Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

£59.99 a game is stupid. 360 games are £49.99 in places like Game and only £39.99 in supermarkets.

What makes it even worse is I can buy a game like Motorstorm for my PS3 right now for £27.05.

If this all happens, Sony Europe are retards.

Registration seems to be over (jan 10th, 2007), but I thought it was worth posting. Seems to be a 1st/3rd party & retailer conference in march.

Oh and I watched Ricky Bobby Blu Ray today. I know this isn't supposed to be the highlight of Blu Ray or anything but it didn't do much to feel this was better than DVD. It looked rather grainy and I had serious screen tearing every so often.

The Talladega Nights BD-ROM is generally considered to be pretty shitty in quality.

AVSForum lists the top tier discs as Crank, Corpse Bride, Ice Age 2, Black Hawk Down, and Kingdom of Heaven.
 
Is it just the Rogue Galaxy demo or is it the BC issues? I haven't played much PS2 BC stuff yet but the strobing and jaggies in RG are insane. Did Level 5 just screw up or can I expect a BC quality update in the future?
 
my Taledega Nights is still in it's shrink wrap and stuff inside my PS3 box. I refuse to infect my PS3 with such an aweful movie.

Why now Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2? it's beyound me

NM I found my answer in a FAQ:

"If you have the PS3 setup in HD mode then the BC games end up getting stretched and looking awful, so if you want to play them properly you have to go into the XMB settings and change the PS3's display mode to 480i or 480p."

Problem solved for the time being. I'm sure a firmware update may solve this for HD.

Either way it looks MUCH better now in 480p. 1080p was a mess.

There are 11 decal packs that cover a number Namco games (Katamari Damacy, Taiko No Tatsujin, .hack, Ace Combat) as well as some anime series (I saw at least one Eureka Sevens decal). There's also now 11 UFRA Special Events.

It just got bumped in the "New Content" list a day or two ago, so some of these are new. I used the instructions here to make the account.

(Also, Mainichi Issyo has a little wacky Brain Training-esqe game in it with Internet Ranking. Not too hard to pick up, even if you don't understand Japanese.)

Nice find, I'd been meaning to see if that DLC worked on the US version. Oddly, the Hong Kong store only has 9 decal packs, even though they've got all 11 UFRA Special Events. Hrm.

Also, I'm really hoping for a Mr. Driller decal pack.

I dunno, its private retailers only I believe so I dont think it will be like gamersday. I'm better sony will display their 2007 titles for consumers sometime in feb or march, who knows with them though. Everything is a secret.

Maybe we will get more than a europe release date this tuesday.
 
It's monday in Europe now. Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the rumored announcement date for the European/Russian/African & Australian release date of the PS3. Someone responsible should make a launch thread in time for the actual launch. :)

I think this thread was orginally the US/JP/EU thread but the title changed when it got delayed. A mod will probably just change the title back.

Anyways, I hope we get a list of launch titles or atleast a number for the europe launch. Would give us an idea when to expect the games to hit over in the NA/JP market.

I remember last year's Destination PlayStation. We didn't hear shit about what was discussed in there. =(
 
I was just wondering if Sony released a headset for the system. I know I can get any ol' blue tooth headset, but I wasn't sure if sony released one just for the PS3.

Also..anyone who has Untold Legends..does anyone know where I can see how much more experience before I go up a level?
 
there is simply no way that games in the UK will be £59.99. I even doubt Sony said so.

Xbox 360 games are £49.99 and even that isn't sticking much - I expect next gen games to settle on the £39.99 that the PS2 had at launch. Especially as PS2 and Xbox game prices dropped so much in the last 18 months that £39 was not the standard price and therefore £49 isn't sustainable on the 360/PS3 (although its likely to be RRP, it'll be undercut regularly by stores)


It'd be nice to have a separate EU launch thread though, as this one has gotten a little raggedy, and who'll know to come to page 123 or whatever for the EU launch news?
 
Is it me or is PSN a very unreliable network? I keep dropping the connection, whether it's at the Playstation Store or playing Resistance. Somedays, it works perfect, other days it's a pain to login and when you do login, the odds of getting dropped seem high.]

It can't be my connection since Xbox Live is rock solid no matter what.

Hmm I don't know I had a problem the first day of my wireless dropping and just went in disabled it and then reenabled it and haven't had any problems since, I don't know what to tell you except maybe go back into the settings and make sure everything is right

Once again, it seems like it'll keep doing that during the odd day. It works for the vast majority of the time, which leads me to believe it's a server issue.

