Official Xbot turn in your jacket thread.....

Hmm.. going to be a very tough sell at launch. But if i dont get one at launch ill probly just wait for the PS3 launch, at which time i would assume MS would make a big pricecut, but then again who knows.

Look people. It's still early. The urge to buy it will grow slowly within you as more and more media is thrown out every coming week in gaming websites. Then you'll start to realize that all this HDD / wireless BS is not so bad afterall. You just wait.

LOL! Xbucks is a hard sell to some of us who have sworn never to pay more than $300 for a game console. PS3, Xbucks, Revo...it don't matter. Gaming can get expensive without me, I guess. :? PEACE.

Keep in mind that they are competing with blockbuster PS2 games, Eye catching PC titles, as well as previews of PS3 titles in the coming months. I can safely say if MS wants to price thier shit at rip-off levels its gonna be easy to just say no to all of it :P

Not quite as dumbshit as comparing 3.5' hdd prices to 2.5' 5400 rpm hdd prices, as some people STILL seem to be doing. why don't you pricewatch those, chumly (say, a seagate or a samsung), and tell us how much it comes out to. :) $66-$70 should be just about right, if you don't wanna do the work. And before you decry the $30 or so disparity between the OEM price and the retail MSRP of the HD addon, let's not forget the idea is to A)make money on peripherals and B)more than likely cover the cost of the Nvidia license for backwards-compatibility.

It is certainly not my intention to do any damage control--I think the 2 sku thing is re-fucking-tarded. But some of you people, seriously, are starting to irk me with the spoiled-brat-bitching It's spoiled brat-bitching when people are PISSED that you have to spend 400$ for a 360 with a Hard-drive? Bullshit on that. I want a harddrive at 299.00, just like the XBOX.

here is a 60GB SATA notebook harddrive for slightly more than the 360 one.

these are not being sold at a loss. and im quite sure MS can get a great deal straight from the manufacturers since they will be buying in bulk..

yeah. they are oem.. but they are also quite a bit larger than the 360 harddrive. MS is raping us charging $99 for 20GB.

btw. im curious. does anyone know the speed of the 360 harddrive?

You can't buy those computer notebooke hdds and have them work on X360?\

60 GB for nearly the same price MS Is charging for 20 GB....

Seriously, I am the biggest Xbox 1 whore, and if Xbox was a dude I would probably service him until he nutted man yogurt on my udders, but the combination of pricing and segmented hardware is like Microsoft pooping in my mouth.

And this is different from MS pooping in the mouthes of consumers over the past 25 years how? :lol

I'm sure it would have all been one SKU if <TeamXbox> J.Allrad didn't have to come up with magical money for his EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEME injuries. </TeamXbox>

Today is a good day. ^_^

I must say, the one oft-repeated comment I most disagree with is that the $299 set is Xbox 1.5. Given lack of hard drive, it's more like Xbox Gaiden.

Wireless adapter - $99 (ME = WTF X 10000000000000000000000!!!)
That's not so bad. I bought a wifi device earlier this year that was 50% more than that. It was called a "DS".

Redbeard said:
Yeah, I'm sure they're just throwing it in for free.
Sure, nothing is free, but few things are $100 accessories.

FirstInHell said:
Wasn't this the same board that pointed out how MS needed to do something because they were losing money on every Xbox sold?

How did you people expect to get all of that stuff for $299?
Well, we didn't say MS would do a good job at not losing money. :P
(Console business)

I had previously predicted that whenever MS decided to flip the "profit" switch on their console business, their main advantages would go away. However, when they seemed to be following the GameCube plan of hardware partners, I thought that was a decent move and didn't see a technically competent system with a wireless controller and hard drive that didn't suck their bones dry at $299 to be unfeasible.

Gregory said:
Uh, no. 90% out there don`t give a fuck about Live, HDTV and wireless.
That's probably true, and add hard drives to the list. But those are also things MS has talked about as being their Big Deals.

Sheesh! Whats the problem? Sell your xbox and a few games back. Hell EB Games takes dvds back now too...just trade shit in and u wont have to pay that much.

