good job of scaling. There just is no logical reason behind this BS. 720p for Blu-ray was working fine until the numbnuts disabled it a day after the system was out.

Message to Sony: I DO NOT WANT TO WATCH BLU-RAY ON MY 720P PROJECTOR IN 1080i!!!!!!RECTIFY THIS ASAP!!!

Just had my PS3 , i have a few questions/issues

-I have a very weird ghosting using HDMI in every resolution...when i have something on the screen then a black screen , i still see some little things here and there from the thing before the black screen..... i tried composite cable and there is no such thing....my dvd @ hdmi doesnt make such a thing so i guess its ps3 . I also saw someone else having this , and u guys?

(its really not important since its only during black/loading screen)

-Just to be sure , there is 3 fan speed right? a one that really make no noise (at the start) , one that make a little noise but overall not that much (during a game for exemple ) and one that make much more noise (but to have the fan running at this speed i have to put a Tshirt on the Ps3 :D anyway just tried)

-Whats the full size of the Hard drive with everything that's necessary to the PS3? i think i had 49g on 55available , is that right?

-Still no way to change the wallpaper?

-No more Free BR movie right now bundled with the system right?

sorry for bothering you guys