I didn't know where to post this but I though this would be the best place. Last night I was at Circuit City looking for a head set to use and noticed that they had the official component cables. I looked at them and they are only $19.99 which I though was pretty resonable but then noticed they still had some ps2 ones in stock for $29.99. :lol Seriously why?
 
I'm finally picking up a PS3 next week and i was wondering if i should get Resistance or wait for Motorstorm? I'm a big FPS fan but after playing FPSs like Halo and Half-Life I need something that will wow me. I played a little Resistance and it seemed some what boring. I don't want it for it's online and i doubt i'll play it online since i'm really sucked into Gears right now. Is the single player alone good enough to buy Resistance? I read in the official thread that it gets better.

Yes if you like FPSs buy Resistance as it is not only the best game out on the system right now it is the best console FPS since Halo 2.

Edit:About it getting better, yeah the First 2 parts can be kind of slow they are mainly for story telling purposes to try and set up what is going on, I personally didn't really have a problem with them but I know a lot of people though of that part as generic and sort of boring, once you get about half way through the conversion facility though the game picks up considerably.

Also the online is very good so if you did ever want to take a break from Gears it would be there.
 
Get Resistance. It really picks up as the game progresses, and combined with the multiple difficulty levels, the huge battles, the cunning AI and the different weapons you get the second time around, its single player is worth multiple playthroughs -- this coming from someone who rarely finishes games the first time around.

Motorstorm's an amusing distraction, but unless they make some major additions to the US version in the form of additional modes or revamped pacing, or unless you actually do care about online there (you mentioned it wasn't a factor for Resistance), it's really tough to play for extended periods, especially since it all starts to feel the same after a while. Worth playing? Sure. But worth sitting on your PS3 until later when faced with having Resistance now? No.

Play with us when you buy Resistence a few times. Find the 'Official Resistence' thread when you are ready.

NBA 2k7 is good, but has slowdown issues occasionally. AFAIK it has no compatibility issues with resolution - it renders properly from 480p to 1080p, but it defaults to 720p on my 1080p set.

Also with the recent 360 patch, the 360 version is now the more up to date version of the game (least gameplay wise - they fixed quite a few things).

I've always been a fan of the Tony Hawk games. I'm one of the few who really liked the Underground games and American Wasteland. And I enjoyed playing Project 8.

However, I'm not sure I'd recommend to anyone who isn't already a fan of the Tony Hawk games. It felt a bit unfinished..... So, if you don't have it already, then its probably worth holding off until the next one comes out in the fall (and you can get online play).

Check best buy I got Call of Duty 3 for like 50 bucks.

What steps do you have to take to make playable soundtracks in your games? Is it an option that has to be presented through the game? Is it something that you do via the PS3 then access it within game?

:btw the organization of said menu's that are like the PSP are horrible :( - oh well I like the look, but trying to get it the way you want it is kinna though when it comes to music on the PS3.

hey guys, I'm considering getting a PS3 soon but I have a few questions...


PSone games...

- upscaled to 480p?
- if yes, are there any other enhancements?

PS2 games...

- I heard this was fixed, does this mean 480i games are scaled to 480p? And I'm guessing 480p games aren't a problem at all...?

PSP connectivity...

- I'm assuming I'll need wi-fi for this and I'm planning to get the core, so I'd like to know what ps3-psp connectivity benefits there are that I might miss. I don't have a PSP yet but I'll be getting one eventually.


Thanks in advance for any help. My new TV is dead now (sort of... it has a huge vertical line of stuck pixels....sigh) and I decided to not upgrade until this summer, leaving my pc monitor as the only option for console gaming. which means either using a gamebridge/vga adapter/whatever to connect a console to the monitor or let the PS3 do it for me - I'm buying one anyway, so why not do it now especially since none of those adapters work well apparently.
 
i have question regarding PS3


i was in rush and hype. and i figured i wouldnt be able to get my hands on PS3 US system around the time it came out.

and i was able to find the japanese one and i bought it [ this is like months ago ]

i dont care about the warrenty [ i know some people at sony they can fix it for me free where i live ]

also i dont care about PS2 games as i have modded PS2 for all region games.

and as far as i know, Blue Ray movies for japan and US are the same region.

however. i am worried about one thing. the games. i really fear that one day. the games will be region lock in the future for PS3 [ and i honestly hope not because i dont understand japanese languages and stores here dont carry japanese games even because simply they dont sell. its all US games ]

so should i be worried about the region free thing or i should ease my mind like the PSP is ?

like you want to download the demos and then load them to the PS3 and play them ? so you can safe the life of your PS3 not being on all the time while downloading?

My router/cable-modem is upstairs and I have the 20GB (downstairs), so WiFi isnt possible. :/