They have X800pro's for as cheap as 200$ The brand new X850 platinum is 399.00 the exact same price as the 360, and it doesn't come with a hard drive either.

Matter of fact, check out thier prices on 20gig harddrives as well. The 100$ 20-gig harddrive is fucking dumb as shit, and no self-respecting person will EVER say otherwise.

I'm just giving an example of how pc gaming isn't that cheap either -_-

m0dus said:
Sorry, but at a certain point, you're going to hit a brick wall as far as cost of materials, even with the bare minimum platters you use.

And, again, let's not forget--they intend to make a PROFIT on peripherals, and more than likely are using the cost of the HDD to absorb the cost of the Nvidia license (the same way, for example, the Xbox remote was priced to help absorb the cost of the DVD-video licensing). Chances are, the 40 GB HD will be around 129.00 .

you dont think newegg makes a profit?

Microsoft just ordered probably 2-3 million hard drives.....and you're comparing their per-unit cost with the retail price at some online store? :lol They are getting a pretty steep wholesale discount, and I think we all know that they're probably making a killing on them.

It was bad enough to see the skus split in two. $299 for just a graphics card upgrade, you get the system and a wired controller. You need to get the $399 system to have access to all the X360 functionality. Then I noticed the pricing for Xbox 360 accessories. For those of you who haven't seen them here is a list of some of the add on prices:

Xbox wired controller - $40
Xbox wireless controller - $50
20 gig HDD - $99
Wireless adapter - $99 (ME = WTF X 10000000000000000000000!!!)
Faceplates - $20

There may be more, but that is what popped out in front of me. Xbox 360 is assfucking consumers 360 different ways! So, here it is, MS has completely screwed up Xbox 360 from its initial unveiling and it just got worse today. Xbots, here is the day you can sign in and turn over your jacket!

Sorry Mr Bob...my jacket is sown into the skin of my BACK! Thanks to this...

Not an Xbot at all, but I was considering buying a 360 at launch for RR6, GR3, and Oblivion.
That was when I thought the system would come standard with a wireless controller, hdd, and some form of backwards compatibility.
Now I'm just going to use the money to upgrade my PC or wait for PS3.

M$ really had some momentum going until they made this move.

I agree, completely.
Sony ate it w/ PS2's launch and first year, but has made up for it significantly (as many predicted). I don't doubt they'll do the same thing with PS3.
Now that even Xbots are going batshit over this whole mess, now (or TGS) would be the perfect time for Sony to announce 'their' premium package for $350. Sure, they'll take some big losses, but, like PS1 and PS2, they'll make it up.

If MS is the sprinter, Sony is the cross-country, endurance runner.

Crazy times ahead.

Try this out... don't buy the X360, but buy the wireless adapter, and start playing games on just the adapter. Oh wait.

I personally think all 3 console manufacturers are fucking up.

MSFT is trying to make a killing on the hardware, but will more than likely scare away customers.

Sony is Promising the world in PS3 and more than likely taking a bigger hit financially than they should considering their overall profit margin debt balancing.

Nintendo seems to me personally to be losing touch with what mainstream consumers want, such as realistic type games and non-cartoonish style.

I can see me buying a 360 long enough to play through Halo 3 when it releases and reselling it, and not much more this gen.

Not sure how this is a negative...but I wouldn't worry too much about Sony making money off of PLAYSTATION 3.

"Here is a pic of the upcoming PS3 version"

yup - exactly the same as the X360 version huh?

So if the games are the same, then we're down to the price of the unit.
Which sony has yet to announce.

Sony's to win, Sony's to lose.

you know, I wasnt gonna get a Xbox360 first, I was gonna get a PS3 as my first nex gen system then wait till a price drop on Xbox360

Then, i saw all the killer "Screens" of the games and saw the system and controller and heard about the 20 gig harddrive and all these other little features and thought..."fuck it, I just may have to buy one at Launch! /Cheer"

then......this news drops...and its like....Fuck xbox360.

hence....MS is truly dumb.

