My router/cable-modem is upstairs and I have the 20GB (downstairs), so WiFi isnt possible. :/

You can pick up a wireless bridge for your PS3 (the D-Link model is around $50 on Outpost.com) and connect to your wireless network with ease.

I got the PS3 and I'm watching my first blu ray movie..It will freeze for a few seconds when it goes from one chapter to the next. It doesn't do it everytime, but I'm not sure if It's the disc, the movie or my ps3 gone bad?

How do you zoom in with the internet browser?

Sounds wrong. Try taking out the disc and wiping it off a bit and stick it back in. Maybe reset the system as well.

I'd say buy another movie and if it still does it, either return or call Sony.

I think that's a known issue with the 1.50 firmware. Have you upgraded to 1.51?

If I buy a 20 gig version of the PS3 which has no wifi, can the PSP still communicate with the PS3?
if you mean u want to check the ps3 screen etc on ur psp, then no [ as far as i know ]

i never watched any movie on my PS3. i really dont know if its something i should be worried about [ i cant buy blue ray movies. they dont have any here yet ] [ i dont live in japan/US]

yeah, actually I did upgrade.

It's a known issue, dont think it's your hardware, in the avs forums there are quite a number of people having issues with blueray playback.

Fixes includes
- not connected on the sony network.
- used a wired controller instead of the wireless one
- turn off / reset the console and play a blueray movie when the machine has booted "fresh".

I've never had a problem with blu-ray playback on my PS3. It's weird to hear other people having some issues.

hey guys, I'm considering getting a PS3 soon but I have a few questions...

PSone games...

- upscaled to 480p?
- if yes, are there any other enhancements?

PS2 games...

- I heard this was fixed, does this mean 480i games are scaled to 480p? And I'm guessing 480p games aren't a problem at all...?

PSP connectivity...

- I'm assuming I'll need wi-fi for this and I'm planning to get the core, so I'd like to know what ps3-psp connectivity benefits there are that I might miss. I don't have a PSP yet but I'll be getting one eventually.

Thanks in advance for any help. My new TV is dead now (sort of... it has a huge vertical line of stuck pixels....sigh) and I decided to not upgrade until this summer, leaving my pc monitor as the only option for console gaming. which means either using a gamebridge/vga adapter/whatever to connect a console to the monitor or let the PS3 do it for me - I'm buying one anyway, so why not do it now especially since none of those adapters work well apparently.

To answer the BC questions, yes both PS2 and PS1 games are upscaled to 480p. 1.5 fixed the issue with 480i games, so everything's peachy now. Fast loading is standard thanks to the quicker read speed of the PS3, no texture smoothing for PS1 titles though.

Awesome, thanks, I just wanted to make sure. :D I'm always paranoid...

I'm pretty much set now on buying one soon along with a new/better monitor, samsung has some new models coming out this month. I'm leaning to the 60gb pack too, but I can't decide which looks better. That's the deciding factor right now. :lol

edit: oh and is it me or are ps3 systems very easy to find...? I kind of thought GAF was exaggerating. Circuit city has them in stock, and for a while I think. Gamestop has the 20GB and 60GB up for sale right now, I first checked last night I think, and they're still available. Still not everywhere, but I'm not worried about finding one in 2-3 weeks.

One last question... is there a way to use a ps2 controller with a ps3 for BC games? like with some adaptor or something.

It'd be nice to have that option for rumble. I don't think I'll miss it much - I just switched to a wavebird for my gcn and honestly I didn't care for the change, but just to have the option and be able to do comparisons would be great. Most BC games I'll be playing are RPGs anyway. The other ones don't particularly have excellent implementations of rumble imo - even metal gear. I hate it when there's a great cutscene going on and the controller just goes berserk when there's an explosion or whatever. This is especially true of devil may cry 3 - I really hated rumble during the cutscenes from what I played. I'll stop ranting now and end the post here. :p

Yes you can, you just have to hit the analog button on the DS2 instead of the PS button.

However since Guitar Hero's guitar has no analog button it doesn't work; and no you can't hot swap out the guitar with a controller.

Cool, thanks for answering. :)

Nyko's releasing a PS2 adapter that'll let you use guitars, racing wheels, whatever. However if you just want to use the DS2 then you can use just any USB adapter.

Just came back from EB Games to see if they had the GOW2 demo disc in yet (no luck, they said sometime next week). Anyways, the guy there printed me off a list of games. Probably incorrect dates, but I thought it was worth posting.

Sorry about the left side of the page, I might try scanning it again to see if I can enhance the part where the paper didnt print so well.

