Stand up, attacks from the guard, submission after submission attempt, continuous transitions.....great fight!

Yeah, Zuffa (company that owns UFC) bought out WEC a few years ago. They robbed some talent (Rampage, etc.) and turned it into their light weight league. basically

Actually, the UFC got Rampage from buying out the WFA, not the WEC. Hard to keep track of all the acronyms, I know. Just nitpicking. ;P

edit: damn, beaten.

Fighting against Torres has to be frustrating as hell.

Solid stand-up game. Great ground game. Seemingly great submission skills. TAUNTS!

I'd hate to fight him, but fuck is he great to watch.
Yup. Since his ground game is top notch, he can stand up and strike without fear of being taking down because he'll sub or sweep them.

Yeah, I was confused.. the wfa had bas and Lindland at the time right? Oh well, here comes the main event.

MMA-GAF, we will see what RubxQub, who became a MMA fan yesterday through Kimbo thinks of the WEC and MMA in general after tonight.
Loving what I've seen so far in tonight's fights.

I just wish they would consolidate all these different leagues into a couple if they could. Been doing a bit of reading on MMA since yesterday and there's like 50 leagues going on for this sport.

It's got to be impossible to keep up!

Legit question.

The 135lbs class isn't as developed as the higher weight classes in MMA. His record is padded, but not to the extent that, say, Sean Sherk's is.

I don't think the best at 135 have really faced off against each other, but you have to put Torres at the top of the heap based on consistency.

Maeda might be the most impressive win so far, as he was 23-4-1 coming into the fight against Torres.

Works for me. He looked great, can't say he didn't earn an awesome victory, and showed skills in every area.

I'd love to see more WEC events, see these lighter dudes get fleshed out more. Glad to see 155 and under in general growing.

Is it just me or does he have one of the craziest "butt" chins I have ever seen? After the ear from last night this shit is getting out of control, but then again I got used to weird ass looking dudes from my D1 wrestling career in HS. Anyone ever create a gif of that ear from last night? I haven't been back to that thread to check.

hopefully the butt chin won't explode if Jens punches it.

i think part of the reason the fight was stopped was because of that jab torres gave maeda and then maeda grabbed his face. at that point the ref really started to look at maeda closely. maybe he broke his orbital bone or something. i take back what i said earlier this might of been a good stop.

It looks like he ran into the corner of a brick wall at full force. it's not just you; it really is one of the craziest butt chins ever.

So this Faber guy is good I take it?

You wrestled D1? Nice. Where? (not that I know much about US college wrestling :lol)

Shit, I hope Pulver is able to make this competitive. I have a nagging feeling that Faber might blow him away.

Jens is a legend and a veteran of the sport, both in the UFC and in Pride.

Faber's been the 145 champ for a while, and has been seriously dominant and impressive in just about all his defenses.

So, yeah, this is a really exciting fight on paper.

He's no kimblol, but he is rawesome. Lil Evil, the guy he is fighting is an early UFC legend, type.
I'd love to watch the chin vs. the beard :lol

Good to know this fight should be decent.

North-east Ohio. I didn't get to wrestle my senior year though due to breaking my foot in a summer freestyle league. Which sucks too because that would have been my best chance at making it out of districts and going to states for the first time. I gave it up after that since I set on going to OSU for college and was no where near good enough to wrestle D1 at the college level.

Wow Urijah's looking SLICK.

Jens is looking a little tentative and downright slow. That left can still change anything at any moment but I hope Jens snaps into it quick.

Interesting.

I assumed there'd be a lot more ground game going on. Is it a WEC thing that the fighters stand up and strike more or something?

Tonight seems pretty striking heavy compared to last night.

Jens needs to get the right jab out there more. He's beating, Cali with it. He's a better pure striker but Urijah is really holding his own overall standing.. tha'ts bad. He needs to move and work that right jab to setup the left cross

Hey Jens has 1 blue eye and 1 dark eye, now he's gonna have 1 blue ball and 1 dark ball.

Jens still has the MMA instinct. Great scramble to his feet and bottom control.

One can never predict where the fight will go. Just a fact of MMA. Sometimes you'll get a whole event that will barely touch the ground, and sometimes you'll get a ton of groundwork and submissions. You just never know.