The standard xbox 360 should come with a HDD and an ethernet port. The rest ie wireless headset, wireless ethernet, media remote etc should be addons.

399 isn't unreasonable to ask for whats included in the premium bundle. What gets me is the accessory prices for the controllers and adapters. Way too high....game prices going up too hurt as well. Although rumors persist that first party 360 games will be 50 with only a handful of 3rd party games at 60. I'd like to see if this is true or not.

I dont care about accessories since i rarely buy them but

the whole having 2 different system choices

thats Fuckin STUPID.

DID THEY NOT LEARN ANYTHING FROM SEGA?!

MS! HELLO!

Well the next step is Sony's, if the PS3's selling point is remotely close to it's cost, it too could scare gamers away, maybe even moreso considering all the features they plan to include in it.

Seeing as how SCEA seems to be carrying most of the other deptartments within Sony, If they take too much of a hit on it and take a huge loss on each console, it will paint a pretty sickly picture of Sony's financial status.

"399 isn't unreasonable to ask for whats included in the premium bundle. What gets me is the accessory prices for the controllers and adapters. Way too high...."

it's just a ploy to get people to look at the packs and go for the $399.

they want to be seen pandering to the low incomers who don't care about online and DLC.

I suspect they are hoping that people wavering will go for the $399 version when they see the $99 for a hdd. For an extra $100, you can have that, and a remote and a wireless controller. That starts looking like great value when you look at $50 for a controller and $99 for a hdd alone.

I dunno - it's like the PSP packs. Looking at the individual addons that Sony put out, the value pack looks like great value. 2000 yen for the cover, 1500 for the little strap, 3000 yen for the memory stick. Same tactic, just a bit more extreme. Personally i'm not impressed by $50 a controller. Unless of course that wireless controller is the UBER CONTROLLER....

on the Sony front, what exactly did they announce yesterday?

MS! HELLO!

I think MS is treating the situation like Sony and the PSP in Japan.

Most of the systems will be the premium pack. But they offer a couple core bundles to say you can get the system at a lower price. After awhile the core bundle gets phased out for the premium bundle like what has happened with PSP in Japan.

This is one reason why I think the PSP is doing better in NA than Japan. SCEA said screw it we have a premium product and are going with a premium price with value added goods. I think having two different skus at launch devalues your product. It also creates less headaches as you are trying to launch a new product. MS should have just went with the premium pack for everything and then break it down in the future. They'll sell them all with Xmas coming up anyway...

But if the HDD is not required for games, and MS going out of their way to let people know that and developers, why should a person go out of their way to get the HDD now? I think that's quite a few peoples problem with this whole new 2 SKU deal me included. Next to media streaming which is looking like a no go for video if I don't have a media center PC (and no i'm not getting a whole new OS just for that) and the HDD there isn't anything else making me look to the Xbox 360 that I can't get on the PS3. And at least on the PS3 I know I can get 3 generations of game comptability, built in WiFi and a BRD player. There's a big picture here to look at and with these new console prices you are seeing the fear of people being stuck with a system now.

You still don't know the price either, so, you can't accurately speculate.

indeed - but saying that, i can't see Sony straying far away from 39800.
but yeah, it's not set in stone yet.

No, I can speculate. I can also certainly, especially after all this, wait to see what else is going to be offered. Like most people will now.

I expect something similar from Sony honestly. This really pissed me off when I read it this morning, but I've gotten over it and soon my xbox, gc and ps2 will be heading to EB games to usher in next gen. WAIT! NO FUCKING COMPONENT CABLES IN THE CORE PACKAGE?! EAT MY ASS!

Anyone looking for all 3 systems??? haha

Granted, I'm an Xbot or whatever the term is, but, this is seemingly cheap to me. I'm a PC gamer as well, and a graphics card is easily the cost of the Xbox 360. I remember when Voodoos were the rage. I bought my first PC from Gateway when I was 19, 2500 cash. I worked at Ponderosa for in my senior year of HS (25 now) I'm married now, my wife doesn't mind the cost of this. I thought it was to be this price anyways.