So, how many of you have it vertical?
horizontal for me. :)

Had it horizontal for a while, but then switched it to vertical with the log facing the room.

I like the vertical look better, but the cables sticking out the left side make it look less awesome. At first I didn't like that at all and that's why I had it horizontal. I don't mind the cables as much now so vertical it is.

BTW: getting games in/out when the PS3 is vertical was very tricky at first - okay with it now.

Have they announced when this is gonna be out?

F1 on PS3 is a completely new engine though right?

I guess we will find out one day :P

i have question. say after like 20 mins or 40 mins [ whatever ], the PS3 fan start running [ you can hear it speeding up ] but does it stay running all the time till u turn it off? because i dont see my ps3 fan turned off when i play.

when should i know that the PS3 is hot or about to overheat before i get the red light of death -_-

I seem to be only getting a maximum of 480p via HDMI. I've tried this with 2 separate HDMI cables and on 2 separate tv's. Whether its Manual or Automatic, the tv's can't get a signal any higher than 480p.

Do you think its a cable problem (just being unlucky with the ones I have bought) or could it be the ps3?

I can get 1080i fine via Component...

That is really...odd. Would be strange if your TV only accepted 480P input over HDMI.

I honestly don't know the answer to your question, though. Hopefully someone does.

If I had to guess, I would say it has to be a problem with either your TVs HDMI input or PS3 HDMI output. Do you have any other sources you can try on your TV via HDMI to see if it can go higher than 480P?

Nope no other sources with HDMI at the moment. The thing is, I've tried it on 2 entirely separate tv's now, with 2 different HDMI cables. I've found an online store that repairs PS3's, since I'm outside of America, and I emailed them about the problem, and they also said it was very strange, and to try out a third HDMI cable.

Surely if it was a problem with the HDMI port on the ps3, the picture wouldn't display in any of the resolutions?

Wow. Those new release dates are interesting. Looks like there's going to be little to no PS3 software drought, ESPECIALLY if you don't already own a 360. Very nice. I hope there's some surprise releases around the holidays.

so yeah. i'm joining the club this friday.

who'd have thought i was serious about that whole '3 console future' and multiplatform thing. there were enough blu-ray exclusive films out that i wanted to make good on EB's offer of $100 off when you trade in a ps2, second controller and a memory card before it runs out next week.

yeah, i'm not getting any games with it because i haven't cleared my plate yet, but i'm glad that i'll have it in good time for motorstorm, which any one surprised by my ps3 purchase would do well to check my posts in any motorstorm thread.

frankly, i know that there's a good chance that the ps3 version of burnout 5 will be the best (after the ps2 version of burnout revenge was better than the xbox one) as criterion have said the ps3 is the lead platform, and while there aren't that many exclusives i'm excited about right now, there's enough multiplatform games that i want to make sure i'm covered for whichever is the best version.

plus, i'm a multiplatform guy. i write horror news for a website.

between demos, blu-ray and other stuff i'll have plenty to make the purchase feel worthy now (given that next month when motorstorm comes out it'd have cost me more to get).

I got my US PS3 today, it's run everything I've thrown at it besides PS2 games. When I try to load one it makes a few beeps and then shuts down. I've tried a few PS2 games, all with the same result. Maybe my EE+GS is ****ed, I dunno, I'm not a tech wizard.
I guess I'm going to have to ship it all the way back to Canada for a replacement :(

Someone in a PC shop told me today that I could plug in a USB HDD into the PS3 and use it as a full hard drive (for downloadable demos, games, etc). Is that right, or was he talking rubbish? He comes out with some Grade-A bullshit about console games and consoles so I'm expecting this to the case here as well. But if it's not, then I'm very surprised. I could understand it reading USB HDDs for music and movies, but what about DRM'd downloads like games?

That does suck :(

My PS3 runs PS2 games fine. Hopefully you get things sorted out quickly.

I just got a PS3

yayyyyyyyyyyy

Anyway, I'm using an HD LCD monitor with a res of 1440x900, and I have it set to 720p. However, I've noticed that in the Store, it seems to be cutting off some of the image. Is there any way to adjust the monitor settings on the PS3 itself?

congrats bud, you picking up rr7? i remember around the time of the 360 launch i would catch you playing rr6 online. =]

I think you're confusing me for someone else, unless you're talking to someone else. Never played RR6, but I may pick up RR7.

Anyway, of course, my friend's list is lonely so... come on guys hook me up.

I bought the REMOTE

easy to install but ...how to turn it off?

Its like even pushing the PS button and say "controller off" , it doesnt...at all , if i press anything it works

No , holding down PS will make me choose between turning the controller (here the remote) or the system off
